Inés de Castro is the Spanish mistress to Pedro, the Crown Prince of Portugal. With an internationally acclaimed creative team including Mark Jonathan and Johan Engels, renowned for his vivid, theatrical designs, this production promises a visual spectacular that draws inspiration from an eclectic range of sources including Dior’s ‘New Look’ and the exotic colours of tribal Africa. In a world where gods see fit to meddle in the lives of men, Orfeo, distraught by the death of his lover, resolves to defy their will and rescue her from Hades. But the gods have their rules; Euridice may be allowed to escape, but only if Orfeo can stop himself from looking at her until they are once again safe above ground. It seems a simple task, but will Euridice understand his sudden coldness? Focusing on dramatic effect over the vocal display so favoured by his contemporaries, Gluck’s music gives a unique glimpse forward into the Romantic era. Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS) at Edinburgh College invite dance enthusiasts to their end-of-year production. Featuring the choreographic work of dance teaching staff from PASS and Dance For All, student dancers will showcase contemporary and jazz styles. The Cross Currents show is one of the College’s highlights of the year. This is an exciting theatrical experience and a chance to see tomorrow’s performers today.

Dark and menacing, Peter Watson’s production gives this monumental story the space it deserves, providing a majestic backdrop for a cast and chorus of over 50. A gypsy woman is discovered in the castle of the Count di Luna, crouched over the cradle of his youngest son. When the boy falls ill, she is burned at the stake for witchcraft. Her daughter, crazed with grief, snatches the child intending to kill him, but in her madness, throws her own son onto the fire. Years later, she has brought the Count’s son up as her own and he and his elder brother, unaware of their relationship, are rivals for the beautiful Leonora. In 1943 Dolly West is at her family home in Donegal after fleeing from Italy at the outbreak of war. She runs the house for her mother Rima, sister Esther and husband Ned, and younger brother Justin, an officer in the Irish Free State army and a fervent nationalist.

Scotland’s international festival of performing arts for children and young people.

Questions over the neutrality of both Ireland and of the West household are raised when Rima invites three soldiers - Alec, an English officer; Marco and Jamie, two US troopers from the war zone just across the nearby Eire / UK border. Soon clashes of loyalty, jealousy, sexual identity and love creep in.

Disguise and revelation, love and jealousy combine in this tragic tale. A love story unfolds against the ghostly backdrop of a Rhineland forest haunted by the fearful presence of the “Wilis” - vengeful spirits of abandoned brides. The beautiful peasant girl, Giselle, falls for Albrecht who conceals his identity to win her. The discovery of her lover’s deception shatters Giselle’s innocence and causes her to die of a broken heart. Albrecht is thrown into the hands of the merciless Wilis, but Giselle cannot bear to watch him die and returns as a ghost to save him. Giselle is the most dramatic and beautiful of ballets and the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s superb dancers make it a must-see of 2015.

A chance for you hear about the Company and to see first-hand what life as a dancer is like as you watch the dancers daily class. A 30-minute talk about the company, the production and the touring life of a dance company is followed by the chance to watch the dancers take their daily ballet class on stage.
