This year’s teams deserve a much needed congratulations for all the effort they put into bringing home the gold for the Freedom Family. For the first time in sixteen years, the girls tennis team can be called district champions once again. Girls tennis had a miraculous season last fall with an impressive record of 18-1. Their first doubles, Natalie Sinai and Tashanna Smith, capped off the season with bronze medals in the PIAA Class 3A doubles tournament in Hershey. The team was voted team of the year in the Lehigh Valley and their coach, Mark Sigmon, was voted coach of the year. Freedom’s Jason Roeder, the Morning Call’s 2018 football coach of the year, led the football team to victory with a spectacular record of 10-1 and the title of “District 12 The Freedom Forum 2019

Champions” to compliment their amazing season. Since 1990, boys soccer reclaimed the “District 11 Boys Soccer Championship” title after they conquered one of their strongest rivals, Spring-Ford, in their opening PIAA 4A boys soccer playoff game, which guaranteed them a spot in the quarterfinals. The girls soccer also scored a fantastic season with a grand record of 11 - 7 with only one tie match. Both the girls and boys baseball teams hit it off this season. The boys brought home a record 16 - 8, and the girls hit it out of the park with their spectacular record of 23 - 5. This winter the wrestling team tackled the competition and they have their marvelous record of 15 - 6 to show for it. The rifle team took one of their best shots

this year with their imposing record of 7 4. The boys swimming team definitely dove for the win this season with their grand record of 6 - 5. The boys and girls cross country teams definitely crossed a new line with the girls’ impressive score of 10 - 7 and the boys’ spectacular record of 9 - 8. Everyone’s high school career can be strenuous, but it is even more of a challenge for Freedom athletes who not only dedicate a majority of their time to their coach and team. Hopefully, Freedom’s Patriot teams remain fortified and continue to bring home the glory for years to come. Congratulations to all seniors for leading their teams to such successful seasons this year!

and textiles. She then worked at a Hess’s, an old department store that is no longer running. After ten years, she decided to start teaching. Mrs. Lechner then went back to college to get a teaching degree. Before coming to FHS, she worked in six other school districts as a substitute. She has taught many different subjects within Family and Consumer sciences, including cooking. “I did not really decide to become a cooking teacher. I wanted a permanent job and this was the Family and Consumer Science subject available at the time. Luckily for me, I like to cook and I like to share what I know about foods and nutrition, so it was a perfect match,” said Mrs. Lechner. Her favorite part about working at FHS were the interactions with other staff members and her students. Mrs. Lechner likes that her job has a purpose for the students. She teaches life skills daily that will prove useful to students in the future. “I teach a life skill. It’s more than cooking. Food preparation is about teamwork, problem solving, nutrition,

meal planning, and more,” said Mrs. Lechner. She has made many foods with her students over the year. However, there is not one specific food that is a favorite among students. “I guess the foods I like best are the ones the kids come back and tell me they made at home, or the recipes they ask for in an email,” said Mrs. Lechner. Although she will miss her students, Mrs. Lechner is looking forward to her retirement. “After retirement I am looking forward to not waking up to an alarm, to being with my children and grandchildren, and spending time with my husband and aging parents,” said Mrs. Lechner. During her retirement, she is also looking forward to crossing off some stops on her bucket list. She still has 12 states to visit, so that will be taking up a lot of her time, along with many other activites. “I know I will find plenty of activities to fill my time, because I do not like to be idle,” said Mrs. Lechner Mrs. Lechner retired this January and entered the next chapter of her life.

Oh yes, I push, prod, snark, can do so much." – Helen Keller and laugh with the members; however, they are the driving force to producing a monthly newspaper and a fabulous senior edition. Over their time in the club and in the journalism class, Gabby, Carson, Riley, and Derek have learned how to write and edit great articles, manage meetings and staff, and maintain a strict deadline. These are the qualities that employers value, so these fine students are on their way to having successful careers after college. I am proud of these seniors because all of them are going to study communications in some way at college. Carson will be attending UConn,

Considering we did not know the position we would be holding until just before our senior year began, we are more than proud of our accomplishments together. One accomplishment was paving the way for this newspaper to win first place in the American Scholastic Press Association Contest!
