ecord numbers of Sixth Formers at Francis Holland, Regent’s Park, have successfully completed the Extended Project, a qualification designed to challenge the most able students beyond A level. In addition to their A levels, several Sixth Formers completed Extended Projects on subjects ranging from ‘The Nanotechnology of Tennis Racquets’ to ‘The Causes of the Iran/Iraq Conflict’.

FHS Sixth Formers
The 440 strong girls’ school puts its continued success down to the excellent academic results achieved in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. A level results in 2009 were better than ever before. 60.5% achieved grade A and 84% achieved grades A and B. A number of girls
secured places at Oxford or Cambridge Universities. Mrs Vivienne Durham, the Headmistress, said, “These excellent results are testament to the hard work of the girls and their teachers. Competition for university places has been fiercer than ever so I am delighted the girls have been so successful.” FHS, however, offers so much more than pure academic success. Girls are happy and encouraged to fulfil themselves in other areas too. Sport, drama, music and art make a particularly strong contribution to the school’s lively extra-curricular schedule. The school has its own swimming pool and uses Regent’s Park for tennis, hockey, rounders and netball. A large new wing opened last year providing additional classrooms and seminar rooms, a fourth art studio and a performance area for music, drama and theatre studies. There are two school orchestras, several choirs and a jazz band. Girls can choose from over 70 clubs and societies, including history and politics, ju-jitsu, cookery, water polo, gymnastics, Mandarin Chinese, yoga, kick-boxing and animal club.
