Message from Director

Fiji Fashion Week

Hello Fashionistas I am delighted to be reaching out to designers interested in showcasing at Fiji Fashion Week. As we embark on our 9th year, Fiji Fashion Week is set to bring our biggest and best show ever. Throughout the course of the week, we will bring together 24 carefully selected designers, over 40 models, a huge production crew, fashion media, photographers and bloggers and most importantly potential buyers...all to the beautiful tropical Fiji Islands. Fiji Fashion Week is proud to lay claim of being the Pacific’s premier fashion event. We have helped to build the profile of many local and international designers. This year for the first time ever, Fiji Fashion Week took the big step of participating in LA Fashion Week – taking 11 designers to showcase their collections. This really helped to put Fiji and Fiji Fashion Week on the international fashion map and we are building on this momentum by refining our shows to ensure that only the top designers are selected to showcase. We will always keep a mixture of emerging and established designers showcasing together. But from now on, it is the best of the best. Will you be one of them? I hope so!

Yours in Fashion Ellen Whippy-Knight

History of

Fiji Fashion Week Fiji Fashion Week is now in its 9th year of production. Fiji Fashion Week is the premiere fashion event in the Pacific. Our objective is to provide a platform for designers to launch and nurture their fashion designing skills for commercial gain. Many of our local designers are running successful fashion design businesses and continue to showcase in Fiji Fashion Week to build brand exposure. After our successful show in 2015, 11 Fiji and Fiji-based designers participated in Los Angeles Fashion Week and totally wowed the audience there. Two of these designers have secured agents in the US and more are exploring expanding into this market. We have also played a significant role in the development of similar fashion events around the Pacific and the world, especially where Fiji expats reside. Our media profile continues to build as we strategically partner with influential fashion bloggers and photographers to share Fijian fashion and creativity to the world. And we continue to provide advice and influence to the Fashion Council of Fiji and fashion education institutions within Fiji. Fiji Fashion Week is a limited liability company registered in Fiji in 2009.

FIJI FASHION WEEK

Achievements Corporate Social Responsibility: Fiji Fashion Week recognises the value of supporting and developing our community. We do this in a number of ways: 1. Each year, as part of our program of events for Fiji Fashion Week, we host a charity luncheon on behalf of the Dilkusha Children’s Home. FJFW selected this charity on the basis of wanting to support an established orphanage to provide further quality of life and opportunities for these forgotten children. In the last 2 years, we have raised FJD25,000 to support the work of this organisation. 2. FJFW contributed to developing designer education by sponsoring, RFx designer Rachel Fairfax and Aladdin’s Cave designer Elaine Taylor to attend the Australia Pacific Technical College Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology. Rachel and Elaine graduated in December 2015 and Rachel debuted her new skills with her collection closing the International Resort Wear Show, held at The Sofitel Resort and Spa in November 2015.

3. FJFW assisted in expanding the AusAid Scholarships offered for overseas training to include Fashion and Design. As a result, Robert Verebasaqa and Artika Singh were awarded scholarships to study Fashion and Design in Australia and will complete their 2 year studies in 2016. Designer Business Development: Fiji Fashion Week is a platform for designers to develop their career in fashion. We have a number of established designers who have grown their business through successful showcases in Fiji Fashion Week events. Here are a few success stories for our local designers: 1. 8 Mountains Collection: Moira Solvalu John won Children’s Wear Designer of the Year at FJFW in May this year. She was approached by one of the leading department stores in Suva to stock her children’s line. 2. Robert Kennedy Designs Fiji: Robert Kennedy used his participation in the FJFW Los Angeles show in October to secure an agent in the US for his resort line. Robert Kennedy Designs Fiji is now stocked in leading boutiques in Los Angeles. 3. Model Citizen: Eeshaal Niranjan used his participation in the FJFW Los Angeles show in October to secure an agent in the US. Model Citizen is now stocked in leading boutiques in Los Angeles with plans underway for further international representation of his street wear line. 4. Hefrani: Aisea Konrote used his participation in the FJFW Los Angeles show in October to secure orders for a boutique in California. 5. Three of our 2015 Award Winning Designers: Rako Designs, Jadeine Whiteside and Ilai Jikoiono were recommended for entry into the Australian Fashion Week Innovators Show. Fiji Fashion Week Program
