A Tale Of Water, Palm Trees And Family
A reminder to future generations that today’s prosperity was made possible because of the sweat and blood of our ancestors who carved rock for water and cultivated palm trees for life in this place,” said Al Dhaheri, writer, journalist and an award-winning photographer about his first film. “It is a story about three elements: water, palm trees and family, and how they combine to establish a civilisation and constitute a culture that people don’t know of. They know us only through the camel, desert and oil. This is our real story,” he added. “The Arabic narrative is marked by its poetic language and detailed cinematography focusing on the art of storytelling. The film is filled with stories. It shows the real culture which existed before oil was discovered,” said Al Dhaheri. The film, which is translated into English, French and Spanish, showcases the region’s ancestral dependency on two essential lifelines – water and date palm which provided food and materials for building houses and boats.
A feature documentary by Nasser Al Dhaheri
Synopsis The long documentary “A Tale Of Water, Palm Trees And Family “ is a deep-rooted journey in the UAE’s land, people and culture, through the trilogy of water, palm trees and people; the main components of the UAE’s civilisation. A tribute to the memory of those who worked hard in the past, and a reminder to future generations that today’s prosperity was made by the sweat and blood of the ancestors who carved rock for water, and cultivated palm trees for life. Charting 3,000 years of the UAE’s Civilisation
2
The UAE may be a relatively new country that was formed out of a federation of seven emirates 46 years back, but since then it has stunned the world with its continuous progress and world-class development. To the West, the region is mostly considered as a land of camels, desert, and oil. But a refreshing documentary showcasing the roots of the country and stretching back some 3,000 years, made its latest triumph at The Cannes Festival by bagging the Best Film in Culture Preservation award in the World Peace Initiative Film Festival category. This is the 8th international award for A Tale Of Water, Palm Trees And Family by the Emirati filmmaker Nasser Al Dhaheri, since it started touring world festivals, following its premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in 2015. The 2h.22-minute feature length documentary tells the story of a deeprooted journey of the UAE – land, people and culture – through a trilogy that forms the main components of UAE’s civilisation. After bagging awards in Dubai, Norway, Oakland, Canada, Barcelona, Los Angeles and New York, the movie is now set to screen at the upcoming Madrid International Film Festival, and other festivals. “The documentary is a tribute to the memory of those who worked hard in the past.

In Al Ain, where Al Dhaheri was born, there is evidence of the world’s oldest known falaj – an ancient network of underground water channels that was carved out of rock around 1,000BC. “It is testament to Herculean effort, and engineering prowess. Many of these channels still remain the main source of irrigation in Al Ain even today,” Al Dhaheri said. But the journey of understanding the rich history was not easy. It involved touring across the entire span of the UAE. “We slept in the desert, and went (out to the sea) in the morning with fishermen. We ascended mountains, and ate in the middle of palm oases,” Al Dhaheri recalled. “We also had some funny situations, like being attacked by a raging bull while filming a bullfight in Fujairah. Our camera was the first victim, because we all ran when we saw that bull coming at us!” he told us.

Ballad of a Righteous Merchant A stunning documentary film by Herbert Golder
A fresh and candid glimpse of one of the great masters of cinema at work, by his longtime friend (of more than 25 years) and collaborator (on 10 films) Herbert Golder, BALLAD OF A RIGHTEOUS MERCHANT chronicles Werner Herzog’s making of the feature film, MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE (co-written by Golder), which was nominated for a GOLDEN LION at the Venice Film Festival, and which stars Michael Shannon, Willem Dafoe, and Chloe Sevigny. MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE was inspired by the true story of an actor who acted out in reality the crime he was supposed to enact on stage in a production of an ancient Greek play: he murdered his mother. BALLAD OF A RIGHTEOUS MERCHANT explores the process through which this true story, itself inspired by a fiction, is transformed back into a fiction— that is, a narrative feature film—once again. Unlike other documentaries which have been made about Herzog, in which he stares almost defiantly into the camera and, in
his inimitable way and in his famous voice, articulates his views on life, this film shows a side of him known only to his friends and close collaborators. Although refreshingly candid and surprisingly revealing, this portrait in no way diminishes Herzog’s mystique—quite the contrary—but it does deepen our appreciation of his humanity, and offers, through Golder’s running commentary—as much part of an ongoing conversation with Herzog as a conversation with the viewer—an insider’s insight into his craft. Even as we come closer to knowing
Herzog more intimately in this film, we also become increasingly aware of his privacy and the deep solitude that in some essential way defines him. Herzog’s idea that film should be, not analysis, but an “agitation of the mind” informs the telling of the story that unfolds here. Not without its moments of humor and warmth, BALLAD OF A RIGHTEOUS MERCHANT nonetheless manages to explore, through what we see taking shape on screen and through Golder’s voiceover narration, some of the most abiding and deepest themes of Herzog’s films.

