HOW WE A S TOLD BY THE BRIDE
It was May 11,2011 and my high school Murry Bergtraum English class went on a trip to see a play called “War Horse.” At that time I was a junior and Max was a senior. During intermission my classmates and I were all hanging out on the balcony looking over. I had some of my girlfriends with me and we were talking about the play. All of a sudden as I’m scanning the people that was on the ground level Max’s eye caught mine. We looked at each other and smile immediately I said “Ohh he’s Cute” He watched me with a smirk and put up his finger signaling me to come down. It just so happened one of my other friends, Danisha, who knew Max and his friends was standing right there and she saw his hand is in the air telling me to come down she screams out “SHERICE, COME ” I looked at her and gave her a nod. (The funny thing about this is he didnt know I was the same person she shouted to come down, as he was also beckoning me to come to meet him.) This was my que to go downstairs, because I am Ms. Forde I do NOT come to anybody’s finger.
So I turned to my best friend at the time Lenika and I said “There is this really cute guy downstairs, and Danisha called me down to meet him. Walk me down because I don’t want to fall” She immediately walked me down the steps then Danisha introduced us. Max stretched out his hand and when I reached for it he pulled away since I am naturally feisty I rolled my eyes and he chuckled. Then we shook hands. The other two friends said they wanted a hug so I gave them a hug, Max gave them a look to back up, and then we started talking. He gave me his number and I told him to find me on facebook. I spelled my name for him once because at the time I had a different name on facebook so I rushed home to change my name so he could find me. When he did we literally message each other all day and night, as if we knew each other for years. He opened up to me and I opened up to him because that year we both lost someone significantly close to us. Maybe this was God’s way of us finding love in one another in the midst of loss.
A S TOLD BY THE GROOM I met Sherice at Lincoln Theatre in NYC on May 11th, 2011. Although we attended different high schools, there were several high schools there to see the play named “War Horse.” During intermission everyone hung out in the lobby and on the balcony mingling and waiting to return. For some reason, I looked up and with great amazement, she made eye contact with me. With astonishment, I immediately beckoned Sherice to come down by signaling her to come down with my finger. Within seconds, her friend who was standing next to me said “Sherice Come!” She then decided to come down and to this day says “I did not come down to his crusty finger.” Sherice was nervous and told a friend “there’s a really cute guy downstairs and I don’t want to fall!.” While Sherice walked down, the closer she got to Max, the more butterflies in her stomach. She could feel my eyes piercing her, capturing every movement. I gazed in silence and smiled while experiencing excitement. Afterwards, she finally arrived! We looked at one another with eager anticipation and were experiencing a surge of emotions. Her friend introduced us and I shook her hand since I desired to display gentlemanly decorum. During introductions, I told Sherice “Put my number in your notes on your phone!” Sherice (who was having trouble locating her notes section said “Just give me your number!” Moments later when preparing to re-enter the theatre she then remembered her name on Facebook was different from what she told me. You see, at that time Sherice’s name on facebook was Melissa (ask me who she was hiding from lol!), so she rushed home to change it. When I found her on Facebook I had no idea that we would share intimate stories throughout the night, forming what would turn into an unbreakable bond. Fast forward, one year later, Sherice was transitioning to go away for college while I remained home working. Honestly, I had no idea of the difficulties that would transpire after spending everyday together to spending days, weeks, and months apart. Before leaving, she asked me “Can you wait for me to return or do you want to call it quits?” I replied, “We will figure it out and see it to the end.” We spent the future years drawing closer one to another, growing respectively, and being pruned by God - only to figure out that we were being shaped to be fitly joined together for a lifelong adventure.
Proposal The
A S TOLD BY THE BRIDE
Max took me out to dinner every weekend since September started. He threw little hints of getting married in the conversations more than usual. That particular Saturday he was excited to take me out on a date and I said clearly he had something up his sleeve. Earlier that week he told me I have to wear the black and gold dress for date night, however, I kept our previous conversation in mind that he mentioned many years ago, when he proposed he would plan a black and Gold party. As I started getting dressed, I added an extra touch to my makeup, some curls in my hair, blasted some soca and showed Out! When I got in the vehicle I started taking pictures because I’m looking at the route the limo driver was taking. Then I started thinking to myself if he were to propose he better propose where we met at Lincoln Theatre. It’s something about going back to the place we met one random afternoon that makes it so magically! Suddenly we reached and I saw Lincoln Theatre, I said “Oh my gosh it is happening!” I got out of the car, I started calling him and no answer! Then I saw his godmother, Martina coming down the steps and I started asking a ton of questions because it was random for her to show up when I reached. She thought quickly on her feet and said let me take a picture of you next to the Black Lives Matter Board. I stood there as she took my picture and I took hers, all of a sudden I seen my mom, dad, and granny coming out of a car. All of a sudden my Dad grabs me and walks me up the stairs and I see a bright light on my face, my dad looks at me and smile with the biggest smile and says “Today is your day” when I turn I see Max with my family, his family, a pathway set with rose petals and candles as he is already there on his knees. I immediately hugged him with tears filled in my eyes, because he remembered where and exactly how intimate I wanted it. All of sudden he starts his speech and he says “I just want to know…” I said “YES, YES YES,GOD YES” then he says I need to ask, so I gave him time to fully ask me to marry him & spend eternity with him and I yell “ YES” he gets up, with the biggest smile on his face and a sigh of relief of you’re officially mine. We went to dinner right after, toast with our family
A S TOLD BY THE GROOM What a lot of people don’t know is that I purchased the engagement ring one year from the moment I proposed, while finishing my master’s program. Months later, Sherice and I discussed our thoughts and feelings about spending the rest of our lives in covenant and partnership. We then decided to surprise her mother and father at a dinner where we asked for their blessing on our desire to be married. They first imparted wisdom and encouraged and provided their blessing! Soon after, we spoke with my mother and sisters who were ecstatic and filled with joy. My mother gave us several insightful speeches and gave us her blessing. On the day of the proposal my brother Sean traveled from CT to assist me with videography/photography to capture the moment. The plan was for her mother and father to act like they were going out to dinner. Afterwards they picked up my mother and her grandmother. My Nannan (Godmother), older brother and his wife were also in attendance who met me there. Sherice was under the impression that she and myself were going to a special dinner. While Sean and myself were en route, we used a private zoom link on which there were at least one hundred people and raced to the destination. While Sean and I drove I provided the attendees a synopsis of how Sherice and I met and where the proposal would be taking place. I also discussed how I was racing against the limo that picked her up so I could set up and be ready. When I arrived, I was assisted in setting up, gold, black, and white petals and candles - a runway of lights for her to walk through. I initially ran into a security guard that tried to give me trouble about setting up who spoke of needing a permit...I said, “Sir, let me speak to your supervisor….not today!” When the supervisor came, he and his son instantaneously waved their hands telling me to continue and expressed being happy for me. SO….thankfully those in attendance were still setting up lol! When Sherice arrived, my nannan stalled her until we were done and she was escorted by her father up the steps. As they walked towards me, she began crying and experiencing heart palpitations! As she was escorted to me, she hugged me tightly and said “Maaax!.” I then got down on bended knee and said< “Will you take this journey with me, Will You marry me?” Although she said ‘YES, YES, OH MY GOD YES’ ‘ halfway through my speech, I wanted to finish because I had a nice speech prepared that was well thought out... so I did...and then we kissed…and now you’ve by now witnessed the beginning of our covenant and beginning Era of The Altidor’s.
