Week of the Young Child April 16-20, 2018
A special section to show support for this national celebration of young children.
Semcac Head Start is building bright futures with children and families We provide birth to age five learning opportunities at no cost to qualifying families. Semcac Head Start participates in the Parent Aware Child Care rating system for licensed providers, and consistently achieves a 4-Star High Quality Program rating. This year, our program ranked among the top 10% of Head Start classrooms across the nation for demonstrating effective teaching practices! Early Head Start for birth to 3-year-olds We offer a home-based option in Fillmore County to eligible families expecting a baby and/or with children birth to three years. A trained educator meets with enrolled families weekly with a focus on parent-child activities, child development, and family wellbeing. Home visits are paired with social events for parents and children twice per month. Socials are an opportunity for
parents to get to know each other, as well as provide an environment for the children to practice their newly developing social skills. Head Start for 3 to 5 year olds Our Preston Center offers services to children beginning at age three, and until they are eligible for kindergarten, in a preschool classroom setting. The classroom operates eight hours per day, Monday through Thursday during the school year, inside of our own room at Fillmore Central Elementary. Our highly qualified teaching staff fosters children’s confidence, creativity, critical thinking skills, and love of learning through our child-centered curriculum: The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. The Creative Curriculum incorporates the latest research and best practices,

Kingsland offers a variety of programs for your child to get a great start Kingsland Community Education prides ourselves on our commitment to provide quality educational opportunities and getting your child off to a great start. Kingsland has a variety of programs to offer to families with children of all ages: Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), preschool program, School Age Childcare (SACC), and a variety of enrichment activities. ECFE is a public school program for all families and children from birth to kindergarten enrollment. Parents and children are welcome to participate in ECFE programs. ECFE is based on the idea that the family provides a child’s first and most significant learning environment and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE works together to strengthen families. Class will provide parents and child interaction time. This is a time designated to enhance parent child interaction and your
child’s learning. Parents will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion with other parents on research based topics on early development and parenting. This group is led by a parent educator. It is a great time to connect with other parents of young children. During the parent discussion, your child will enjoy some learning through play. A licensed Early Childhood Educator will provide your child with fun activities that enhances development, creativity, and imagination. The program also has themed family events with school readiness activities, speakers on various family topics, and other special events and celebrations geared towards families. For more information about our events and classes please visit our website at www.kingsland.k12. mn.us/page/3634. Lanesboro Schools focus on the whole child The Lanesboro School community continues to make a strong investment in our youngest learners. Beginning with our strategic planning goal, “Deepen focus on the whole child beginning with well-aligned early childhood programming,” our Early Childhood Committee has
developed a plan to meet that goal. Through the efforts of this committee, Lanesboro Schools has secured a grant through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation to purchase The Creative Curriculum for all three stages of our youngest learners: infants, toddlers, and twos; pre-
school, and kindergarten. The goal this year is to begin alignment of our Social-Emotional curriculum across those stages of development with the hope that these skills will better prepare our students for long-term success in school and in life. The Lanesboro Child Care

SACC is designed as a drop-in childcare program, and you only pay for
the time your child attends the program. SACC offers a variety of field trips during the summer months. There is no minimum hours required. SACC charges $2.75 per hour. The program is open year round from 5:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., including non-school days during the school year. Fillmore Central has a variety of offerings for children birth to age 5 Fillmore Central takes pride in the programs that are offered at all levels of child development. Children are continually developing and we know that there are a lot of questions to go with all of these stages. We are very fortunate to be able to offer a variety of programs for families with children birth to five. School Readiness The primary goal of the Fillmore Centrals School Readiness program is to welcome students to the school setting, help them feel comfortable in a classroom and give them the tools to be ready when entering kindergarten. With a 4 Star Parent Aware Rating, parents know that our program goes above and beyond to prepare children for school and life. For more information and resources please visit parentaware.org. Our preschool experience is offered to students three to five years of age. Special education students are also integrated into our classrooms, allowing friendships to form and differences to be accepted. A very important piece of our program is offering transporta-
tion for our students and we could not do this without our dear van driver friend Gene. Early Childhood Special Education Program (ECSE) Fillmore Central School Readiness, ECFE and the One Block Child Care Center work side- by side with the ECSE staff and students. Early intervention helps identify any difficulties or delays in the developmental process and intervenes at the very earliest stages to help a child progress to their full potential. Services for students under the age of three are delivered with a family-centered model. Instruction often occurs in the home, with district staff/consultants making home visits to work directly with children and to provide parents with strategies to facilitate child development. Services for students aged three to five are delivered with a center-base approach. A variety of classes are offered to meet the needs of children with various developmental needs. Classes include activities which allowsECSE students the opportunity to learn and play with typically developing peers. Spe-
cialized services are provided within the classroom. If you have concerns about a child’s development or for more in-depth information on your child’s developmental milestones; visit helpmegrowmn.org. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) ECFE is geared toward birthfive and exists to strengthen families through the education and support of all parents in providing the best possible environments for the healthy growth and development of their children. We conduct sessions in Harmony and Preston. At every session, children play, sing and get to know new friends, have circle time with songs, stories and activities. Parents share parenting skills and ideas, new and up-to-date information on topics that relate to your child’s development are available, and parents form a support network and friendships. ECFE offers special family events throughout the year geared toward families with young children. We are gearing up for ECFE On-TheGo sessions this summer that will bring educational materials