MIXED MEDIUM
WWW.FILMFESTINTERNATIONAL.COM
A Film by Shomshuklla
She and her team have received multiple awards at several Festivals including for Best Cinematography, Best Male Lead, Best Director & Best Foreign Language Film.
Mixed Medium has been directed by multiple award winning woman indie film-maker, Shomshuklla, whose previous award winning works include such dramas as Sandcastle (the story of a woman finding her true identity), A Holiday & A Picnic (an adaptation of Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore’s famous romantic novella, Shesher Kobita), Hopscotch (a psychological horror film) and her recent release TikTok TikTok (a surreal, romantic film).
I shot this film all across Mumbai in India. Around the sea front, street, even in an art festival, thus getting some awesome props to enhance the journey and life of artists. Two plays which are staged in the film are my famous two plays, which I performed at the Edinburgh fringe festival, called We Draupadis and Sita’s, and Oh Gandhari, Oh Kunti which was performed in the famed Kala ghoda art festival in India.
Mixed Medium is a story of the artists portraying the difference between their real and reel life. It is a journey of how surreal their work and life is whereas in real life, a simple cup of coffee can enlighten their day. Life full of mixed mediums and a way they live their life sometimes artistically or sometimes intellectually. They may be in their dream world full of aspirations but it’s the rain that brings them to reality. It’s a story of how they rehearse and perform for their stage show, and contradicts to that how relax and how they like to be in their own space. Also, you will understand how romance and love plays a critical role in each day of their lives.

