2020 - Week 10 COLLEGE FOOTBALL
INSIDER | 2020 | WEEK 10
Quote of the week “I know we were three-touchdown underdogs, but everybody on this team knew going into the game that we had a chance and we had a good chance.” - Michigan State Quarterback Rocky Lombardi after upsetting No. 13 Michigan, 27-24
TEAM TO WATCH:
The Pac-12 Conference This weekend marks the beginning of the Pac-12 season and several teams look to fight for a College Football Playoff spot. Oregon and USC are predicted to finish atop the North and South, respectively, and teams like California and Arizona State look to fight for Pac-12 supremacy. In addition to the shortened season, the conference will look plenty different this season. Washington, Washington State and Colorado all have new head coaches. Oregon and California could see new offenses thanks to new offensive coordinators and only four teams (USC, Arizona State, UCLA and Cal) return starting quarterbacks. The conference will also kick off at a new time this season with Arizona State at No. 20 USC set for 10 am (MST) on FOX this weekend. The new schedule has games staggered from 10 am – 8:30 pm, providing fans a full day of Pac-12 football.
TEAM OF THE WEEK:
West Virginia
The Mountaineers showed why they have the topranked defense in the Big 12, holding Kansas State to 225 total yards, including 73 after halftime, on their way to a 37-10 victory. Quarterback Jarret Doege threw two touchdowns, running back Leddie Brown rushed for 102 yards and a score and linebacker Dylan Tonkery returned an interception for a touchdown. Kansas State was on a four-game win streak entering the contest and sat atop the Big 12 standings. The West Virginia defense forced freshman quarterback Will Howard into three interceptions and held the Wildcats offense scoreless in the second half. West Virginia will look to take momentum to Austin, Texas, for a duel with No. 22 Texas on Saturday. The Mountaineers have won their last two trips to Austin. Kickoff is set for 10 am (MST) on ABC.

GOLDEN HISTORY:
1999 – FIESTA BOWL’S RECORD CROWD On Monday, January 4, 1999, a Fiesta Bowl record 80,470 college football fans watched in person as Tennessee battled Florida State for the National Championship.
ALUMNI HIGHLIGHT:
Justin Fields
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been lighting it up for the Buckeyes through the first two games of the season. Fields has amassed 594 yards on an 87.3 completion percentage and has six touchdowns with no interceptions. Fields sits at third in the Heisman Trophy race, according to ESPN, and his performance against Penn State helped his campaign. The quarterback was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 318 yards, four touchdowns and contributing to Ohio State’s 526 total yards. In 2019, Fields led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl. Fields threw for 320 yards with 30 completions and a touchdown against Clemson in a matchup that was named ESPN’s best college game of the 2019-20 season.
Tennessee’s Peerless Price won the game for the Volunteers and lifted them to their second National Championship and a 13-0 record. The senior wide receiver caught four passes for a career-high 199 yards, including a 79-yard game-clinching touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, to lead the Volunteers to a 23-16 victory. The first touchdown was set up by a 76-yard pass from Volunteer quarterback Tee Martin to Price to take the ball to Florida State’s 12-yard line. After a scoreless third quarter, Martin threw a perfect pass down the right sideline that Price caught and ran the distance for a 79-yard touchdown reception. Price set Fiesta Bowl records for longest reception (79 yards) and highest average per catch (49.7 yards). He was named the offensive player of the game, while Tennessee cornerback Dwayne Goodrich was honored with the defensive player of the game thanks to a pick-six.
