Our Love Story What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Mark 10:9 KJV

We are the perfect example of an “Opposites Attract” love story. Jeffrey, an extrovert and life-of-the party, is a rigid marine veteran. He is most comfortable maintaining his familiar routines and rarely veers from original plans. He’s adamant about being on time, and can strike a conversation with just about anyone. Shakeelah is a more reserved, natural-born listener. Though she enjoys hosting small events and family gatherings, she mostly shys away from being the center of attention. She loves finding new adventures and believes in trying everything once. Though she has a close group of friends she can call for the occasional girls’ night, her ultimate enjoyment comes from a peaceful day at the beach or a movie night at home. OUR INTERVIEW: Shakeelah: Yes, some of our differences drive me crazy! I’ve nicknamed him the “time-police” because of how he glares at me and the clock every time we have to get ready for an event. I’m also amazed at how he can eat the same meal every day because he doesn’t like to try new things. At the same time, I can’t help but smile because I know how much he balances me. His boisterous personality keeps me laughing and his discipline keeps me grounded. He’s taught me many times how to view things from different perspectives and saved me several times from making costly mistakes. Anything less would be just plain boring and I couldn’t imagine sharing my life with anyone any different. Jeffrey: Yes, being so different can be challenging to say the least. As a person whose hobbies include stereo competitions, dating someone who can’t stand loud music was one of the first obstacles we had to work through. I also quickly noticed that while I like spending money on items I can show, she would rather spend it on experiences. As someone who routinely sticks to what I know and trust, creating new experiences was something that wasn’t as important to me. But I thank God for allowing our paths to cross. The things she’s taught me bring out the best in me and push me to be a better person. She’s helped mold my life in a way that I never thought possible and I’ve enjoyed every experience we’ve shared. What makes us great together is that our different personalities complement each other so well. One’s weakness is the other’s strength. The things we have in common make our relationships easy. However, our differences challenge us to become better individuals and push us to continually strive to make our relationship better each day. We thank God for our union and are looking forward to what the future has in store. “You don’t marry the person you can live with, you marry the person you can’t live without.” ~JD