JERRY DONE
LEXICON A riveting feature documentary by filmmaker Dennis Chaltraw
Jerry Done - Lexicon, makes its international debut at the Milan International Filmmaker Festival, on Thursday, November 30th. The rising hip-hop phenomenon from California puts it all together with Lexicon, the studio documentary shot in one eight-hour day. 12 amazing takes that takes the viewers and music fans from the edge of verbal darkness to the lighter side of hip-hop that presents and delivers as smooth emotional rhythm and poetry. Director Dennis Chaltraw, says that following “Jerry through the epic that is Lexicon was truly a labor of love and took everyone by complete surprise”. “Jerry’s articulation, speed, and self-proclaimed “rhyming Jesus” talent is a must see for anyone who loves art that is music and lyricism.”
Lexicon starts raw and a bit fuzzy – (“I just woke up man!”) …..but quickly moves into the darker side of wordsmithing with “Introducing” followed by late night tale, “The Dark Side”, where you begin to feel he’s about to put it all together. And Jerry Done does not disappoint. Next comes the stunning and must-see epic that is “Hard Work Pays Off” - and as Director Chaltraw calls it “the greatest underground hip-hop song every recorded”. “Hard Work Pays Off stole the show at the Hip Hop Festival of NYC earlier this year which lead to a number of production and documentary opportunities still in development. “ One of the endearing qualities of Lexicon are the outtakes that takes the viewer through the emotional pain and feel of a recording session and it’s here, away from the music, that Jerry’s talent for humor, timing, and musical sincerity shines brightly. To say he has personality and dynamic onstage presence is simply an understatement.
10
As you work your way through Lexicon, you begin to be overtaken by Jerry’s emotion and end up pulling for him to “get it right”. “You end up caring for the artist, and I’m not sure you want more out of a documentary.” “The beauty of Lexicon is not only the art, but how the viewer presses on with Jerry Done as he overcomes the difficulties of twelve songs in one eight-hour day.” After “Hard Work Pays Off”, comes the equally impressive “Rollin’ Dice”, a playful yet deep tune about choices and consequences. He finishes the song with “I wish I would have known…. don’t ever roll the dice…..on life”, and the truth of his message hits home. Then comes The Light Side, where Jerry Done surprises everyone by coming out clean shaven, dreads pulled back, in a suit coat (Spoiler!! - doesn’t last one song!), and shares with us his view of the beauty and diversity that is hip hop with a number of songs that reflects the lighter and whimsical side of this amazing artist. “May The Funk Be With You” has the feel of a hit pop song that explores Jerry’s beat-boxing talents. Over the next few songs, his emotional and heavy-hearted exploration of rhythm and poetry brings to the screen “Start Tunes” which is followed by the amazing “The Pinnacle” where Jerry vocalizes amazing quarter-beat rapping – an incredible and rare talent in the world of hip hop. It has to be seen to be believed. Lexicon finishes with the incredible high that is the “Light Side” and you’ll find yourself pushing for Jerry to get through one of the of the most difficult and lyrically challenging songs on the album. The pay off for Lexicon comes as it channels itself to a emotional and heartfelt closing that speaks directly to the viewer when he expresses, “let’s go home man......” Although Jerry Done remains an unsigned and undiscovered jewel in the music industry, he does so under his own direction as he efforts to find the perfect fit for his musical vision. He is currently working on this third studio album from his home in Central California and is busy preparing for his world tour in the summer of 2018. After Milan, UMA with its full crew headed to Monaco to participate in the Monaco International Film Festival, only to get ready for 2018. For the film, this is just the beginning of a long, already successful journey! So who is behind all of this international independent film success? Let’s take a look at the team… Alain Maiki: Is the founding member of Epic In Motion, Corp. With over 20 years of experience as a producer and musician, Alain began at a young age by diligently watching his father write poetry and songs. Through these early lessons, Alain learned a great deal about complex song composition which them led him to become a music producer as well. However, it was ultimately his move to the United States that truly allowed Alain to develop into other diverse fields outside of music. His passion for the film industry included working on musical scores as well as original compositions for several indie films. Alain next decided it was time to find great stories, scripts, and a visual production team to lead them as a director in order to bring together his unique experiences of music and video/film.
13
To date, Alain has produced and directed numerous music videos, short films, and 2 feature films. His most prolific film “Devuélveme La Vida”, produced & directed by him, was released in 2016 in Venezuela and has received film festival’s nominations and awards across the globe. Currently showing on Cable TV “STARZ ENCORE” his debut feature keeps reaching out to its audience while Alain continues his passion to make more film with great stories. His new film “UMA” as mentioned above is repeating this success, only this time, bigger and broader across the world.

LORDEMANI A Film by Brais Revaldería & Ricardo Pérez
For over ten centuries, Galicia (Spain) has had a great relation with the Viking people. The different waves of Vikings on the Galician coasts has brought about that, today, that essence can still be appreciated in celebrations such as Catoira (Pontevedra), the twin of the Danish city of Fredrikssund. Danes and Spaniards joined by history and now by the bonds of friendship after more than 25 years of joint celebrations show us once again that racial, cultural or language differences are not an obstacle for the understanding and cooperation between these people, in an era when separatisms and discriminatory treatment towards race or religion have increased in first world countries. Lordemani is a sample of culture and of the common character of two people who without reaching verbal understanding are capable of coexisting and of creating lasting bonds of friendship by setting aside differences or quarrels from the past. A New End: A New Beginning Produced by NiaSounds Directed by Steven McDaniels
Most movie-goers, especially those lovers of the Black and White screen are familiar with the slow scroll at the end of a movie announcing two words, The End. Redundant? Perhaps, but maybe not, as the nominated documentary, A New End, suggests. What if there was no end? Originally shot and slated for music videos, the footage was roughly timed lined and never finished by a recent film school graduate, Rufus Paisley. The result is an uncut, unpolished, unedited view into Jeff Stuart’s experience as a mature artist committed to birthing a long-held dream in a world that expects nothing more from him than a subscription to AARP, and a power lift recliner. The documentary, produced by NiaSounds and directed by Steven McDaniels, reveals the journey of song writer and successful business man, Jeff Stuart as he travels the road less travelled. What sets Stuart apart from the pack, and the same old worn story of a young man in pursuit of his dreams is his age.
18
The familiar adage that says we get the face we’ve earned requires years of living to tell its story. Stuart’s face reflects the cragginess of Willie Nelson, the miles travelled of Keith Richards, and soul-filled eyes of a poet. Now in his early 60’s, Stuart’s journey covers the ground of that welllived life: drug addict, homeless, house painter, cowboy, construction worker, rocker, husband and father, flourishing business man and community leader. That’s enough subject matter for any documentary, but the thru-line in A New End, is Stuart’s compelling ongoing, ever-present desire to assert his aliveness, a quality expected at 20, streamlined at 30, sedentary at 40 and 50 years of age, and extraordinary at 60. Mixed in with his extraordinary commitment, and accomplished musical talent is the soulbaring vulnerability of an artist. Viewers can’t help but root for the guy. The documentary opens with Stuart headed into his 6th decade, lamenting over the nosebleed, steep battle to achieve his dreams as a musician at perhaps the closing curtain time of his life. This challenge for support is more common than not for late-bloomers and high achievers who happen to be in the autumnal years of their lives, sidetracked by the mistakes of youth, pressures to support a family, and all manner of distractions that hold sway over most us. Yet Stuart aims high and works his instruments as well as his contacts, creating a keychain of supporters who can help him reach the pinnacle of his dream, which as his daughter Monica says in the film, “is nothing less than hanging out with of Bruce Springsteen.”

