CES and “THE SHOW” 2008 STANDOUTS FINAL SOUND Final’s 1000i and 600i. The 1000i is my choice for the best real world loudspeaker. It is fast, clean, coherent, and extremely detailed with no hint of offense. Plus they are relative sensitive for electrostatic panels at 86db and have a wider than expected sweet spot - enough for a couple sitting on the couch. These were drive by a 100watts/channel tube amp. One show goer commented that they were a lot more efficient than my MartinLogans.

Final system with FVSS 201 DVD receiver has 75 watts/channel driving a pair of 400i.

Five things about finals BY VINCENT BARNES JR./FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER Finality can be fearful, tremendous, hard to watch, good to hear or just done. FINAL EXAMS At the end of each school term, students worldwide have to prepare for final exams. Of course, the teacher says you should’ve been preparing all along. Exams can be true/false, multiple choice, essay, even oral. No matter what the structure is, they generally evoke terror. IN SPORTS The NBA Finals, the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup finals, the World Series or the state finals. Whatever level you play at -- for the athletes, these mean a lot. It’s especially personal in professional basketball. Compared with other pro sports, basketball teams have the fewest members, and they’re highly visible. The Pistons have won the NBA Finals three times, giving Detroit bragging rights, and this season’s team is capable of capturing another one. ON THE SCREEN For years, people have cringed while watching a movie from the “Final Destination” series. The central theme of this trilogy is the actions after premonitions of freak accidents, which always allow a group of people to escape death. As the movies progress, clues are revealed about how these escapees will die. One person tries to prevent these accidents, and the audience is left to watch the bone-chilling events. FINE LISTENING Final Sound is a company that manufactures electromagnetic speaker systems, including subwoofers. Based in the Netherlands, the company was founded in 1991 on an idea about hybrid speaker design. It is known for very light and thin high-definition speakers for home theaters and other uses. FINALLY ... Besides being the name of a song and an album, the word “finally” can be very useful. It can express relief after a difficulty, such as finding a lost item.

It also can mean you’re at the end of something, whether it be a statement, process, final exam or -- hey, a Five Things.

Product News: Final Sound HD Receiver 201 Drives Electrostatic Sound System

by Arlen Schweiger Virtual surround sound, including a Final Sound S95 Subwoofer, comes blaring through the company's electrostatic speakers with its HD System 8 and Receiver 201. A Final Sound virtual surround system, complete with electrostatic speakers If you’ve seen electrostatic loudspeakers, you know they appeal to audiophile enthusiasts who value performance and elegance. In an effort to complement their electrostatic beauties, Final Sound has debuted the Final Sound HD System 8 for a seamless virtual surround-sound solution. The anchor of the System 8 is Final Sound’s HD Receiver 201, which combines a DVD/CD player, a quality 1080p video scaler, 75-watt receiver, and can create a virtual surround sound experience, the company says, when you match it with a pair of full-range electrostatic speakers. The Final Sound HD System 8 also includes matching Final Sound Subwoofer (Final S95 subwoofer), but can also use two other Final Sound subs.

Your electric bill might appreciate the HD System 8 too, since it caters to the electrostatic speakers’ energyefficient technology, as you can drive the company’s powerful F1000i speakers with just the 75-watt amplifier while getting the dynamic highs and lows the electrostatic loudspeakers serve up. Plus they just look cool—no hiding these speakers in cabinets or behind a screen.

About Inverter™ Technology With its exclusive Inverter Technology, Final re-engineered the way sound and power move across the face of the speaker. Traditional electrostat designs move the audio signal across the stator plates on each side of a Mylar diaphragm to “pull” the film and create the sound, the Final technology “inverts” that process by embedding the audio signal inside a sealed diaphragm. This creates sound energy that is stronger, clearer, far more responsive, and amazingly lifelike. The design of the new inverter enables speaker impedance to be substantially higher than traditional electrostats nominal 4 Ohm. This allows the use of smaller amplifiers - as low as 35 watts - to drive the speakers for the F90i and 75 watts for the F1000i. An important benefit of the Final Inverter technology is the separation of the high and medium-low tones, resulting in a far broader stereo image. About Final Sound Solutions Final Sound Solutions is a full-line manufacturer of the world’s lightest and flattest high-definition awardwinning surround sound systems and speakers for home theater enthusiasts and audiophiles. Final’s mission is to bring flat panel digital lifestyle sound solutions to the home entertainment market allowing consumers having a matching high definition sound quality with their high definition video. Based in the Netherlands, the company has been an innovator in the development of advanced electrostatic speaker technology for the high-end audiophile market for more than a decade. The company completed work on breakthrough technology that created the first modular electrostatic speakers and in 2004, introduced its unique inverter technology, which completely eliminated the crossover distortion common to traditional cone speakers, creating the most natural, lifelike audio speakers in the home entertainment market. The patent for this inverter technology was granted in 2006. The company received funding and now is concentrating on broadening its distribution worldwide.
