NEWS AND NOTES BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING DRIVE Fiesta Bowl Charities worked along side Blue Cross Blue Shield Arizona for Back to School Clothing Drives during the month of July. Volunteers from the Fiesta Bowl teamed up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona to run the shoe stations. Many of the children served are foster youth and have never owned a new pair of shoes or been fitted for shoes before. More than 140 schools and over 5,000 elementary school students attened the events at Grand Canyon University and Luke Air Force Base with the Fiesta Bowl joining volunteers from over 30 companies and organizations.
VOLUNTEER KICKOFF PARTY The 2019-20 Volunteer Kickoff Party is right around the corner, as we get ready for a big season! On Saturday, September 21, the Ellie and Michael Ziegler Fiesta Bowl Museum will play host to current and soon-to-be volunteers, from 9-11:30 am. There will be free food, football, games and giveaways. To get a head start, complete the mandatory Volunteer Background Check Here. If you or someone you know is planning to volunteer during the season, head to the Kickoff Party to learn about and sign up for the exciting season of opportunities.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR 2019 DESERT FINANCIAL FIESTA BOWL PARADE PRESENTED BY CHEEZ-IT ® The Fiesta Bowl is now accepting applications for community groups to be an entry in the 2019 Desert Financial Fiesta Bowl Parade presented by Cheez-It®. Every year, thousands of people from every walk of life come together with floats, balloons, animals and more join in on the pageantry. The Fiesta Bowl Parade invites and encourages groups to submit an application to participate in the parade. In order to participate, the application must be completed by September 20, 2019.

Groups from Arizona, California, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and the competing universities in the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl and Cheez-It® Bowl create unique floats, march in high school and university bands, celebrate unique displays, drive specialty cars, perform and join more than 100,000 fans to take part in the experience.

fiesta bowl spotlight VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: AMANDA HOPE RAINBOW ANGELS Fiesta Bowl Charities has an exciting volunteer opportunity! We are teaming up with Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels to support children with pediatric cancer in our community!
BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ARIZONA VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: DAVE DORWARD As committee chair, Dorward is responsible for leading the fundraising and participation efforts of the committee’s 120 active members and close to 300 life members. Last year, the committee raised $3 million, worked diligently to help operate more than 10 events and the helped the Fiesta Bowl organization contribute $2.5 million to local Arizona non-profits. “We are so much more than just a (college football) bowl organization,” said Dorward. “How we impact Arizona economically and (through) the millions of dollars that we give back to teachers, charitable organizations and all of the people we touch every year.

We will be making tie blankets and “No more chemo” party bags for children who are currently in the hospital. There is the possibility we will hand deliver these items to kids in September and help celebrate those who are no longer in chemotherapy. This is a great organization doing phenomenal work and I’m thrilled we get to support them.
