We haven’t even scratched the surface in what we could do on either side of the ball. Believe in each other and play harder.

The Trojans increased their record to 2-0 after last weekend’s 45-20 win over Stanford. After losing starting quarterback JT Daniels to a season-ending injury in the first game, USC turned to Scottsdale native Kedon Slovis for his chance to shine. A true freshman, Slovis had a record-breaking performance against the No. 23 Cardinal, passing for 377 yards and three touchdowns. After jumping into the rankings, the Trojans are looking for Slovis to keep the momentum going when they play BYU on Sept. 14 before heading back into conference play. Can the young quarterback lead the Trojans to a winning season? Only time will tell.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: MARYLAND All eyes are on Maryland after another blowout win in Week 2 when the Terrapins beat No. 21 Syracuse, 63-20. The Terrapins’ strong performances have them ranked for the first time since 2013. New head coach Mike Locksley is putting his offensive creativity to good use. The Terps have scored 142 points in the first two games. Maryland also has a new starting quarterback in Virginia Tech graduate transfer Josh Jackson, who threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns. Locksley is proving to be a dominant offensive force and for the Terps to keep their momentum going, they must not look past Temple this week with No. 13 Penn State on the horizon.

HEISMAN WATCH If the 2019 Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP, Joe Burrow, didn’t turn your head after Week 1, he has now. The LSU quarterback threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns during last weekend’s 45-38 win against No. 9 Texas. His performance has launched him into Heisman consideration, and rightfully so. At 6-foot-4, 216 pounds, Burrow had been taking advantage of LSU’s new passingfocused offense this season. During the Tigers’ Week 1 win against Georgia Southern, the senior tied the school record of five passing touchdowns. LSU last had a player win the Heisman Trophy in 1959. Could Burrow be the Tigers’ next winner for the first time in 60 years? Coming up, the Tigers host Northwestern State and start conference play the following week.