This singular struggle to achieve in our latter years is perhaps a by-product of the Baby Boomer era and is fodder for the Netflix hit series Grace and Frankie. The series is rich in material about two women, Grace and Frankie, played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, whose characters, like Stuart are also in their 60’s, and are also still pursuing their creativity, which for them is to garner a loan to fund their dildo business, designed especially for the discriminating elderly user; (where do I sign up?).Similar to Grace and Frankie’s experience with the banking industry, who see no value in a loan term that will likely outlive its applicants, the music industry and our youthobsessed culture likewise do not support those perceived to be past their shelf-life date.
Every moment is a reflection It’s just a fractal without an end A system of believers It’s message that has no conclusion The message of redeemers We’re still wondering the streets of gold. Stuart pursues his musical quest with the holistic fervor of man who has lived through heroin addiction in his 20’s, overcame alcoholism, a first marriage, and then at 59 Stuart’s doctor gave him a life expectancy of three to five years due to a diagnosis of liver failure and the ravages caused by a lingering Hepatitis C virus. Today his doctors consider Stuart a true rock star for his successful recovery on the drug Harboni. Recently they flew him out to the Chicago Blues Fest to address a crowd of over a quarter of a million, as the poster boy for the medication. Yet the odds he’s up against are not lost on Stuart. He characterizes this time in his life as the “super bowl for me.”
Moreover, it’s no secret our culture discards and devalues our elders, so the notion of someone pursuing their dreams at 60 seems radical against this backdrop, and is certainly not for the faint of heart, but as Stuart’s twentysomething year old daughter Monica says in the film, “My dad is not a mild dude.” Stuart is driven as much by his dreams as his demons; he remains undaunted in his quest to achieve success as musician, and there’s no doubt he has the talent to deliver. In one of the most revealing moments in the documentary, his producer, Rob Daiker, nudges Stuart to begin to write a song. The creative process is caught on film; tentative, raw, and in the flow, Stuart looms over the page, pen in hand, moving his body to music only he hears, poised to receive inspiration and inspiration does not disappoint:

By Stuart’s own account he spends at least 5 hours a day in the studio, outside the hours he spends as the manager of a thriving business; he writes songs, makes radio appearances, takes voice lessons, receives acupuncture for his Hep C symptoms and more. Indeed, fueled by a high octane urge to live his best life, the day we met for this article, Stuart had an AA meeting on his calendar to help him quit smoking. The urge to engage with all that life offers never ends for Stuart.
21
The camera follows Stuart from a visit to his old house where in his early 30’s his children were born. He built his own recording and rehearsal studio in a failing one car garage using, egg cartons and shag carpeting on the walls, to Stuart being interviewed at the Portland Project Radio. This is one of the most moving moments in the film as Stuart sings one of his love songs with such an aching vulnerability that at times it feels like an intrusion to witness.

