Active participation from student clubs for Fortune Cookies was quite encouraging this month. Jaagriti Club shared very interesting content on Sustainability.
“TOP TENs” for achieving Sustainability • Eat Meat Less: The average amount of meat consumed by a person directly causes over 1.5 tons of CO2 emissions per year. Try once a meat, cut out meat! • Consume Less: Everything we consume has an impact, in terms of resources consumed during manufacture and transport. • Dress for the Season: Heating and cooling our homes account for almost half of our individual energy and emissions footprint • Give Away Your Old Stuff: Give your old, but still usable items to an authorised organisation for recycling. • Drive Less: Just imagine, if everyone could find a way to use their car half as much as they do today. This swill certainly reduce CO2 emissions by perhaps 15%. • Reward Sustainable Companies: As a customer, if you think a company isn't acting sustainably, seek out products from a competitor who better represents your values. • Resist Disposable Products: These products consume significantly more resources than their reusable alternatives. • Opt for Green Power: It's helping the industries to grow faster, and it has been successful in many countries. • Fly Less: Did you know that a single trans-Atlantic flight can emit 220 tons of CO2! • Purchase Local Products: Imagine if each area produce what it's best and most efficient at, and distribute so that people don’t have to drive for daily products.

Ankita: As an FIIBian, I have got an opportunity to participate in many activities like E-waste drive, cloth collection drive which had made me more aware towards sustainability. Devangi: Apart from participating and volunteering in many activities organized by college, I practice small initiatives like switch off lights when not needed, print on both sides of paper, etc. For me these small initiative by me can make a good difference as I try to push my friends and family to follow me in this. Ques: Out of all the sustainable practices done in our college, which one is your favourite and why? Ankita & Devangi: We both liked e-waste drive and clothes drive. We never thought that e-waste can be so hazardous to our environment, but the session by Chintan helped us to understand that. Seeing our faculty members participating in these drives was very inspiring.
