Baggin’ a Bargain

Every family has its own festive traditions. Some enjoy spending the period of time between Christmas and 1 January lounging in flannel PJs and watching the Home Alone trilogy on loop. Others go skiing, which always seems appealing. Mine? We hit the sales. Big time. The annual Next bargain bonanza is as much a part of our celebrations as leaving a mince pie out for Santa or ending New Year’s Eve with a cats choir rendition of Auld Lang Syne. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without it. However, the years spent being dragged to the cut-price craziness in town has given me something of a complex and now I hate sales shopping. After spending the best part of 72 hours gorging myself on turkey and stuffing, and Baileys and Ferrero Rochers, the last thing I want to do is fight off frenzied shoppers for the last dress in my size. Which is why I’ll be staying in, with my feet up and my laptop on the sofa arm, using Look’s ultimate sales directory as my online guide. On p8, we’ve rounded up the best bargains on offer this year: from the party frocks we’ve been eyeing-up all season long to the Mulberry must-haves that will last you a lifetime. With up to 83 per cent off, you’ll find plenty of things to blow your backhander bucks and voucher stash on. If you’re brave enough to hit the high street IRL, you’re a better woman than I am. Good luck, and happy shopping.

COVER STORY
RIHANNA:
‘2018 Wi l l B e Different’ She’s planning some very exciting (and surprising changes) during the next 12 months…
Above: Ri’s own road. Top: Her beau Hassan
Left: Ri’s make-up line. Below: Her own humanitarian award
R i h a n n a’s ready to set tle down with Hassan at Giorgio Baldi in LA. She’s certainly proved she’s a pro businesswoman after her sell-out beauty line Fenty Beauty was released in September. The collection, which includes 40 foundation shades, earned $72m (£54m) in media values (the amount of publicity Fenty Beauty received through reviews and social posts) in one month. But with all aspects of her career going well, perhaps the biggest change could come to Rihanna’s relationship with Hassan Jameel, 29. As Look reported earlier in the year, Rihanna is said to have cut all ties with her exes, both Drake and Chris Brown, to finally get closure
and move on in her new relationship. While the pair – who were recently spotted arriving at London’s Heathrow Airport – are said to have been dating since the summer, Ri has been wearing a ring on that finger – and it’s a big deal. ‘It’s important to Rihanna to have her own life outside of a relationship, that’s why you don’t see Ri and Hassan joined at the hip,’ explains a friend. ‘But they’re committed to one another long-term and she’s definitely ready to settle down. ‘Rihanna has been very coy about where the diamond ring she’s been wearing came from, whether Hassan gave it to her or if it’s a favourite piece of jewellery she already owned. She’s told friends it’s simply a sign of how happy she is to be with him, but we all know it’s a bit more than that. This is the happiest, healthiest relationship she’s been in. The past 12 months have been a dream come true.’ While we’re not sure we could cope with the excitement of another engagement, we are SO behind this!

The star’s been spotted wearing a ring on THAT finger!
ver at Look HQ, we’ve been having a think about Rihanna’s New Year’s resolutions. Having smashed so many career goals in 2017, we’re intrigued – what’s next on the bucket list, Ri? But, according to a source speaking exclusively to Look, Ri has set her sights even higher for 2018 (higher than having a street named in her honour) – and there are some big changes on the horizon, including something major with beau Hassan Jameel… ‘Everything has come together for Rihanna, it’s just one positive after another right now,’ says a source. ‘She has been meticulous with planning her career and anyone close to her will tell you she works so diligently. There’s no luck involved, it’s all down to her hard work. Obviously, Ri has been a hugely successful singer for several years now, but her passions are a bit deeper than that. She’s now seen as an actress, fashion designer, spokesperson and trendsetter, too.’ We hear the 29 year old is not only working on new music, with plans to release an album, she also wants to ramp up her acting career and schedule in some roles for the next couple of years – as well as a very exciting, new project. ‘Rihanna is constantly getting a stream of offers and is working on all kinds of things, including hosting the Met Gala, and she can’t wait for Ocean’s 8 to be released,’ reveals an insider. ‘Film has always been a huge passion of hers, and she thinks this will really prove she has what it takes as an actress. She’s not only hoping this will lead to many more projects, but also quite likes the idea of launching a production company.’ If this wasn’t enough, we’ve heard Ri could be expanding her business ventures even further, after an insider has revealed she’s toying with the possibility of turning her love of cooking into a restaurant, and has been learning about the business side of things through friends
TAYLOR:

