WEEK 10 // 2024

QUOTE OF THE WEEK QUOTE THE WEEK

“We’re just really humbled to get a win, and we probably put on a clinic on how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.”

- SMU Head Coach Rhett Lashlee after a thrilling overtime one-point 28-27 victory over Duke

TEXAS A&M

Texas A&M also advanced four spots in the AP Poll after defeating No. 8 LSU, 38-23. The No. 10 Aggies are the only remaining undefeated team in SEC league play.

TEAM TO WATCH TEAM of the week NOTRE DAME

No. 8 Notre Dame advanced four spots in the Week 10 AP Poll after capitalizing on turnovers from previously unbeaten No. 24 Navy in a 51-14 victory.

Navy had not turned the ball over in five straight games entering last Saturday’s matchup but finished with six turnovers. Five were fumbles, including two muffed punts and three missed exchanges on option plays.

Notre Dame led 31-7 at halftime. Midway through the third quarter, a 37-yard touchdown throw from Riley Leonard to Beaux Collins solidified its lead to 38-14. Three plays later, Navy fumbled near its own goal line and Notre Dame’s Jaylen Sneed recovered for a touchdown.

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Love scored on runs of 64 and 2 yards. Leonard and the Fighting Irish’s offense have scored at least 30 points in four straight games.

The 7-1 Fighting Irish have a bye week, then host Florida State on Saturday, November 9.

LSU held all the momentum early and led 17-7 at half. Trailing by 10 points in the third quarter, Head Coach Mike Elko inserted Marcel Reed at quarterback in search of a spark.

And a spark he was – recording three second-half touchdowns on the ground. Reed’s 62 yards on nine carries contributed to a 242-yard rushing performance from the Aggies.

With BJ Meyers two key interceptions and the insertion of Reed, the Aggies outscored the Tigers 24-6 in the second half to remain unbeaten in the SEC.

The Aggies are looking to earn their eighth straight win over South Carolina on Saturday, November 2, on ABC at 4:30 p.m. PHX.

GAME OF THE WEEK

OHIO STATE AT #3 PENN STATE

This weekend, Big Ten rivals will meet in a top-four matchup when No. 4 Ohio State travels to No. 3 Penn State.

Ohio State (6-1) is one point away from being undefeated after a loss at Oregon three weeks ago. The Buckeyes responded with a narrow 27-24 victory over Nebraska at home last weekend. Will Howard threw three touchdown passes, and a late interception by Jordan Hancock with 1:16 left sealed the win.

Penn State moved to 7-0 with a win at Wisconsin but lost starting quarterback Drew Allar to an injury in the process. Backup Beau Pribula was solid off the bench, going 11-of-13 for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Allar’s availability is still unknown, and Penn State’s offense is up against a stiff Ohio State defense which ranks amongst the top four in FBS for total defense and scoring defense.

Kickoff is Saturday, November 2, at 9:00 a.m. PHX on FOX.

highlight alumni

Washington Commanders wide receiver Noah Brown made possibly one of the most watched and most important catches of his career last weekend.

With time expired, quarterback Jayden Daniels scrambled before launching a Hail Mary into the end zone. The pass tipped off the hands of Chicago Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson short of the goal line and into the waiting arms of Brown, who was in the end zone, for a 52-yard touchdown that gave the Commanders an improbable 18-15 victory. The win improved the Commanders to 6-2 and snapped the Bears’ three-game winning streak.

Brown started for Ohio State in the 2016 CFP Semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl. Finishing the game with two receptions for 17 yards, Brown tied for the team lead with seven receiving touchdowns that season before entering the NFL Draft.

The Commanders travel to the New York Giants on Sunday, November 3, on FOX at 11:00 a.m. PHX.

notable performances NOAH BROWN

Cooper Legas - Tulsa

Tulsa’s backup quarterback Cooper Legas threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns to lead a comeback from a 28-point halftime deficit to beat UTSA, 46-45. Tulsa was down 42-17 with 5:30 left in the third quarter, when Legas threw a 74-yard pass to Kamdyn Benjamin for the first of four second-half touchdowns.

Legas also led the Golden Hurricane on the ground with 46 rushing yards, including 33 yards on a run that helped set up a Tulsa field goal as part of its comeback.

Legas was named AP National Player of the Week for leading a 39-point second half.

Jarquez Hunter – Auburn

In Auburn’s first SEC win of the season, Jarquez Hunter carried the ball 23 times for an explosive 278 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the Tigers’ 24-10 victory over Auburn.

He averaged 12.1 yards per attempt. Not surprisingly, Hunter’s rushing total was a career high and so was his number of carries.

The SEC Offensive Player of the Week logged the fourthhighest single-game rushing performance in Auburn history and his 278 yards are the most by an FBS player this season. For the season, Hunter has totaled 863 rushing yards, which leads the SEC, and five touchdowns.

Jay Ajayi Reflects on 2014 Fiesta Bowl Victory

For 10 years, Jay Ajayi’s 2014 season has sat at the top of Boise State’s record books. Ajayi’s junior season in 2014 is one to remember. Before declaring for the 2015 NFL Draft, Ajayi’s AllAmerican season concluded in the 44th annual Fiesta Bowl, where Boise State defeated Arizona, 38-30.

The Broncos, ranked 20th, jumped on the No. 10 Wildcats by putting up three touchdowns on their first three drives. Ajayi, on his first carry of the game and Boise State’s fourth play from scrimmage, burst through the middle untouched for a 56-yard touchdown.

Taking a page out of the 2006-07 Boise State team’s Fiesta Bowl playbook, Ajayi took the handoff from Grant Hedrick on the Statue of Liberty play and raced up the left sideline, breaking a tackle and stiff-arming an Arizona defender on his way to his second touchdown of the game.