Characterized as man for whom extreme sports is not that extreme, it’s a small stretch to understand that Stuart is most comfortable living in the center of a creative storm. That same quality of living in the zeitgeist of creative forces is what fuels Stuart’s commitment to realize his dreams.
22
Of equal importance, if not more relevant, is to note that this documentary is not about the hardships of a young rocker trying to hang a star in the firmament of rock history. This is a guy who not only battles physical ailments, but aging, self-doubt, discriminating cultural roadblocks, manages a highly successful business, markets himself, and most seriously of all, pays for studio time, musicians, his music producer, Rob Daiker, backup singers like Amber Sweeney, all on his own dime. No small feat when you consider the price tag. Stuart once asked his lawyer, renowned music industry attorney, Jay Cooper, what it cost to break a rock band; Cooper’s response was a cool million.
What’s so human and powerful and cool about Stuart and A New End is not only the message to stay vibrant thru life, but in a radical act of self-love, to broaden the possibilities of what is possible as we near that final Good Night. A favorite phrase of Stuart’s is You never know the end of the story. Words to live by even if we missed the first off ramp to our dreams, or we’re hobbled by an ailment, or realize we have more time behind us than in front of us, or we fear those two words that come up at the end of the movie. Perhaps it’s time to consider that there is a new end, and it is a beginning.

NOW BOARDING 2
Director’s Biography - Teresa H. Mular Dr. Teresa Mular was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She was raised and educated there, completing her University studies and graduating as a Medical Doctor at age 23. Parallel to that she studied piano and voice at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. As a young person she developed a lifelong passion for classical music and the arts. She moved to New York, to further her training at Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York-Kings County Hospital, in Brooklyn. She became an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology years later at the same institution and had a long career as a physician and teacher.
A short comedy by Teresa Mular
This is a sequel to Now Boarding, a previous comedy that revealed the indignities of airline travel. This time boarding takes place in a cruise liner toward the circumnavigation of Dog Island. Here we learn about the booking ordeals when on the phone with an airline, cruise line or for that matter with any commercial office. Followed by the actual voyage and a special ending, the narrative here is utterly surreal and seemingly absurd, intertwining a variety of hilarious events taking place in the realm of humans and canines. An entertaining comedy with a touch of magic.
Previously she was the President of the New York Gynecological Society (New York City). She has been studying Italian in Florence since 2006 and it is there where she found the germinating seed for making a documentary about the land that witnessed her birth. She recently completed a four-part documentary that pays homage to the various artistic complexities and cultural life of Buenos Aires “ Volando en las Alas del Tiempo” (Flying on the Wings of Time). Her film “ Four Journeys “ was completed in June 2016. It is a documentary about immigrant Latin American women now working in New York and who have struggled in various ways since arriving as newcomers to New York, but are now successful in their own careers and private lives. It has been officially selected, nominated and awarded ad various film festivals at a national and international level. Another successful documentary she made “ The Muse is the Mountain “ about artisan women living in Costa Rica has won multiple awards in Europe, Asia and the Americas ; it received an award at the Milan film festival for best director of Short Documentary in 2015 and the Best Foreign Language Documentary at the Berlin International Filmmaker Festival 2016. Her last project is a short fiction comedy: “Now Boarding“, in English, with a Spanish subtitled version as well (“Embarcando” ) was selected for screening on October 3rd at the New York Dog Film Festival ( 2015 ). In addition it has been selected at other international film festivals, including the Colortape Festival in Brisbane, Australia (June 2016), the Dada Saheb Festival in India (April 2016), The Jakarta Festival (Indonesia) November 2015, The Finow Festival, in Germany (February 2016) and recently The Madrid International Film Festival where it won for Best Original Screenplay of a Short Film. Currently she is working with her new documentary about Latin- American immigrant women living in New York. Comedy