NEWS
here’s so much love in the air right now, and it’s making us mega happy. If it’s not Meghan Markle and Prince Harry getting engaged, then it’s Taylor Swift and boyfriend Joe Alwyn having some major PDA in London. As Look reported previously, mates have been weighing in on the 28 year old’s relationship with Joe, 26, sharing their opinion that it simply won’t work. But, according to our source, Tay is determined to prove the haters wrong. ‘Taylor is living life her way – and won’t listen to anyone who tries to rain on her parade,’ explains a friend. ‘They’re an official item, and it’s a relief to no longer have to hide from the cameras. When Joe came along, it was really healing to be out of the spotlight, and they got into quite a habit of just staying cooped up, but it’s a time for new beginnings. Taylor has had so much support from fans and has realised how much people love her.’ We hear the pair – who are said to have been in a relationship for almost a year now – are getting serious. HAIRLINE Hairline spots could be down to shampoo build-up not being fully washed out, or make-up in your hairline not being removed properly. Take the time to double cleanse and make sure you’re really rinsing your hair well in the shower.
FOREHEAD Pimples on the forehead could be down to eating too much red meat, sugar and saturated fat, or drinking excess alcohol. Try cutting out sugar and fatty foods, and drinking green tea to detoxify. CHEEKS
NOSE
Spots on your cheeks could be an indicator of too much sugar, or possibly dairy intolerances. It could also be a sign that your phone is dirty – so keep it clean!
Blemishes around your nose are often caused by make-up blocked pores. Try switching to non-comedogenic products that don’t cause as much build-up.

Skin irritation around your chin can often indicate hormonal imbalances and/or stress. If you keep getting recurring spots along your jawline, we recommend checking in with your doctor as they can suggest a hormone regulator, like the Pill.

ews just in: sparkles are hot property for party season. Groundbreaking information, right? We’re not talking sequins or glitter, though. We mean full-on ’90s throwback gems. Give us a minute to explain. We guarantee you’ll want to follow suit because 1) everything is 100% better when it’s sparkly, and 2) it’s the only time of the year you can go OTT without looking too extra. Rhinestones may give us all flashbacks of that bejewelled belt we added to our ‘jeans and a nice top’ combo, or those blingy hoop earrings we wore 24/7, but they’re back

@louise.thompson
t goes without saying that New Year’s Eve almost always disappoints. Come midnight, you’re either trying so desperately to WhatsApp everyone you know to wish them a happy new year that you end up missing out on a rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Or you are so pissed you end up accidentally hugging (read: snogging) your ex. The one salvation then is the chance to wear the perfect party outfit. This year we’re taking inspo from you guys, who are nailing it with everything from leather trews to pleated midi skirts. Go on, see 2017 out with a bang and ring in 2018 in standout styleÉ

A N I V A D g n i g n a h C ‘ e f i L r u o Y ’ y s a E t ’ Is n From staying motivated during winter to top tips from her trainer, we chatted exclusively to Davina McCall about all things fitnessÉ
DAVINA MCCALL INTERVIEW T-shirt, £8 Leggings, £14 Both F&F
on’t feel sorry for us, but when you’re a major fangirl of a particular celeb, interviewing them is tough. First, you have to find the balance between professionalism and ‘OMG, Davina, we love you’, and then you have to actually write about the interview – without going on and on and on about how much you love them (can you see how tough this is?). No matter what, whenever we catch up with Davina McCall – aka, TV presenter and fitness guru – we leave feeling amazing, inspired and ready to crawl out of bed at 6am to go for a run (which, for this writer, is exceptionally rare). Catching up with the 50 year old last week, for the launch of F&F’s Activewear collection, Davina – who recently confirmed she has split from husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson – is talking all things fitness – how she stays motivated, where the heck those abs come from and who her fitness inspiration is (surely just look in a mirror, right?). She also tells us how she really feels about New Year’s resolutions, and reveals the number one tip she received from her trainer (hint: it’s a total game changer). Not gonna’ lie, we want Davina to be our best mate – and PT, to be honest…
Hi Davina! The new collection looks great, what do you love about it? What I always love about the F&F collection is the leggings. The waistbands are unbelievably flattering and they never stretch or bag. They’re always available in brilliant colours and patterns, and

