WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO COSMETOLOGY STUDENTS WHO WANT TO BECOME CELEBRITY HAIRDRESSERS OR START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?
Stay focused. Nothing hard comes easy or else everyone would be doing it. Stay true to yourself. Be happy. Don’t forget why you are doing this. If you are not happy doing what you are doing then move on. When you do what you love you will never work again. Don’t compete, be inspired!
LADY GAGA’S HAIR BOW IS SO ICONIC, CAN YOU TELL US THE STORY BEHIND THE LOOK? DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING DURING YOUR TIME AT TONI&GUY HAIRDRESSING THAT PREPARED YOU FOR LIFE AS A CELEBRITY HAIRDRESSER AND LUXURY HAIR ACCESSORY DESIGNER? TONI&GUY taught me how to be a freestyle hair artist! They taught me about structure client relations and how to be a team player. They opened my eyes to a whole new world of hairdressing and creativity.
WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM WHEN CREATING PIECES FOR YOUR LUXURY HAIR ACCESSORY LINE?
I’m inspired by emotions, music, fashion designers, travel and most of all, different cultures. When starting a new piece, I turn on some loud music, pull out my mood board and get to work. All my work has a lot of meaning and feeling behind it. Each finished product is like a story waiting to be told.
CAN YOU NAME ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS TO WORK WITH AND WHY?
At the moment I have 2 favorite artists that I work with and one is Leona Lewis. I love her personality and her voice is on point all the time. She is a risk taker and a girls girl. KAYA is a new upcoming artist. She is very young with an old soul. A true fashionista with an edge. Both artists have been big supporters of my Jewelry.
I had several concepts in mind for her and the idea of a bow made of hair was one that she was interested in using for the video. Gaga wanted a bow that had more of a Hello Kitty shape and so together, we modified the original idea and created the iconic hair bow seen in the video. Gaga Loved it so much she ended up making it her signature look after the shoot and that’s how it became an Iconic world wide trend.
IS THERE A HAIR TOOL OR PRODUCT THAT YOU JUST CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
I can not live with out my ceramic root straightner by Kiss. Along with TONI&GUY Dry Shampoo from the Hair Meet Wardrobe line!!
WHAT HAIR TRENDS SHOULD WE EXPECT TO SEE THIS SUMMER?
The trends I expect to see this summer are more wet finished hair. Sculpted curls, wet looking hair styles. Cindy Crawford 90’s Long Bobs looks with some chunky highlights; with a modern finish.
WHERE CAN WE PURCHASE YOUR GORGEOUS HAIR ACCESSORIES?
You can purchase them online at shoptoniguy.com or patriciamorales.com I am also about to launch in Japan this Spring!
IF YOU COULD IMPART A FEW WORDS OF WISDOM TO FUTURE HAIRDRESSERS, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM ABOUT THE INDUSTRY? Dream big, have a strong stomach! Get ready for a roller coaster ride!

My name is Sharayah Lee and I am the National Cosmetic Director for TONI&GUY USA. I was recently given a once in a lifetime opportunity, by TONI&GUY and the new manufacturers of TIGI Cosmetics, to travel out to Hollywood to attend the Makeup Artists and Hairstylist Guild Awards. This is like the Screen Actors Guild awards for makeup artists and hairstylists. I flew in to LAX and was whisked off to the Ritz Carlton Hotel to get ready for the awards. After making myself red carpet ready I was met outside in a limo by Debbie, Zak and Caroline and was headed to the show. The awards were held at Paramount Studios and TIGI Cosmetics was one of the official sponsors. We met the new team behind TIGI Cosmetics for cocktails, Matt Clifton, Krystle Brandl and their head of PR Kara Bosworth - who looked familiar. Turns out she just happens to be the daughter of Jena from The Real Housewives of Orange County!! After a fun night and a huge goody bag later it was back to reality and off to LAX for my flight home. Thanks again TONI&GUY and TIGI Cosmetics for this amazing opportunity.
