INSIDER | 2020 | WEEK 2
Quote of the week “I’m happy to get my first win under my belt. I was the longest-tenured 0-1 football coach in the country, so I had to get that bad taste out of my mouth.” - Memphis Head Coach Ryan Silverfield on getting his first win as head coach.
team TO WATCH: Clemson The reigning PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl champions kick off the season on the road at Wake Forest on Saturday and look to establish themselves as college football’s best team. The Tigers are ready to showcase their talent with a league-high five All-ACC preseason firstteam selections, headlined by Preseason Player of the Year, junior quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence was named the 2019 PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl Offensive Player of the Game after throwing for 259 yards and two TDs and adding a memorable 67-yard touchdown run. Running back Travis Etienne is another formidable returner as the senior looks to land ACC Player of the Year for the third straight season. Clemson has a historical advantage heading into the matchup, having won 11-straight meetings against the Demon Deacons. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm AZ Time on ABC.
team of the week: BYU BYU closed out the first weekend of college football in dominating fashion with a 55-3 win over Navy. In the first matchup between the two schools since 1989, BYU led in virtually every aspect of the game on its way to the most lopsided victory of Week 1. Running back Tyler Allgeier led the way for the Cougars with 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 9.4 yards per carry. Quarterback Zach Wilson added 232 yards on 13 completions and two touchdowns before sitting out the fourth quarter. BYU will look to build on its almost flawless performance when it takes on another service academy at Army on September 19. The Cougars open their home schedule the following week when Troy travels to Provo for a September 26 contest.
