Kathy Doughty is the owner and creative director of the innovative patchwork shop, Material Obsessions in Australia. Originally a self-taught quilter, Kathy’s eclectic style developed over decades of obsessive quilting aided by working closely with industry experts and designers. She is the co-author of international best sellers, Material Obsession One and Two and sole author of Making Quilts, Adding Layers, Mixing Quilt Elements and Organic Appliqué. Kathy, an American, now calls Australia home but enjoys frequent trips to the USA to teach in shops, events and guilds.
Wandering Eye is inspired by the lens of Kathy’s camera and her photos of inspiring color combinations, patterns and shapes. These visual moments are turned into sketches then transformed into textiles. Eri Kamei is an illustrator and designer living in Tokyo, Japan. She grew up drawing pictures in a town nestled in the Kobe mountains. During her time at Musashino Art University, she started working on illustration projects, becoming a freelance illustrator after graduation. Her work is mainly inspired by nature such as botanicals, flowers, animals, and daily life. She works in a wide range of fields including holding solo exhibitions, creating illustrations for textiles, book covers, stationery, and packaging.

THE COTTON RECYCLING PROCESS
1. COLLECT
Factory off-cuts and fabric waste are collected from various sources.
3. CRUSH AND SHRED
Large pieces of fabric are cut and broken down into smaller pieces. The fabric is shredded into cotton fiber.
5. WEAVE
The yarn is woven into fabric.

The fabric is sorted and separated by fabric composition in order to isolate the cotton from other materials.
4. SPIN INTO YARN
The fiber is combined with new cotton and spun into yarn.
