(1) is the width of a tyre shown in millimeter(mm).
(2) is an aspect ratio, and in this example means that the height of the tyre is 70% of its width.
(3) is the diameter of the wheel shown in inches.
(4) is a load index, not the actual load weight. The higher the index, the heavier the allowable load.
(5) is the maximum speed rating represented by letters: "S" up to 112mph, "H" up to 130mph, and "V" up to 150mph(air pressure at maximum within specifications.)
(6) is the width of the tyre in inches.
(7) is the casing strength (ply rating).
When you choose new IRC motorcycle tyres, make sure they are the right fit for your motorcycle. Double check the size and intended usage and make sure you have made the right selection.
IRC recommends you permit only specially trained persons to mount your tyres. Improper mounting can damage the tyre and your motorcycle, and could cause serious injury. Only mount front tyres on the front and rear tyres on the rear of your motorcycle. Never mount anything other than motorcycle tyres on motorcycle wheels. Whenever possible, match front and rear tyres for maximum performance and handling. A new tube (if required) and rim band should also be installed at the same time as the tyre. After proper tyre selection, prepare the rim for mounting and clean and lubricate the tyre bead. If you are mounting a directional tyre, mount in the direction of the arrow. Seat the bead by inflating to half pressure. Rotate the tyre to make sure it is seated properly. If it is not seated properly, remove the tyre and re-mount. We do not recommend the use of rubber "Doughnuts" to help bead seating. If the tyre has a tube, deflate, and then re-inflate the tube after the bead has seated to eliminate wrinkles and folds. Inflate to recommended pressure and re-inspect for correct seating and alignment. Check pressure at regular intervals and keep tyre properly inflated. DO NOT exceed recommended pressure. (found on the sidewall)
Fitting of tyres to a motorcycle should be in accordance with what is written in the owner’s manual. IRC recommends a break-in period of 100-150 miles before subjecting the tyre to maximum power and use.
Continuously inspect your tyres for proper wear. Tyres with only 1/32” of tread left (about 0.8mm) are worn beyond safe tolerances and should be replaced as soon as possible. Keep tread clean by brushing out rocks, gravel, dirt, etc. whenever possible.
If you have to store your motorcycle or set of tyres for an extended period, store in a cool, dark place. Light and heat will cause tyres to degrade more rapidly. Never allow oil or gasoline to contaminate your tyre; wipe off any spills quickly and completely.
Small tread area punctures can be repaired by qualified tyre repair shops or motorcycle shops. The repairer is solely responsible for the repair and any instructions to the repaired tyre user. IRC does not recommend the repair of the tube-type motorcycle tyre and also the tube. A tubeless tyre with below situations can not be repaired.
- A puncture in the sidewall.
- Separation of any components. (Tread, plies etc.)
- The size of the puncture is larger than 1/4 inch.
- Damage to ply cord.
- Damage to bead.
- Cracks.
