news and notes VOLUNTEER KICKOFF PARTY
The 2019-20 Volunteer Kickoff Party is right around the corner, as we get ready for a big season! On Saturday, September 21, the Ellie and Michael Ziegler Fiesta Bowl Museum will play host to current and soon-to-be volunteers, from 9-11:30 am. There will be free food, football, games and giveaways. To get a head start, complete the mandatory VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK HERE. If you or someone you know is planning to volunteer during the season, head to the Kickoff Party to learn about and sign up for the exciting season of opportunities.
2019 MCLENDON MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
Earlier this month the 2019 McLendon Minority Scholarship presented by the Fiesta Bowl was awarded to Naomi Eastland, who is continuing her education at Northern Arizona University. “In our third year with the McLendon Minority Scholarship, we’ve been impressed with the talent and personal character of the individuals in the program,” stated Fiesta Bowl Executive Director Mike Nealy. “Naomi is dedicated to excellence in education and leadership, two key drivers in the Fiesta Bowl Mission as well.”

FIESTA BOWL MATCHES AMBASSADORS GIFT On April 17, the Fiesta Bowl matched the Ambassadors donation of $1,500 to the Department of Child Safety. The money went towards gift cards to give at-risk youth and those transitioning out of the foster care system and into adulthood.

volunteer opportunities BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING DRIVE
Fiesta Bowl Charities will be working along side Blue Cross Blue Shield Arizona for a Back to School Clothing Drive on Thursday, July 25. There are two time slots open for volunteers (7-10 am and 9 am-Noon) in the Fiesta Bowlsponsored shoe station. Many of the children being served are foster youth and have never owned a new pair of shoes or been fitted for shoes before. This is an opportunity to help underprivileged youth and set them up for success heading into the school year. Volunteers will be selected from a database which will be filled by the form below.

BLU E CRO S S B L U E S H I E L D A Z V O LU N T E E R S P O T L I G H T: PATRICK BA R K L E Y When the 49th Annual PlayStation Fiesta Bowl concludes on December 28, the Fiesta Bowl Chair of the Board Patrick Barkley will be front and center, as he presents the trophy to the winning coach. In addition to handing off the $1.2 million trophy before a national television audience, Barkley oversees the governance of the Board, helping lead and promote the nonprofit organization and its extensive football and charitable giving efforts. Barkley’s history with the Fiesta Bowl started more than 20 years ago, when his love of college football compelled him to volunteer in 1997.

Where Is She Now: Paige was hired to the Fiesta Bowl staff as the Team Services and Volunteer Coordinator upon completion of her internship. Her responsibilities include: volunteer management, the Ambassador program, the commemorative gift program, team services, arrivals and departures and family events during bowl week.
