How We met AS TOLD BY THE BRIDE Sometime early October 2017, my former supervisor was preparing for his deployment to Afghanistan for a few years. I was invited to attend his going away luncheon that day. After the luncheon, a former team member and coworker (T. Trott, Onboarding Officer) was assisting the new employees with getting acclimated to the agency (DCMA). Michael was one of the new employees. Apparently, the new employees received terrible customer service from the badging office (DHS) and reported the incident to T. Trott. Coincidentally at the time, I worked in the same building as the badging office. Michael, along with the other new employees, and T. Trott, all walked over to tell me about their incident. I knew of the young lady in the office they were referring to and I made the comment that I would notify the appropriate individual in her chain of command. Everyone, apart from T. Trott, walked away and we briefly chatted for a minute. T. Trott knew I was scheduled to return to DCMA in a few weeks. Michael and the others weren’t privy to that information, nor did they know I formerly worked there…or so Michael says. Unfortunately, T. Trott and I had to end our conversation because she had to get back to the new employees. We said, “See you soon” and that was the end of our conversation. It’s funny because when I left that day, my “see you soon” was truly short-lived. I returned to the office two weeks later. It was during my second week back with DCMA - roughly one month from first meeting Michael, he noticed that I was in the office a lot. Not only was I in the office, but we also sat in the same aisle. I sat on the back wall, and he was four cubicles in front of mine. To say our meet was a coincidence, who knows…

AS TOLD BY THE GROOM Monica previously worked at DCMA. During my third day at DCMA Indoc class we had to get our CAC card. Monica worked at DHS at that time (where we had to go to get our CAC card). Monica’s DCMA supervisor was leaving so she was invited to his going away luncheon in the DCMA building. My office experience at DHS was terrible. I came back and reported the incident it to my Indoc POC to tell her about the bad customer service. She said that lady (Monica) over there is the Supervisor of the CAC card department, tell her. So Tina introduced me to Monica so I could tell her my bad customer service I received. As I was speaking to her (Monica), I said in my thoughts, "She is beautiful". I was plotting in my mind how I should go over to her job and take her on friendly lunch dates. As the days went by, I started seeing Monica more and more in my workspace. Little did I know, Monica was transferring back to DCMA. Her cubicle was four down from mine and the rest is history. First, let me start off by saying GOD is Good. Secondly, thank you both for allowing me to be part of this special occasion with your family and friends. May today be the beginning of a long and happy life together. Best wishes!!! - Gary Drew

Meet the

Sweetest Party

The Ladies

MONICA DENSLOW Mother of the Bride

If she were a candy bar, she would be her favorite, a Kit Kat. A deep thinker who puts God first in everything she puts her heart, mind and soul into. She's extremely intelligent, logical, and hard working. She is the Queen that gave the bride life and the matriarch of the family.

MARY FRANCES BROWN Mother of the Groom

If she were a candy bar, she would be a Hershey Bar. She cares about other people and tends to melt and get gushy if held too close. A devoted women of God. She is the Queen that gave the groom life.

LESIA DENSLOW

The Bride's Sister and Monica's "Ride Or Die" for Life

If she were a piece of candy, she would be Sour Patch Kids. She's a bit unpredictable - sometimes sweet, sometimes sassy, sometimes "duh". Who knows? But her unpredictability makes her unique, exciting, and an allaround fun person to be around.

BRITTANY CUNNINGHAM

The Groom’s “Ambitious and Tenacious” Eldest Daughter

If she were a candy bar, she would be a Twix. A combination of an introverted and extroverted personality. Just as a Twix has a left and right side, she has a shy side and a crazy side. She's smooth, articulate, sophisticated and enticing enough to convince anyone to indulge.

CAMILLE TUCKER

The Bride’s Sister-Cousin and “Travel Partner/Diva”

If she were a piece of candy or a chocolate bar, those wouldn't be good enough. She's a succulent Peanut Butter Cup. Undeniably bold, flirtatious, and independent. Her goals keep her going and her unique personality is a hidden treasure. When most drink Starbucks or Dunkin, she'll head to Peets Coffee.

