LBUQUERQUE (November 20, 2012) – JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU) has announced it will begin service to the sun-drenched Southwestern city of Albuquerque starting April 22, 2013. As announced in Mayor Richard J. Berry’s State of the City address, the airline will offer the only nonstop flight between the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) and John F. Kennedy International (JFK).

“JetBlue is pleased to offer customers the only nonstop service from the Big Apple to the beautiful, blue skies city of Albuquerque,” said Dave Barger, CEO and president of JetBlue Airways Corp. “The city is a popular vacation and business destination, rich in culture and arts, heritage and history, and home to the world’s largest hot air balloon festival. We look forward to earning the loyalty of even more customers in the southwest with our new service to New Mexico.”

Currently, the flight between JFK and ABQ will be offered once per day, with scheduling as follows:

Albuquerque is JetBlue’s first destination in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, and will be the 77th destination served in the airline’s growing route network.

ABQ BioPark Update: Rhino Calf Name Announced And the rhino calf’s name is... CHOPPER!

T

he name Chopper was suggested by many people in remembrance of Jimmy “Chopper” Abalos (1953-2010). A strong contributor to the community with an uncountable number of friends, Abalos sponsored multiple little league teams called the “Rhinos.” He was inducted in the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2003, and his adult softball team, also the Rhinos, was inducted in 2009. Jimmy “Chopper” Abalos believed in the theory of Rhinoceros Success - taking charge, focusing and being unstoppable while moving toward dreams and goals.

With more than 500 votes from Facebook fans, Chopper is the winning name. (The runner-up was “Linus” with more than 300 votes.)

Chopper will remain behind-the-scenes for several more months, and we’ll be posting regular updates through the BioPark’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ abqbiopark). He now weighs 214 pounds and is gaining 2-3 pounds per day. The spunky little rhino continues to be a favorite among the zookeepers and animal care staff.
