UNDERSTANDING YOUR TYRE
HOW TO READ THE SIDEWALL
This is the area of extra-thick rubber that runs from the bead to the tread and gives your tyre its lateral stability. It’s also where you’ll find all of the manufacturer information about your tyre, but what does a number such as 120/70 ZR17 M/C (58W) actually mean? Here’s a little guide to understanding these markings:
This number indicates the tyre’s section nominal width, measured in millimeters from sidewall to sidewall. In this case 120mm. Note: the actual physical width of the tyre on the rim can differ from the nominal width.
This number indicates the tyre’s aspect ratio or height expressed as a percentage of its width. In this case the aspect ratio is 70% of the 120mm width, making it 84mm.
On a sports bike tyre these letters are usually “ZR”. The “Z” indicates the speed rating of the tyre, which in this case means it is rated above 240kph/149mph. The “R” denotes that the tyre is of radial type construction. The “17″ denotes that the tyre is 17 inches in diameter whilst “M/C” means the tyre is for a motorcycle.
LOAD INDEX & SPEED RATING
The ‘58W’ indicates the load and speed indexes of the tyre and should always be looked at together when you buy a new tyre. In this case the ’58’ denotes that the tyre is rated for a maximum carrying weight of 236kg at maximum pressure. The “W” represents the maximum speed for the tyre when it is correctly inflated and being used under load, in this case 270km/h. Please remember however that when buying new tyres that you match the speed rating with the speed capabilities of your motorcycle, if exceeded, this risks tyre failure, hence you should always replace a tyre with one of at least the same speed rating so that you don’t reduce the speed capability of your bike.

I INTERMEDIATE-HARD
Designed to offer performance in a wide variety of terrains, the Geomax MX53 excels in hard-packed track conditions while also offering greater versatility in intermediate riding conditions.
The front tyre has been redesigned with a taller profile to offer a larger contact patch, providing gentler handling, a higher lean angle and better maneuverability.
A horseshoe pattern of blocks on the front tyre reduces the stiffness in the center to offer a greater ride. The unique pattern also grabs the dirt to provide better braking grip.
MX53 front tyre blocks are 1mm higher and have been redistributed to give riders better steering feel and more biting edges.
Block-In-A-Block technology has been added to the front tyre of the MX53 in order to aid in linear tracking and improved steering.
• The altered Block-In-A-Block shape on the rear tyre allows for added flex in the knob to enhance grip while providing stability and slide control.
• Front and rear tyres include tie bars between select knobs to reduce flex at the base of the knobs, improving durability.

MULTI TREAD (MT) TECHNOLOGY is our latest innovation. Years of success in global Superbike & Endurance racing have resulted in the development of a pioneering multi compound, which is transferred to many of our Sportmax street & track products. The central traction compound contacts the road when the motorcycle is upright. It uses a tougher cooler running compound that maintains straight-line stability, traction, braking and most importantly longer tread life. The lateral compound that contacts the road when the motorcycle is leaning over incorporates a rubber compound specifically developed to enhance grip at maximum lean angles.
JOINTLESS BELT (JLB) CONSTRUCTION uses cord density engineering technologies to deliver more linear steering properties, improved rider feedback, and top class high-speed stability. Additional benefits include more subtle shock absorption for enhanced riding comfort on longer rides.

CARCASS TENSION CONTROL SYSTEM
Many of our front and rear tyre constructions use a Carcass Tension Control System (CTCS) to control carcass stress distribution. This optimises the tension in different areas of the casing, improving cornering stability, straight-line traction and rider feedback so that you can ride with confidence.
