WEEK 12 WHAT’S NEW TEAM OF THE WEEK: LSU
QUOTE OF THE WEEK “We won today because we have unbelievable players, unbelievable coaches, and an unbelievable culture. That was one of the best college football environments I have ever seen.” Minnesota Head Coach P.J. TEAM TO WATCH: BAYLOR As one of seven undefeated teams, No. 13 Baylor has been thrust into the national spotlight, leading the Big 12 with a 6-0 record (9-0 overall). In what ended up a thrilling Big 12 matchup, Baylor overcame a 9-0 halftime deficit to defeat TCU in triple-overtime, 29-23, last Saturday. Redshirt freshman kicker John Mayers nailed a career-long 51-yard field goal to send the game in overtime. Senior wide receiver Denzel Mims hauled in two touchdown passes, including the four-yard game winner to keep the undefeated season alive. This weekend, the Bears will host top-10 Oklahoma in a primetime national broadcast matchup on ABC at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are vying for a spot in the Big 12 Championship, where we could see another Bears vs. Sooners matchup on December 7.
In one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, No. 1 LSU snapped No. 5 Alabama’s 31-game home winning streak, 46-41. Under the national spotlight, the Tigers led 33-13 at the half and never trailed the Tide due to their persistent offensive efficiency. Heisman frontrunner senior quarterback Joe Burrow finished 31-of-39 passing with three passing touchdowns. Junior running back Clyde EdwardsHelaire had himself a day with three touchdowns and a team-high nine receptions, the most by an SEC runningback since Todd Gurley in 2013. With their fourth top-10 victory of the season, the Tigers lead the SEC West and control their destiny to the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff. LSU returns to action this weekend at Ole Miss with a 5 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.
