WEEK 8 WHAT'S NEW

Team of the Week: Syracuse

The Syracuse Orange ended No. 2 Clemson's 11-game win streak with a stunning 2724 victory, pulling off one of the biggest upsets in program history. Junior quarterback Eric Dungey threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns and added 21 carries for 61 yards, accounting for 339 of the Orange's 440 total yards. Led by Dungey, Syracuse opened the game with a 10-play scoring drive to set the tone at 7-0. The Orange racked up 270 yards in the first half against a Clemson defense that entered the game giving up only 264 total yards per game. With the score tied at 24-24 going into the fourth quarter, Dungey led the clinching drive - a 16-play, six-minute march to set up Cole Murphy's 30-yard game-winning field goal.

Quote of the Week

Syracuse defeated No. 2 Clemson 27-24, pulling off one of the biggest upsets in program history. Syracuse Head Coach Dino Babers reflected on the team’s win:

Week 8 Bowl Projections CBS: USC vs. Oklahoma State Sports Illustrated: Ohio State vs. USC SB Nation: Stanford vs. Wisconsin ESPN: Bonagura | USC vs. Oklahoma ESPN: Hale | Stanford vs. Wisconsin USA Today: USC vs. Central Florida CBS: North Texas vs. Arizona Sports Illustrated: Texas Tech vs. Utah SB Nation: Kansas State vs. Cal ESPN: Bonagura | Texas Tech vs. Cal ESPN: Hale | Kansas State vs. Arizona USA Today: Kansas State vs. Arizona

It's something that they will tell their sons and their daughters, and then they'll tell their grandsons and their granddaughters. It will be one of those deals when it's 'No, grandpa not the story about how you beat Clemson at the Loud House.' And they'll have to sit there and listen to it again. It's truly one of those moments that you coach for. I've had those moments, but to be able to share a moment like that with these young men is really special and really means a lot to me. I'm really proud of them. Click here for the full story.

FIESTA BOWL

FACTS Fiesta Bowl History

During the inaugural Fiesta Bowl in 1971, Arizona State quarterback Danny White connected with Calvin Demery for a 21-yard pass for the first touchdown in Fiesta Bowl history. The Sun Devils won the game, 45-38, and postseason college football was well on its way to becoming a staple in Arizona. Although just a one-year-old at the time, current Vanderbilt Head Coach Derek Mason can recall the early memory as a boy growing up in Phoenix. “I was very young but my uncle Calvin played in that game under Coach Kush,” said Mason. “You remember it as a child and it seems so big. Then to come home and have a chance to coach in the Fiesta Bowl was surreal.” Read the full story here.
