Adam Bullock is a dedicated and accomplished music educator. With an illustrious career spanning over a decade at Carrithers Middle School, he serves as the Director of Bands, guiding and inspiring young musicians on their musical journeys. Mr. Bullock’s educational foundation is rooted in a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Morehead State University, which provided him with the knowledge and skills to excel in his role. His passion for teaching and music has made a significant impact on the students he's had the privilege to instruct. Under Adam's guidance, the band program at Carrithers Middle School consistently earns distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) State Performance Assessment. This achievement reflects his unwavering commitment to excellence and his ability to foster talent in the next generation of musicians. Mr. Bullock’s contributions extend beyond the classroom, as he is actively involved in professional associations such as the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA), and the National Band Directors Association (NBA). He is a performing member of the Louisville Winds Community Band where he plays the French Horn. These affiliations demonstrate his dedication to ongoing professional development and advocacy for music education at state and national levels. In recognition of his exceptional dedication and commitment to music education, Mr. Bullock has received numerous accolades, including being named the District 12 KMEA Middle School Teacher of the Year in both 2020 and 2023. This recognition underscores his outstanding contributions to the music education community and his ability to inspire students and colleagues alike. A highlight of Adam's career was his ensemble's performance at the 2023 KMEA Professional In-Service Conference. This event showcased the talent and hard work of his students and left a lasting impression on the attendees and further establishing his reputation as an exemplary music educator. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Adam serves as the Music Department Chair at Carrithers Middle School. His leadership ensures that the school's music program continues to thrive, offering students the opportunity to explore and excel in their musical pursuits.
Beth Lyles is a recently retired band director from Louisville, Kentucky. Retiring after 33 years of teaching elementary, middle and high school band, she now teaches sectionals and individual lessons at various schools in Jefferson County. Ms. Lyles began her teaching career in LaRue County in 1987 and moved back to Louisville in 1989 where she taught at Fern Creek High School and its feeder schools for 8 years. Her last 23 years were spent teaching band at Noe Middle School. The bands under her direction at Noe consistently received distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association Festival Assessment. The concert band was selected to perform at the KMEA Professional Development Conference in 2009 and the Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform in 2015. Ms. Lyles’ honors include the LG&E KU/WHAS 11 Excellence in Classroom and Educational Leadership (ExCEL) Award in 2013; 12th District KMEA Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2016 and 2020; KMEA Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2016 and induction into the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity in 2019. Ms. Lyles received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Kentucky (1987) and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Louisville (1998) and became National Board Certified in 2011. She holds memberships in KMEA and the National Association for Music Education. Ms. Lyles is honored to have been invited to Murray State University for this event.
Heather Dipasquale is currently starting her 12th year teaching and 6th year as band director at Todd County Middle School. Her primary responsibilities include directing the 6th grade band, 7th grade band 8th grade band, and general music. She also teaches the Todd County Central High School concert band, marching band and color guard with her husband, Mike Dipasquale. Mrs. Dipasquale is a native of Murray, Kentucky and received her Bachelors of Music Performance and Teaching Certification at Murray State University. She went on to receive her Masters in Music Performance, Masters in Music Education, and Graduate Certificate in Orff Schulwerk from the University of Kentucky. Mrs. Dipasquale’s ensembles have consistently earned distinguished ratings at KMEA concert festivals. Her ensembles have been selected twice for the Kentucky Phi Beta Mu Concert Band Festival. She has presented clinics at KMEA, IMEC and NAFME conferences. She has also been published numerous times in the Music Educators Journal, National Federation of State High School Associations Music Journal, The Instrumentalist and Bluegrass Music News. She was also named a quarterfinalist for the GRAMMY music educator of the year award in 2019, 2022 and a semifinalist in 2020. She received First District Kentucky Music Educators High School Teacher of the Year in 2015 and 2016. She also received teacher of the year for Todd County Middle School in 2021 and Third District Kentucky Music Educators Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2023. Heather Dipasquale resides in Elkton, KY with her husband, Mike Dipasquale, and their daughter, Harper, and dog, Jaco.
Cheryl Amstutz specializes in teaching beginning band but enjoys working with musicians of all ages. She currently serves her colleagues as the Band Teacher Leader in Jefferson County Public Schools (KY). Before joining JCPS in 2017, Ms. Amstutz taught in Fayette County Public Schools, taught applied horn at Asbury University, maintained a private horn studio, and conducted Lexington’s New Horizons Band for two years. Before deciding to become a music educator, Ms. Amstutz was a stay-athome mom to four children (now adults). Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Asbury University and a Master of Music degree in Horn Performance from the University of Kentucky. She continues to be actively involved in community music-making with the Louisville Winds and has also played with the Central Kentucky Concert Band, Madison Community Band, Lexington Community Orchestra, Kentucky Ballet Theater Orchestra, and others. Ms. Amstutz was the District 12 KMEA Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Cheryl enjoys being a grandma, traveling, and being outside as much as possible.

Murray State Bands Wind Ensemble Dr. Brent Johnson, Conductor
Symphonic Band Dr. Ashley Shoupe, Conductor Both concert bands are open to all students regardless of major. Each ensemble performs contemporary and traditional wind band repertoire and present several concerts each semester. Audition is required for Wind Ensemble.
Racer Band Dr. Ashley Shoupe, Director The 200+ member Racer Band is made up of students from nearly every academic major on campus and provides entertainment at all MSU home football games. The Racer Band performs at high school band competitions and hosts the Festival of Champions on campus every year.
Jazz Ensembles Dr. Todd Hill, Director Jazz ensembles at Murray State have a rich tradition of excellence. Jazz bands are open to any student on campus regardless of major and require a short audition for seating placement at the beginning of each semester.
Racer Pep Band Dr. Ashley Shoupe, Director The Racer Pep Band performs at all the Men's and Women's home basedball games and travels to tournament games in March. This group is open to any student on campus and meets November March each year.