THE THIRD WHEEL Directed by Johanny Mota
The third wheel is a short story about a guy named Jessy who moves in with his best friend Mary and her boyfriend after a bad breakup. The film had been brewing in my mind for quite some time and after attending a few writing groups in NYC I finalized the script in June 2017. I often find myself being the third wheel in all of my friend’s relationships, which inspired me to write the film. I wanted to make a fun film that people could relate to so I asked a few friends to collaborate on the film with me and we shot the film in two days late July 2017. Like most indie shorts “The Third Wheel” consisted of a very small crew. Aside from writing the film, I also: Directed, executive produced, served as casting director, and starred as “Mary”.
In no specific order, I would like to say thank you to everyone who helped make “The Third Wheel” possible: Stephanie McBee, John Painz, Nick Bedo, Okima Kilgore, Bryan Fernandez, David James, Abby and Amelia Hoke, Michelle Agresti, and lastly my two perfect co-stars Steven Smith and Brennan Lowery. Last but not least, a huge thank you to The Milan International Film Festival for giving me and so many indie film makers a platform to showcase our work and connect with other brilliant minds.
Even though my crew was tiny, each member of the crew was happy to juggle more than one assignment. My Assistant director, Stephanie McBee, helped with production and scheduling; Our Director of Photography, John Painz, is also the editor of the film and he did all our production designs. To top it off, a few of my non film/acting related friends volunteered their day to help out on set. I am very grateful for my crew and all their hard work and dedication. I’ve learned that aside from a good story sometimes you just need a really good group of people to create something special. jo.mota51@gmail.com

Louise, aged 68, is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and lives in a nursing home. Her daily life is riddled with sadness because her son Daniel is no longer visiting her, discouraged by his mother’s memory lapses. The arrival of a new patient in the home, Leo, who is also suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, will upset Louise’s life ... but also that of Daniel! “Firstly, this is my first fictional film script and of course, I don’t mind saying that I made a lot of mistakes! I have been making documentary films for the last 20 years and it really helped me identify some problems in the script…. This story has been written with the collaboration of a script-writer but the shooting was made in difficult conditions and without any real budget resulting in last minute adaptations and improvisation. My documentary experience also helped me direct the actors allowing me to remain calm and to be able to react to most of the unpredictable issues which really helped reassure the team and I can say that we have adapted around 50% of the story during the shooting.

The question was, when you really loved someone, is it possible that everything is definitively erased? Is love printed in our DNA? So isn’t the best way to demonstrate it with a couple who both suffer from Alzheimer’s who had separated many years before finding themselves in the same nursing home. Is it possible to be attracted to each other without the memories? The aim was clearly not to make an informative film on the subject of Alzheimer’s disease but, surprisingly I received very positive feed-back from psychiatrists, Festival Directors, sufferers and so on.” Pierre Van de Kerckhove
Before I made this film I only knew a few things about Alzheimer’s through one of my family members whose mother suffered from this terrible disease. And in fact, who finally was unable to even recognise her own children in the end. I didn’t do deep research on the disease as the aim of the story was actually about love. The idea came to mind due to a personal heartache that I faced a few years ago. Drama

