Digital Communications Executive
THE ROLE Would you like to build on our strong foundations and help us increase digital engagement? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, creative, web and social media literate individual to join Fettes as Digital Communications Executive within the Marketing Team.
This varied and fast-paced role requires an enthusiastic individual with superb website CMS skills, a strong understanding of social media for business (including advertising), excellent time management, a collaborative and pro-active approach and creative flair. The role combines the technological capabilities of a digital communicator and the creative understanding of a marketing executive. Working directly with the Director of External Relations and members of the Fettes Marketing Team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make their mark and increase engagement. Key Responsibilities Website • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the website, providing support to colleagues, and developing a full working knowledge of the CMS (training will be provided) • Upload daily content to the website, creating bespoke areas when required • Pro-actively work with teaching staff to obtain and/or create relevant news articles and/or video footage from all departments, ensuring an ongoing balanced presence is delivered effectively • Produce termly e-newsletters for Prospective Parents and Current Parents (created through the website CMS) • Input into the website evaluation, refresh, and strategy discussions and online marketing campaigns • Monitor, evaluate and suggest new techniques and opportunities for www.fettes.com • Undertake regular evaluation of the google analytics associated with www.fettes.com and provide regular reporting on activity with recommendations for improvements. Social Media • Design and implement all content creation to post on the official Facebook, Twitter & Instagram accounts (including Instagram stories) aligned to strategy and evaluation plans. • Understand the nuances of each social media platform mentioned above and develop content/strategies for all three to maximise engagement and promote brand awareness. • Understand and promote the Fettes ‘brand’ and tone of voice in all digital communications. • Create and post all social media advertising across (full working knowledge and track record of these systems used in business is favourable).
• Monitor, evaluate and report on all social media stats monthly to ensure best practice, frequency and quality. • Develop social media campaigns and a digital social marketing strategy inline with upcoming events and the overall marketing strategy with direction from the Director of External Relations. Photography and design • Liaise with the school photographer to organise and maintain the photography schedule, keeping this within budget, and effectively maximizing the wealth of visuals. • An ability to create your own high-quality photography on iPhone/go-pro (provided) would be an advantage as would the ability to create video content and to produce infographic artwork. • GDPR training will be provided to ensure that all images stored are done so in accordance with GDPR. Additional Responsibilities • Work closely and collaboratively with the Development team, including weekly meetings and support when needed. • Play an active and involved role within the Marketing Team, which may on occasion include out of hours or weekend involvement in events and include other reasonable duties that may be required by the Director of External Relations. PERSON SPECIFICATION Experience • Experience in content management systems and managing social media accounts for a business is vital. • IT literate across a broad range of Microsoft applications and experience in the use of google analytics required. • Self-motivated to take the initiative to manage tasks independently. • Client-focused with an appreciation of the importance of communicating the right message to the right audience to market the brand. • Excellent copy-writing and proof-reading skills – an eye for detail. • Ability to work independently and work well with colleagues. • Excellent organisational and planning skills. • Excellent inter-personal skills.

BENEFITS The remuneration package will be competitive and will, to an extent, depend on the experience of the successful candidate. We are ideally seeking to recruit a fulltime member of staff, but for the right candidate we would look at part-time, interim, or flexi employment. You will be entitled to 30 days’ holiday during the School Year (September to August) plus 8 designated Public Holidays providing they fall outside of term time. You will be opted into the Fettes Trust Non-Teaching Staff Pension Scheme after 3 months service. This scheme is a money purchase one and full details of it and your options will be made available to you prior to your opt-in date. The Fettes Trust will contribute to the scheme and your contribution will be subject to the minimum overall combined employer and employee contribution limits set by the Pensions Regulator. Further details will be outlined in the contract of employment. In addition, a pension matching scheme is in operation up to 10%. Lunchtime meals may be taken in the Dining Hall free of charge during term time and when catering is provided and you are on duty. Parking is free of charge within the campus grounds. ABOUT FETTES Fettes College is a leading HMC co-educational boarding and day school close to the heart of Edinburgh. It has a strong tradition of academic, sporting and cultural excellence underpinned by outstanding pastoral care. Fettes opened its doors in 1870 and became fully co-educational in 1980: it is now an independent school of some 800 students. There are 598 students in the Senior School (13-18 years) and 202 students in the Preparatory School (7-13 years). The academic staff in the College consists of the Head and 91 full-time members of the Common Room. Our Prep School shares the same site and consists of a further 29 full-time teaching staff. The school stands on a magnificent site of approximately 100 acres, but still within walking distance of Edinburgh’s city centre. The historic main building holds the Chapel, Library, the English, Classics and History Departments as well as the Medical Centre and two boarding houses. A large newly built teaching block (the Spens Building) houses Art, Modern Languages, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, and Music. The Theatre, Science Laboratories and Dining Hall are adjacent. The Preparatory School and seven further boarding houses (including a purpose-built U6th House) are also on the campus.