1 in the new range there are some dark camo print trousers. They’re my favourite piece and come with a secret zip pocket that can hold your locker key or change, which is handy. How do you keep motivated to workout during winter? In the back of my mind, I always know that I’m never going to regret a workout. Usually, I’ll have two or three events throughout the year that I want to get fit for and that motivates me, too. Aside from this, I think small achievements are so important – I’ve got a Garmin (activity tracker) and that motivates me so much. What tips would you give to anyone who’s struggling with willpower? When you choose to change your

lifestyle, the hard bit is making the decision to do it. Actually doing it feels easier, but the hard bit is deciding you’re committed to it. For me, anything I do, I sign up with two or three friends. It’s really

motivating, because if they ring you up and tell you they’ve just done a 30km bike ride, you want to do one, too! Then, when the weather isn’t great, you don’t have to leave your house – that’s why I started the workout DVDs. What exercise do you find is the most effective? My new DVD has just been released and is called Toned In 10. It’s with my new trainer Sarah Gorman, and since I’ve been training with her I’ve slimmed down and toned up a lot. I think it’s because we mix it up – sometimes we’ll do Pilates, sometimes we’ll do boxing or barre. Other times I like to go running, and I love spin. If you do a bit of everything then your body is going to benefit from all the different disciplines. What’s the best tip you’ve received from a trainer? Doing heavier weights doesn’t necessarily get me results. Depending on the type of exercise, I’ve been using 1.5kg and 2kg weights and my arms have never been more defined. Being able to keep your form is really important, because if you get injured then you’re out for six weeks. Not gonna lie, you’re our ultimate fitspo! Who’s your inspiration? I like people who are really fun with it. There’s a woman on Instagram, Faye Edwards [@fayes_fitness], who just has real fun when she’s working out. Then my cousin, @fitfenji, she lives in Australia and I really like seeing her posts because when I get up, she’s already had her day! There’s also an account called @6amclub and they go running every morning at 6am, come rain or shine! Last time we chatted you were sugar-free. How’s that going? I’m constantly sugar-free now. I’ll use honey occasionally and I still eat fruit, but I avoid refined. I never thought I’d say this but I don’t crave sugar any more. I used to put a Quality Street on my bedside table every year, so that the first thing I ate on Christmas morning was a sweet, but I don’t want to do that now.

I’m 50 years old now, so you’d expect the opposite to be true, but I just keep feeling better and better. I’m 70, and I’ll still be sprinting. You always look incredible, what are your go-to beauty products? Garnier Summer Body, I’ve been going on about it for years, but I’m obsessed. Also, eyelash curlers. They are amazing, everyone should always use them, they really open your eyes. I also use a Dr Frances Prenna Jones cleanser, it is expensive but I love the smell of it. What’s your New Year’s resolution? To not give anything else up! I’ve given up so much already [laughs]. In a funny kind of way, New Year’s resolutions are set up to shame you or make you feel sh*t about yourself! You only end up not fulfilling them and feeling bad all year. Things ALWAYS Whe
l You’ll receive an influx of wedding diaries, planners, engraved champagne flutes and ‘save for the big day’ piggy banks (can’t really save an average of £33K in one of those can you, hun?). l You’ll look at your hand 376 times every day, not just because your ring is shiny AF, but just to give yourself a lil pat on the back for getting your nails done beforehand. Side note: thanks, Mum, for not-so-subtly insisting on a manicure. l Every now and then (read: most nights at 3am) you’ll feel a wave of anxiety at the very thought of who will make the guest list. Should workmates get a plus one? Will your boss fire you if you don’t invite his wife? What does everyone else do? HELP. l For a split second, you’ll consider the option of a wedding planner. Treat yourself, right? Then you realise how much they cost. l You’ll wonder if you can ask for wedding gifts in advance, because right now you’re not exactly sure how you’re going to pay for this thing. l You’ll have a firm list of bridesmaids (which has taken months to whittle down because bridesmaid-anxiety is real), but then you’ll get pissed and end up asking at least two others – including your neighbour (argh) and an old uni friend you haven’t seen for at least three years.

Women Empowered Men, women, cats and dogs joined forces on 21 January to protest against the appointment of Trump. The Women’s March, as it was officially known, was the largest single-day protest in history, held one day after he was sworn in.
february
Emma Stone Goes Gold The actress, 29, bagged the Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in La La Land, kicking off her most successful awards season ever. She gave a teary eyed speech, ending in a typically Emma Stoneesque awkward hug and followed it with an Academy Award in the same category.
The Big Oscar Boo-boo Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway made history after they announced the wrong winner of the Best Picture at the Oscars. The duo pronounced La La Land as the top film, when it was in fact Moonlight that had been awarded the prize. The La La Land team even went as far as to begin their acceptance speech, before producer Jordan Horowitz took to the mic to explain. Madness.
Bey-bies Beyoncé confirmed what Look already knew in the most epic way ever, with a photoshoot to end all other photoshoots. This is how you announce to the world that you’re pregnant with twins. Take note, guys.