The Door Keepers A Script by Al Tevanyan
36
A terminally ill physics professor accepts an unexpected offer of help and reluctantly attends a secret society ritual. Bizarre occurrences and her quest for answers lead to a shocking discovery about her own immortality, all unveiled by modern science. “Oblivion! That’s what gives meaning to life!...We are saved when we forget.” The Door Keepers. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ALYSON? Physics lecturer ALYSON NOVALSKY and her fiancé PETER are planning a romantic trip to Paris. Something is bothering Alyson. She has lately been reflecting about the meaning of life, and the possibility of pointlessness of existence. Peter is worried that Alyson’s recent frequent headaches are signs of a serious health problem. After some tests, the doctor informs her that she has a terminal condition and has only few months to live. Alyson is a scientist and does her best to rationally assess the situation and not to succumb to emotions. Physics Department Chair BARBARA SHAPIRO offers help and provides her with the time and place she should attend. Alyson is skeptical, but decides to go solely because of her respect for Barbara as a scientist. At the designated mansion, Alyson finds a group of mysterious people - the members of the secret society who call themselves The Door Keepers. The group led by Barbara, ceremoniously performs what seems to be a ritual. The next thing Alyson remembers is waking up on her couch. Her bewilderment is further accompanied by bizarre and unexplainable events. She begins making frantic phone calls trying to make sense of the situation. Alyson contacts her doctor to check on her condition. Her medical records show nothing is wrong. Alyson seeks answers from Barbara who seems puzzled. She didn’t expect Alyson to remember what happened at the mansion and agrees to meet with her. Barbara explains to Alyson that she did indeed die, but that the Door Keepers helped her to move her consciousness through dimensions. Barbara tells her: “there are infinite copies of ourselves, living an infinite number of lives, in an infinite number of universes simultaneously”. Barbara further explains that we are capable of being in multiple dimensions and have yet to wake up to life’s strange recurrence and mutation. Barbara astonishes her even more when she reveals to Alyson that all the events of life have been and will be the same forever. Alyson is horrified by the implications, although theoretically she knows the principle. She replies: “Oblivion! That’s what gives meaning to life! How miserable are we!” Barbara offers to erase Alyson’s memory to relieve her from the unbearable burden of repetitiveness. Alyson faces a dilemma between the carefree ignorance and the grueling reality. After a great deal of thought, she decides to keep her memory. She realizes ignorance isn’t bliss and happiness isn’t in the oblivion, but in her conscious choice to enjoy the eternal recurrence of life’s experiences.
WHAT TRIGGERED IT? Several years ago I had a close brush with death. One day, as I was contemplating about what had happened and how lucky I was to survive, an idea suddenly dawned on me. What if I didn’t? The Door Keepers was initially created as a TV Pilot with much more eerie scenes. This short script is, of course, a work of fiction. It is, however, to some degree, backed by some mind-boggling theories that modern science has suggested. People like to break concepts and ideas into “cookie
cutter” categories, to put them into shelves and give them names. The Door Keepers attempts to suggest that science, philosophy and mysticism can all be part of a one giant unified web of existence. My protagonist wants to know the answer to the grand question: What’s the meaning of life? “It’s all the same, only the names will change Everyday, it seems we’re wastin’ away…” - Bon Jovi Drama

Synopsis Kijima Kaito (grade 5) moved with his family to Ogi-jimah, where his father was originally from, because of his mother’s illness. After the death of his mother, he lived with his father and grandfather. Eventually his father left the island to go back to work as a photographer.
A Short Film by Keiko Umenoki
This was filmed with a focus on the scenery of Ogi Island, found within the Seto Naikai area and with a focus on the people living there. “W&M”, my previous film portrayed the lives of individual women visiting the island. But during the creation of this film I had in mind the children, who’ve moved to the island and their growth and struggles regarding their future.
Yuu Takagi (also grade5), who recently moved to the island, smiles at him in the midst of his loneliness. The two of them grow up together and are now high school students.
My desire is to continue to show these films, both inside and outside of Kagawa, as a means of revitalising the islands of Seto Naikai and Kagawa prefecture.
This is a story of two children who moved to the island, fell in love, and grew up together.

NOVEMBER 10TH Directed by Aryanto Yuniawan
After the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan surrendered to the Allies. It was signed on the USS Missouri. But the war wasn’t over, the Dutch forces rode on the Allies and reclaimed the Dutch East Indies. But the people of Indonesia did not remain silent. They rose up to defend the independence of the Indonesian Republic.
Generally, this film tells about the adventure of a boy named Musa in the frenzy of the greatest war in the revolutionary period of independence. Musa is a shoeshine boy who becomes a courier for the struggle of Arek-Arek Surabaya (Youth) against the Allies. Musa is trusted to be a messenger of letters and secret codes. An exciting and gripping adventure is passed. Starting from the loss of wealth and the loved ones to some unexpected encounters that enrich his mind and life.

The main message of this movie has been represented in such a way in the tag line: No Glory in War; There is no triumph in the war. War only publishes sorrow and bitterness. This powerful message emanates from the entire film. Therefore, in this film, heroism is not presented as a hero of war who is able to eradicate dozens of enemies in a single sweep nor the story of the triumph of war with murder and extermination. The idea of this film is to present a humanitarian story and offer a heroic understanding that is not as commonly understood. Everyone can be a hero, hero of the nation, for the family, or even for himself. Everyone experiences the process of growing into a hero, becoming a better person, in their own way. In short, the moral of the film is; heroism can be presented in anyone. November 10th is not a biopic motion picture that presents the biographical story of historical figures. The story in this movie is fiction with a background of some historical events.
