How We Met Michael and Trenel met at a church youth leadership conference (the Northeastern Conference ARISE 2018 Convention, to be exact) back in January 2018. For dinner that Saturday night, Michael was seated at a table with two teens who he was chaperoning, while Trenel, and one of her friends who she was chaperoning, was escorted to sit at his table sometime during his meal. Trenel decided to sit next to Michael and be friendly. She simply asked Michael to pass her the salad dressing. He passed it, she introduced herself, he introduced himself back, and the rest is history!

THE PROPOSAL

Photos by: Hidden Gems Visual Photography

Back in March 2020, Michael scheduled a couples photoshoot to celebrate 2 years of love together with Trenel. However, because covid had just hit, Michael and Trenel decided to postpone their photoshoot until April, when they could do a joint event—a couple’s shoot and a photoshoot for Trenel’s 26th birthday. Trenel picked out her outfits, got her makeup done, did her hair, and popped on some press-on nails, while Michael coordinated with the photographer, picked the location, and brought her family members into the loop. Then on the Saturday before Trenel’s birthday, April 18th 2020, Michael turned what was supposed to be a birthday photoshoot for Trenel into a surprise marriage proposal! He had her brother, Trenton, and sister-in-law, Deneise, join them at the park under the guise of just accompanying them for fun being that it was Trenel’s birthday weekend. However, Trenton was there to record the proposal for Michael and Trenel, while Deneise filmed it on Facebook live so that both Michael and Trenel’s families could watch the proposal in real time but safely in their own homes (because #quarantine). A catered dinner at Trenel’s parents’ house with her immediate family followed and a whole host of well wishes!