CHRISTINE CHIN

The Bride’s “Turn-Up / Life of the Party” Cousin

If she were a piece of candy, she would be a Hot Tamale. If you can't take the heat...get out of the Hot Tamales box! Her flaming cinnamon personality won't scare you but actually keeps you coming back for more.

JASMINE WILLIAMS

The Bride’s “Simply Sweet” Eldest Daughter

If she were a piece of candy, she would be a Twizzler. She’s a more mature version of Gummy Worms. She's never lost her juvenile spirit, but can still balance the demands of being an adult by juggling a FT college load and a shift Supervisor/Trainer at Starbucks. That's what makes her loved by many.

ZARAEA COLEMAN

The Bride’s "Still Waters Run Deep"Middle Daughter

If she were a piece of candy, she would be a Blowpop. At first, she seems reserved and firm. She takes her time to get to know people. Eventually, she’ll open up (the good bubblegum center) so everyone can see how flexible she really is.

TALAYA DENSLOW

The Bride's "Model in the Works & Aunt Jean" Niece If she were a piece of candy, she would be a Starburst. She’s very unique and there’s only one way to love her. Like the candy in a checkout line, she’s always available for her friends when they are feeling down or when they need her most.

CAITLYN COLEMAN

The Bride's Youngest "Twin" Daughter

If she were a piece of candy, she would be Sugar and Spice and everything nice. Ridiculously fun, funny and just love all around. She’s positive, bright, and optimistic. She loves people with the same enthusiasm and loves to share good energy with everyone else.

GIANNA THOMPSON

The Bride’s "Youngest Daughter’s Bff in Elementary School" If she were a candy bar, she would be a 3 Musketeers. She’s gentle, fluffy, and will float straight to the top of the crowd with her friendly presence, her warm hugs and her big beautiful smile and laughter.

DELANI JOSEPH

The Bride’s "Neighborhood Doorbell Ringer"

If she were a piece of candy, she would be your favorite bag of Skittles. Her personality includes everything and spans the rainbow. While she can be a “busy bee”, she blends together into a perfect mouthful of utter sweetness.

Meet the

Sweetest Party

The Gentlemen

HENDERSON EARLEY

The Groom’s Navy Shipmate and Best Man

50 Grand from Memphis, TN. At one point in his life, he wrote a song with Elvis Presley. If he were a piece of candy, he would be M&M's. He's adventurous and always ready to head out on a journey with only a moment's notice. A colorful personality and a tendency to keeping friends and family on their toes.

GARY DREW

The Groom’s Navy Shipmate and Groomsman

He likes to hunt, an antique car collector, and likes coming off the bench for the Groom. If he were a piece of candy, he would be a Peanut Chew. Bold, ambitious, and independent. Knows what he wants and not afraid to go after it. Occasionally, he's seen as intimidating or unapproachable, but he's actually a very loyal friend to everyone in his small circle.

ANTHONY FULLINGTON

The Groom’s Navy Shipmate and Groomsman

At one point in his life, he was a backup singer for Silk and Jodeci. If he were a box of candy, he would be Nerds. It’s go big or go home with him. Watch out, he's a true entertainer, spontaneous, energetic and life is never boring with him.

ANDRE' COOKE

The Groom’s Coworker and Groomsman

At one point in his life, he was a Former Norfolk State Running Back. If he were a piece of candy, he would be a Raisinette. He's good at keeping his work life and personal drama separate, which is sometimes necessary because when he chooses to party, he's all in.

IBRAHIM SORIE-TORAY

The Groom’s Mentee and Groomsman

At one point in his life, he was a famous Herndon Soccer Player. If he were a piece of candy, he would be a Snickers. Athletic in school and continues to be very sports and fitness minded. When M&M asked him about work, his response, "It's called work for a reason!"

