Centre Stage What happens when second love wins over the first? He is always smiling, always helping, always obliging, always most willing to go out of his way to make everyone comfortable with an instant smile. He never says never, he always executes tasks in the most efficient yet simple ways and is stern with none other than himself . He is tech-savvy but makes no tall claims. He reads a lot but gloats about no rhetoric philosophy. He is the ever-so-reliable, extremely approachable Library Professional in the FIIB Knowledge Resource Centre, Mr Kamal Singh Negi. All of us know him as the welcoming, bright face at the Library. A man of few but precise words, he unwinds with Sindhu Kaushik , revealing some truths about his first love, his second love and his keen interest Prof S in Psychology.
Hot, hot innovations This last fortnight was replete with intense activity on and off board. Students were busy with their exams, recruitments, summer internships and placements, while the faculty was busy with numerous meetings to plan the academic year.
Dr. Sunita Chugh
Mr. Kamal Singh Negi
Sindhu Kaushik: What's your second love? The first, we know, is your books. Kamal Singh Negi: Well, definitely, books are my passion and most certainly my first love. Having said that, I would like to add that I love my family the most. And you of course know that the second love is always much deeper, truer and more long lasting. SK: If you were to write a book, what would it be called and what would its theme be? KSN: If I were to write a book, it would be about all the people I’ve known in my life so far and the things that they do that define them. Let’s say, this book would sort of deal with General Psychology. The title of this book will be ‘Ye Zindagi’. As you know, every individual has his own story, and each one’s life offers so much learning that may be taken as an inspiration or as a moralistic learning for one’s own life. If I do start writing, it would result in a cluster of many short stories that would relate to a single theme and philosophy – a story that teaches one to live in harmony. However, the list of themes that I want to write about is endless. SK: Who is your favorite author and why? KSN: My favourite author is Mr. Shiv Khera. Although he is a great writer of international repute, he comes across as very down to earth. Every thought and idea holds immense logic and insight. He attempts to understand things differently, giving out interesting, unique perspectives. (contd on Page2)
Smiling through the seething heat, FIIB hosted the three-day ‘HR Leadership Congress India 2011’ at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi as the Business School Partner. What an awesome opportunity this was, to seek, learn and network! Meanwhile, the Sustainability Development Centre (SDC) launched a diary on green solutions to environmental hazards titled ‘What’s Your Solution?’. Such bright smiles this summer but the campus appears desolate sans the din and chatter of students scuttling around. The campus is incredulously calm – not quite what FIIB is used to. We yearn to have the students back, with interesting internship experiences to share. -Sindhu Kaushik

His famous book You Can Win is my all-time favourite. Khera has had a great impression on me. I am inspired by who he is and what he has done - he is the founder of Qualified Learning Systems Inc. USA, an Educator, a Business Consultant and a successful Entrepreneur. He is a much sought after Speaker too. He informs and inspires people to realize their true potential. His famous quote “Winners don’t do different things. They do things differently” fills me with rejuvenated energies each time I ponder over it. SK: What’s your strategy to ensure students maintain decorum in the library premises? KSN: The library of FIIB is a powerhouse of knowledge and is meant to be a quiet place for study and reading. Although we all are aware of this, there are occasions when students do not obey the rules of the library and come up with excuses for

talking aloud, especially during breaks between two exams. Depending on the severity of the violation, action is taken. At the age that students are in, one can’t take extreme steps. I try and explain it to them as amicably as possible and reason it out to them. Usually that suffices. SK: In the campus, besides the library, where do you hang out? KSN: No doubt, the best place in the FIIB campus is the . library, where knowledge is created and stored. The library is indeed the institute’s learning resource center. As a library professional, I feel proud to say that I have the privilege of a seat in Mr Kamal Singh Negi the library and to work here. Apart from the library, I spend time at the cafeteriaagain, a very attractive location at FIIB.

An SDC Enterprise The Sustainability Development Center (SDC) and the FIIB management is perpetually striving towards making the FIIB MBA experience exceptional, through simple yet myriad ways. FDP at FIIB, Prof Poornima Gupta I have been conducting research for a few years and now and I am also pursuing my PhD currently. So I wondered what this ‘FDP on Organisational Research’ would teach me, besides that which I already know! Moreover, this FDP is being conducted exclusively for us faculty, so I just couldn’t refuse and come up with excuses not to attend. And most importantly, I was brimming with curiosity to see what exactly would be taught. When I actually attended the session, I was pleasantly surprised. Earlier, I had reluctantly perused through the readings, only to realise that they were not as boring as I had expected. I have been conducting a lot research but I had never even once thought of going into the core depths of it, to understand the meaning of each activity that we perform as a part of our research. During these FDP sessions, I began to appreciate the different types of research that can be conducted, be it academic or applied research. I also got greater clarity on the concepts of constructs, phenomenon and variables better. The last session on “what theory is and what it is not” was especially very interesting, as the debate on what makes good theory and its importance is long standing. We were able to see how theory helps in research and how to ask questions that would lead to a good contribution, by either proving a theory in a particular situation or disproving it, thus adding to the body of existing knowledge. Overall, it has been extremely interesting and I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of the sessions.
Prof Poornima Gupta

What the Whack! A minister dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans. fbgjf
Saint Peter addresses this guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?” The guy replies, "I'm Joe Cohen, stockbroker, of Noo Yawk City.” Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the stockbroker, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” fjgf
The stockbroker goes into Heaven with his robe and staff, and it's the minister's turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am Joseph Snow, pastor of Saint Mary's for the last forty-three years.” Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the minister, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” "Just a minute," says the minister. "That man was a stockbroker-- he gets a silken robe and golden staff but I, a minister, only get a cotton robe and wooden staff? How can this be?” fgdfn
"Up here, we work by results," says Saint Peter. "While you preached, people slept; his clients, they prayed."
