Quote of the week “Playing against [Oklahoma State] for two years, losing to them for two years, I definitely wanted this one for sure…We’re a really good team, and credit to the defense. They pitched a shutout against a really, really good Oklahoma State team.” - Kansas State quarterback Will Howard on the Wildcats’ 48-0 win over then-No. 9 Oklahoma State
TEAM TO WATCH:
ALABAMA
It’s College Football Playoff crunch time, and Nick Saban’s No. 6 Alabama is in an unfamiliar spot on the outside looking in on the CFP Top 5. Clemson is in a good place at No. 4 in the first CFP Rankings of the season with a relatively easy remaining schedule, while No. 5 Michigan still must play No. 16 Illinois and No. 2 Ohio State. Alabama’s next two games against SEC West rivals No. 10 LSU and No. 11 Ole Miss are must-wins for the Tide to keep playoff hopes alive and to stay in front for the SEC West title. Alabama will head to Tiger Stadium coming off a bye week preceded by an impressive 30-6 win over then-No. 24 Mississippi State. The result of its next two games will have major CFP implications— making the Tide a squad to keep an eye on the rest of the year.
TEAM OF THE WEEK:
Notre Dame Last year’s Fiesta Bowl runner-up got a big win over then-No. 16 Syracuse on Saturday, beating the Orange on the road 41-24. Notre Dame struck first on Brandon Joseph’s 29-yard pick-six at the beginning of the game. The game remained relatively close through three quarters, with Syracuse punching in a TD at the end of Q3 to make it a one-possession game at 24-17. The Irish then outscored the Orange 17-7 in the fourth quarter to seal the win and improve to 5-3 on the year. The Irish outproduced Syracuse, with 362 total yards compared to the Orange’s 286. The Irish’s success was largely thanks to its ground game, with more than 80% of the game’s total rushing yards attributed to Notre Dame. The Irish are one win away from bowl eligibility. Their next matchup is a tough one against No. 5 Clemson, on November 5 at 4:30 p.m. PHX.

Top-ranked Tennessee looks for its first victory over Georgia since 2016. The winner will sit atop the SEC East and could very well hold the No. 1 ranking for the rest of the regular season. If Tennessee wins, it will become the first team since 2019’s National Champion LSU squad to beat both Alabama and Georgia in the same season. The Vols will travel south to Athens to take on the defending champs, who want to reclaim their No. 1 standing. The betting line opened with Georgia as a nine-point favorite. ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast live from Athens leading up to a 12:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS.

ALUMNI HIGHLIGHT:
Travis Etienne Jr.
The Jacksonville Jaguars traded running back James Robinson to the Jets last week, leaving Travis Etienne as the go-to in the Jags backfield. Etienne had his biggest game of his NFL career on Sunday, rushing for 156 yards and a touchdown in Jacksonville’s tough 21-17 loss to Denver in London. After reaching 85 rushing yards in the first half, Etienne amassed the most rushing yards through three career starts in Jags history. Etienne, a 2019 Fiesta Bowl alum, is a dynamic back out of Clemson. In the Fiesta Bowl, he posted three receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 36 yards and one TD. He was a first-round pick for the Jags in 2021 but didn’t play due to injury—now, he has the chance to help the Jaguars turn their season around. Jacksonville hosts the Raiders on Sunday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m. MT.
Big NEWS! The Guaranteed Rate Bowl features Bowl Season’s only Big Ten vs. Big 12 matchup. As we eagerly await the Dec. 27 kickoff, we’re bringing you weekly game highlights, player reports, and other updates from the two conferences. Here’s the BIG news for week 10:
Big Ten
Big 12
• In the CFP’s first rankings of the year, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 5 Michigan, No. 15 Penn State and No. 16 Illinois make appearances.
• In the first CFP Poll of the season, No. 7 TCU, No. 13 K-State, No.18 Oklahoma State and No. 24 Texas make appearances.
• Of the six FBS teams that remain undefeated, two are from the Big Ten: Michigan and Ohio State. Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Penn State and Illinois are all bowl eligible.
• TCU is one of the six FBS teams that remain undefeated.
• Michigan improved to 8-0 for the second time under head coach Jim Harbaugh and the first since 2016. The Wolverines improved to 72-38-5 all-time against Michigan State on Saturday, including a 39-29-2 mark since the two teams began playing for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in 1953.
• TCU head coach Sonny Dykes is the first head coach in conference history to start 8-0 in his first season in the conference. The Horned Frogs are 8-0 for the fifth time in 20 seasons, with only Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Boise State doing so more often in the same span.
• Led by running back Chase Brown, Illinois ranks sixth nationally in relative rushing offense and 18th in the country in relative total offense. Brown leads the nation with 1,208 rushing yards this season, with 707 of those yards coming after contact. He also ranks second in the nation in all-purpose yards (1,328) without having return duties.
• The Big 12 is the only conference in which 80 percent of teams have a .500 or better record. The Big 12 and SEC are the only conferences in which every team has at least three wins.