TERRIEL COOKE

The Groom’s Little Buddy and Ringbearer

He is currently ranked #1 in Boxing and Wrestling in the State of Virginia. If he were a piece of candy, he would be a Bubble Gum Ball. A go-getter with plenty of ambition and an occasional lack of patience. He's one of those rare morning people who springs out of bed with no alarm clock, regardless of how much sleep he's had the night before.

MERRICK CAMPBELL

The Bride’s Oldest Brother

Although his birthday is three days after Monica's, he's not classified to be a piece of candy...he's Mr. Boombastic himself! A Leo that's live and in living color. When he reads this, he's going to kill me...lol...but he's vibrant, kind, and easy going. Definitely one of the cool kids growing up.

DEON HERVING

The Bride’s Second Brother

Although he's the Bride's brother aka "El DeBarge", he also shares the title "Shipmate" with the Groom. If he were a piece of candy, he would be Licorice. A little old-school. He's a stickler when it comes to rules and punctuality and appreciate when others are as well. Friends and colleagues admire him for his discipline and work ethic.

COURTNEY HART

The Bride’s Third Brother

As a kid, we called him "Meathead". Now he's "Spike Lee's" double. But if he were a piece of candy, he would be a Caramel Chew. He values people with a similar thirst for knowledge and gravitate towards people he can learn something from.

MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM III

The Basketball Star and The Groom's One and Only Son

If he were a piece of candy, he would be a Twist Pop. Although he's a quiet, yet powerful, 6'4, kid at heart, he likes to take his time to get to know someone, and holds-off on opening up until he's familiar with them.

DONTE' HATCHER

The Bride’s "Son" / Nephew

If he were a piece of candy, he would be Pop Rocks. He's a risk taker that believes in himself and his abilities. No matter what challenges he takes on, he's always having fun, laughs, loves and thrive in the face of adversity.

AN INTERVIEW WITH THE

Bride & Groom

WHO SAID ‘I LOVE YOU’ FIRST?

MONICA: I say him! He says me! What I do know is now we’re here… happy, together, purposeful with our love!

MICHAEL: Of course she said it first. Because when she asked me, I told her "Yes, I do!" Then she said "Why don't I say it back to her?" I said, "Because you know I do." Then she told me, "A women likes to hear it sometimes."

DESCRIBE YOUR FIRST DATE?

MONICA: He wore navy slacks and a yellow buttoned down shirt and tie. Mike always looked sharp, even on dress down Fridays. I wore a sundress and wedges…keeping it cute and classy, as always. We both ordered burgers, fries, and a margarita (our favorite). I just remember laughing A LOT! We talked about our children, our mothers, our past relationships, we talked about everything freely and openly. Nothing was off-limits. I honestly don’t think we had a moment of “air/silence” time. It was the first time (in a looooong time) I felt comfortable enough to share myself with another man.

MICHAEL: When I first pulled up to the restaurant, I knew she was bougie. It was a lakefront restaurant with a nice view. She wore a dress that showed every curve imaginable on her body. Whew, she looked NICE. I thought our conversations were mind-blowing and to sit across from someone who was very intelligent, articulate, and beautiful.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION?

MONICA: He’s a charmer…but not a player. He spoke to my soul with intellect, clarity, and meaning…I didn’t just hear a voice speaking words. He’s a S.H.A.R.P. dresser…had a few people in the office thinking he was the head man in charge. He’s handsome…I mean look at him…not too hard…lol. He’s a real gentleman…A bit of advice for the ladies…if you have to ask, he’s not the one.

MICHAEL: Her honesty, her smile, and how straightforward she is. She was definitely a keeper. I thought she was going to be just a long-term girlfriend. As the dates continued and I saw her honesty, her smile that lights up a room, her BIG laughter, and very straightforwardness, I knew I had to have her.

It's beautiful to see when two people find happiness in one another. We wish you both the best future together. - Kerry Brown & Krystal Carter

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT HIM/HER?

