“It seemed like a good idea at the time, “a frustrated doubles player exclaimed as he missed a stroke down the line. Far too many tennis players will change their mind when it appears (to them) that their initial plan will backfire; so they quickly change their strategy and usually miss their shot. In other words, our first choice is often the best and we must stick to our guns and play to our strengths. Due to a quick moving doubles ‘poacher’, we look at him more than the ball and then, due to aggravation, we hit the ball in a different direction. However, this ‘change of plans’ problem also occurs in the game of singles. Once again, due to quick movements or quick feet, we overplay our hand and alter our shot making. Here is a typical scenario: After the player rips a big groundstroke, he moves into the net and is faced with a high ball. Just as the player is ready to strike the big approach shot, he views his fast-moving opponent into the direction of his stroke and then changes his shot selection and often misses the ball. The key problem is that the offensive player is spending too much time watching his opponent move instead of anticipating the play, his eyes have meandered everywhere but at the ball he is supposed to strike. Winning tennis players continually anticipate the opponent’s moves and he play accordingly. The champion tennis competitor has a clear vision of what he wants to accomplish either before the match or in the early stages of the contest. Most importantly, the successful player has already anticipated the foe moving into the open court to fetch the ball. Nevertheless, the champion sticks with his game plan and rips the ball into the spot where the challenger is moving because he has struck the ball so well, he is not overly concerned that the foe has traveled in the same direction.
Therefore, the title holder is not dismayed by his opponent’s tactics and continues to play his winning hand. Remember, even though a tennis player has moved into the right spot, does not mean he will execute. Without a doubt, one of the biggest problems in tennis is when we move to the area or spot too rapidly as our feet will often get tied up. So, when the player makes the bold move to run fast to the area where the ball is traveling, he often moves there too quickly and loses his fluidity and is unable to hit a winning shot. When we are faced with doubles players who move all around the net, it is prudent to hit the ball in convincing fashion. If we spend the bulk of our time watching the opponent’s rapid movements, we will not focus on the ball and we will fail miserably. Therefore, when we are returning serve and are aware of a ‘poach’ hit the ball firmly and with conviction. Yes, the rivals may hit a good volley but the point is not over as we may have at least two good options: One, we may be reactive and hit a volley past them for the winning point. Two, we may have ample time to place a sneaky lob over the moving net player. Clearly, it is the ultimate challenge when we face aggressive, quick-moving tennis players who are active at the net and volley well. But, if you are calm and collected, you may be able to slow this overly-aggressive team with an abundance of lobs and other practical strokes. The bottom line is to avoid the temptation to alter your stroke at the last second; stay focused and stick to your initial plan and you will succeed.

ingredients: 1 Box white cake mix 3 eggs 1 c vegetable oil 1 c lemon-lime flavored carbonated drink 2 (3 ounce) packages instant pistachio pudding mix 1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 cup cold milk
directions: Combine cake mix eggs, oil, soda drink and 1 box pistachio pudding. Pour batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9 inch pan or 2 round pans or a bundt pan. Bake at 350* for 30 – 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean. Cool completely. While cake is baking, mix 1 box of pistachio pudding, whipped topping, and milk. Chill. Ice cooled cake with chilled frosting.
This cake is great with any pudding flavor. The pistachio pudding is wonderful for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration with its limey green color. I’ve enjoyed this cake, over the years, at my Mother In-laws. The recipe was passed down, to her, from her Mother In-law.

2013 Solid Year for Real Estate At t h e b e g i n n i n g o f t h e y e a r , 7 4 p e r c e n t o f s a l e s w e r e t r a d i t i o n a l Naples, Fla. (January 16, 2014) – All signs point to stabilization for the local housing market as evidenced in the 2013 Annual Market Report released by the Naples Area Board of REALTORS® (NABOR®), which tracks home listings and sales within Collier County (excluding Marco Island). Overall pending and closed sales for homes over $300,000 increased by double digits in 2013. “The first sign of stabilization can be seen in the increase of traditional closed sales for 2013,” said Pat Pitocchi, NABOR® President and Corporate Trainer at Downing-Frye Realty. “At the beginning of the year, 74 percent of sales were traditional, while 26 percent were nontraditional [short sale and foreclosed properties]; but by December, traditional sales rose to 83 percent of all sales leaving 17 percent as non-traditional.” “This report indicates a tremendous market shift from home sales in the under $300,000 category to home sales in the over $300,000 categories,” said Bill Coffey, Broker Manager of Amerivest Realty Naples. “Sales over $300,000 now drive the market. Closed sales of homes in the over $300,000 price categories increased by 22.5 percent in 2013.” According to the report, the overall housing market inched ahead of activity reported in 2012, which was considered a recovery year by market expert Cindy Carroll, SRA, with the real estate appraisal and consultancy firm Carroll & Carroll, Inc. Overall median prices for properties between $300,000 - $2 million leveled off in 2013 with little or no change. However, median prices in the lower-end (under $300,000) and higher-end ($2 million+) increased 16 and 5 percent, respectively. “The report shows a clear and steady demand for housing in Naples,” said Glenn Ginsburg, Broker/Owner of A Delta Realty of Naples, Inc. “The condo market was especially hot in 2013 with the most impressive activity in the $2 million and above category, which realized a 62 percent increase in closed sales from 60 units sold in 2012 to 97 units sold in 2013.” The NABOR® 2013 Annual Report provides comparisons of singlefamily home and condominium sales (via the Southwest Florida MLS), price ranges, and geographic segmentation and includes an overall

The NABOR® Annual 2013 sales statistics are presented in chart format, including these overall (single-family and condominium) findings: • Overall closed sales in both the $300,000 - $500,000 and $2 million and above segments increased 27 percent from 1,366 in 2012 to 1,730 in 2013 and 234 in 2012 to 298 in 2013, respectively. • Median prices for single family homes in the $300,000 and below category increased by 17 percent from $150,000 in 2012 to $175,000 in 2013. • Overall inventory decreased by 18 percent from 6,557 properties in 2012 to 5,403 properties in 2013. • Inventory in the condo market decreased by 23 percent. • Closed sales in the single-family market rose 1 percent, while closed sales in the multi-family or condo market rose 8 percent. “The report indicates the housing market is behaving in a normal manner,” said Mike Hughes, Vice President and General Manager of Downing-Frye Realty. “The solid incremental growth we experienced in 2013, especially in the middle priced markets, is a good sign our housing market has recovered. It’s amazing how color affects and correlates with our feelings and emotions. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be a great opportunity to discuss the psychology of color. Color can make a small room appear spacious or large rooms feel intimate and cozy. Here are five of my favorite hues to consider when designing an interior space.