WEEK 10
MORE THAN JUST A GAME ® 2002 FIESTA BOWL Oregon and Colorado have been Pac-12 Conference foes for more than a decade — a rivalry that gets its next installment on November 5, when the No. 8 Ducks face the Buffaloes in Boulder. Before Colorado joined the conference, still the Pac-10 at the time, in 2010, its previous meeting against Oregon was the 2002 Fiesta Bowl. Both teams entered that game having narrowly missed the BCS National Championship Game, whose participants were a point of contention among many in college football. Oregon was ranked No. 2 in the AP and Coaches Polls before bowl season, with Colorado close behind at No. 3. But it was Miami and Nebraska that got the championship nod thanks to a BCS that had a different take on the rankings, designating Oregon the number four team in the country. The 2002 Fiesta Bowl was therefore dubbed the “Just in Case National Title Game” by the many who thought Oregon and Colorado, not Miami and Nebraska, to be the two best teams in the country. If Nebraska managed to upset Miami, it was still possible for the Fiesta Bowl victor to claim the national title. With a final score of 38-16 Oregon, the Ducks walked away as Fiesta Bowl victors and narrowly missed out on being voted National Champion. Though it was the last game of his college career, Oregon QB Joey Harrington credits the Fiesta Bowl with taking Oregon football to the high-level program we know it as today—a program that has the chance to return to the Fiesta Bowl this season following the 20th anniversary of its win over Colorado.
WEEK 10
FIESTA BOWL CHARITIES BUILDS PLAYGROUND IN FORT MOHAVE In partnership with BHHS Legacy Foundation, PNC Bank and Lerner & Rowe Gives Back, Fiesta Bowl Charities and KABOOM! built an innovative, 2,000 square foot playground and multi-purpose sport court alongside a football field previously installed by Fiesta Bowl Charities. Located at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Colorado River’s Fort Mohave Clubhouse, it is the 12th site for a Fiesta Bowl Charities playground legacy project over the last five years and Fort Mohave’s first-ever community play space. “Having dreamed for such a long time about having a dedicated space for Fort Mohave kids, and then having it come to fruition with a giant field, playground and sport court is beyond our wildest dreams,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of the Colorado River CEO Autumn Boyle-Robinson. “We see firsthand every day how important having a safe place to play is for kids, and without a doubt I know that this sports complex will change lives.” Earlier this year, Fort Mohave youth were asked to draw their dream playground. Their artwork was collected by project organizers and incorporated into the design process. Last weekend, more than 100 volunteers came together to make those dreams a reality as they spent three days building the playground and sport court from the ground up. The result? No more 20-minute drive to Bullhead City to get to a playground—the Fort Mohave community now has its own brand-new, customized play space straight from the imaginations of the more than 800 kids who will use it. Given the distance between Fort Mohave families and the nearest community playground, a complex like the one built last weekend has always been a wish for this community. It will allow Fort Mohave children to be active, healthy, and gives them access to valuable social-emotional learning opportunities and the chance to build positive relationships with other youth.