MONICA: We both share the same “no tolerance” basic standards. #1 - Must have a healthy relationship with God. #2 - No recreational drugs, cigarette-free, or alcoholics! #3 - Must have children and be active / involved in their lives. #4 - At this age, he had to be a BAWSE handling his business!

MICHAEL: She taught me how to relax and live my life. My favorite thing about her is how easy it was for me to be around her. How she accepted me for who I am. She really treats me like a king. Monica is a smile maker. She taught me how to relax and live my life.

DESCRIBE HIM/HER IN 3 WORDS. MONICA: Perfect! For! Me! :-)

MICHAEL: Caring, beautiful, and princess

WHO IS THE BETTER COOK?

MONICA: Hands down, me!! If you find one person that can say otherwise, he paid them off. PERIODT!! MICHAEL: Depends.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?

MONICA: Seeing and celebrating M&M love with everyone. It’s been at least 2 years since a lot of us have seen each other. We’re not only celebrating our love but the fact that so many have come out to celebrate our union and love for one another. Knowing that some have traveled so far, truly means more to us than you’ll ever know. If you see us stopping and looking around, that’s just us embracing and taking it all in. We’re just going to sit back and enjoy THIS moment. MICHAEL: Sharing my most exciting moment of marrying Monica in the presence of family and friends.

WHO LEANED IN FIRST FOR THE FIRST KISS?

MONICA: He did. I’m 5’0 so I can’t / couldn’t lean in first to kiss him…lol. MICHAEL: I usually just leave work without saying anything. And she told me not to leave anymore without saying bye or giving her a hug.

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU’VE LEARNED ABOUT EACH OTHER?

MONICA: We both share the same love for our children, traveling, our successes, and God. MICHAEL: We share a lot of the same life experiences. M&M, continue to let your love shine bright. Your energy is contagious and we're all better for knowing you. Cheers to the beautiful bride and groom! - Mark & Joana Davis

AN INTERVIEW WITH THE

Bride & Groom

WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU FOUND THE ONE?

MONICA: No matter how difficult or ugly things got (even with my ex), he stayed and NEVER wavered. He was intentional with his actions and really made me feel safe and desired. I felt comfortable enough to be vulnerable and he never took advantage. He heard my dreams and now they’re our goals. MICHAEL: We both have tremendous love for our children. To hear and see how she treats her children was a no-brainer for me. She's a good mother - fair and a role model. From day one, it just felt right (like peanut butter and grape jelly). I could finish her thoughts and she could finish mine.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES?

MONICA: Michael is a true Dallas Cowgirls fan…lol. I’m a diehard Commanders fan. For his birthday, I purchased tickets to the Christmas rivalry game in Dallas and VIP tickets to do a private tour of A&T Stadium. The look on his face was absolutely priceless. I believe that was the moment I knew and understood his love language. When we finally arrived at A&T Stadium, he stopped, looked at the stadium to take it all in, and shook his head in disbelief. He came up to me and gave me the tightest hug ever. I will never forget that hug because he really couldn’t believe we were there together…to experience it… together. MICHAEL: We have created so many memories but I would say everything about our trips to Hawaii and Texas are the most memorable for me. We visited seven cities and two states (Texas and Oklahoma) in nine days. For our trip to Hawaii, we toured the entire island of Oahu in twelve days. I'm looking forward to making more memories with her.

TOP FIVE LOVES WITH EACH OTHER?

MONICA: Traveling, lost over 80 pounds together, binge watch tv shows, pillow talks, and people watching together!! MICHAEL: To see her happy, traveling, losing weight together, working in the same office together, and just being with her.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU TWO?

MONICA: My Family Reunion in Jamaica (August) and decorating "M&M Manor". We've discussed a virtual blog and trips with other like-minded couples. Who knows! MICHAEL: To keep enjoying and living life with my best friend.

They say you don’t marry the person you can live with, you marry the person you can’t live without. I’m so happy that the two of you have found each other. Your happiness, love, respect and joy is infectious. You’re the true example of what black love is and what so many strive for. Congratulations! Keep God in your circle and you can’t go wrong.
