WEEK 12 WHAT'S NEW

Team of the Week: Auburn

Quote of the Week

Auburn defeated top-ranked Georgia, 40-17, in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Trailing 7-0, Auburn answered on its first possession with kicker Daniel Carlson’s 54-yarder, the third-longest of his career. Carlson’s second field goal pulled Auburn within 7-6 after the first quarter. Auburn took the lead on Carlson’s third field goal with 12:03 remaining in the first half. In the second half, Darrell Williams recovered a fumbled Georgia punt, giving Auburn the ball on the Bulldogs’ 23-yard line. Stidham scored on a seven-yard keeper putting Auburn up 23-7. Auburn converted on another short field, scoring in two plays on a 32-yard screen from Stidham to Davis, making it 30 unanswered points.

The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes dominated No. 3 Notre Dame 41-8. Miami Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz tipped his hat to his team’s resiliency: “I think the credit has to go to our players,” Diaz said. “We have a lot of respect for them, but we feel like we are pretty good ourselves and I think we presented some things to them that they haven’t seen.”

This Week in College Football History

Nov. 12, 1994, No. 17 USC def. No. 13 Arizona, 45-28, Los Angeles

Behind 2014 College Football Hall of Fame inductee and 1994 National Scholar-Athlete lineman Tony Boselli, Trojans quarterback Rob Johnson tore apart a Wildcats defense led by Hall of Famer Tedy Bruschi. Johnson and Arizona quarterback Danny White each threw for nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns. A late goal-line stand by the tough USC defense led to a 98-yard scoring drive to give Hall of Fame coach John Robinson’s Trojans the 45-28 victory.

FIESTA BOWL

FACTS Fiesta Bowl History

The 2007 Fiesta Bowl is one of the most memorable and improbable games in college football history. Boise State, showing plenty of heart and resilience, used a series of trick plays to upset Big 12 Conference champion Oklahoma, 43-42, in overtime in the first college football game ever played at University of Phoenix Stadium. Boise State jumped out to a 14-0 lead and held a 28-10 lead midway through the third quarter. The Sooners came back to tie the game with 1:26 to play. Oklahoma took just one play in overtime to take the lead, with a 25-yard run by Adrian Peterson. The Broncos needed six plays, scoring on a halfback pass on fourth-down from Vinny Perretta to Derek Schouman. With three wide receivers lined up to the right, quarterback Jared Zabransky pumped that direction then handed the ball behind his back to tailback Ian Johnson, who raced untouched into the end zone.
