Albuquerque To Host 2014 NCAA Men’s and Womens’s Division 1 Indoor Track & Field National Championship

lbuquerque, NM (November 27, 2012) – The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is pleased to announce that Albuquerque, New Mexico will host the 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The meet will take place March 13-15, 2014. The University of New Mexico (UNM) Track & Field program will serve as the host institution with support from the ACVB and the City of Albuquerque. The City of Albuquerque introduced a 200-meter Mondo track in 2005 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. In the years since, it has served as UNM’s indoor facility, hosted three USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, two NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, and it will soon host the NCAA Indoor Championships, among many other high caliber track and field events.

This event will generate more than $1.3 million in direct spending in Albuquerque along with 3,000 hotel room nights with more than 600 athletes, coaching staff and administrators attending. “Being selected as the host site for the 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division I Indoor Track & Field National Championships further substantiates that Albuquerque is the indoor track and field capital of the United States. Albuquerque to Host Far West Regional Soccer Tournament

lbuquerque, NM (December 2012) – The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is pleased to announce that Albuquerque, New Mexico will host the 2014 Far West Regional Youth Soccer Tournament.
The US Youth Soccer tournament will take place June 14-22, 2014 with matches taking place at the State Farm Bernalillo Soccer Complex just north of Albuquerque. The complex is home to 22 top-notch soccer fields along with two lighted championship fields with seating for 2,000 spectators. The tournament is expected to generate more than 14,000 hotel room nights to be used by 19,000 players, coaches, parents and fans. The nine-day tournament is expected to generate nearly $5.7 million in direct spending in Albuquerque. US Youth Soccer is a nationwide body with more 300,000 dedicated coaches and over 3,000,000 youth players ages 5-19. The organization is made up of 55 member state associations. The Far West Region is comprised of the 13 Western US states including Alaska and Hawaii. “Albuquerque is a haven for soccer at all levels and the Far West Regional Tournament is another in a long line of desirable soccer events for this destination. It combines highly competitive soccer with substantial room nights and impactful levels of direct spending,” said Dan Ballou, Director of Sports Marketing at the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Sandia Peak Ski Area Delays Opening Sandia Peak Ski Area will postpone the start of the 2012-2013 ski season. We were scheduled to open on December 15th, and will announce an opening date as soon as conditions allow. Our snowmakers are working hard and we have had a tremendous start to this year’s snowmaking.
