When I returned to play professional golf after 8 years of Television and not competing, I developed a couple of bad habits. Both habits resulted in a fade, which soon turned into a slice. I’m sure many of you may have the same problem….so let me show you how I cured those bad habits.

L e t m e I ll u s t r a t e Bad habit number one was “coming over the top” and resulted in pulling left of target (for a right hander). The ball would start left, and hopefully fade back on line. As I progressed, the fade turned into a slice because of the second bad habit, which was that my left side was “out of the way” too soon. So…I became a normal weekend slicer like many amateurs try to avoid. The way I was able to get out of these habits was this drill: I lined up my whole left side with a club placed vertically into the ground. I then moved my right foot well back off of my intended line. From there, when I take the club back, it forces me to take it back on a good plane, and from there, I have to stay inside on the downswing path. There is no way I can possibly come “over the top” from here. Suddenly after a couple of buckets of balls, I re-established my “hit” on the golf ball. It felt very different from the slice action I had developed. The second key to this drill was to “post” into my left side at impact. My left side was now able to stay with the shot… without spinning out of the way. This “posting” also helped me to practice finishing on balance after contact. After all, one needs to finish all the way to his or her left side after the ball is struck. Just practicing this “posting” gave me better balance after contact. This is one of the best drills I have ever used for getting a better swing path, AND better balance at the finish. It may take a bucket of balls or two to get comfortable with this new action, but I guarantee it will help you in swing path and balance when you move back to your normal stance. Good luck, and good golfing.

Emergency Health Care Plan: Are You Ready for a “Healthy” Hurricane Evacuation? Are you ready to leave your home in a moment’s notice in the event of an emergency? If you are mature in years, a care taker, a pet owner, a diabetic, or anyone with advanced medical issues, we want you to have an emergency health care plan. This is the third in our series of hurricane preparedness checklists. The first was physical home evacuation checklist, the second was a financial and legal document checklist. And, now we are addressing what steps to take to be prepared if you have an emergency that requires you to leave your home in a moment’s notice.

Call your local Emergency Management in advance to determine which facilities have generators and accommodations. 3. Fiduciary Responsibility and Caretaker Back Up Plan: If you are helping another individual with their health care, then you should do all the things suggested for you as an individual plus you will need to establish a back-up support system if some foreseeable or unforeseeable event happens to you. 4. Buddy System, Friends and Family: This may be redundant to the other topics above and below; however, it stresses the need to plan ahead and discuss your plans with your family and friends. The good old buddy system from elementary school comes in handy when you least expect it.

1. Medicine, Doctors, Care Plan, Supplies and Health Care Documents: It is essential to have a complete list of your medicines as well as your medical providers with their contact information. Everyone you meet asks for the list, so it makes sense to get a comprehensive list completed. Be sure to make a backup and store the same in at least two different locations in case of a hurricane and the need to exit quickly. Placing the information on a thumb drive is a great idea.

5. Pets, Pets Health, Pet Back up Plan: Pets are a part of our family and the need to plan ahead is equally as important and can be the most stressful under an emergency situation. Where to go and what to take with you is similar to the choices and planning discussed for you and your family. It is suggested that you have at least three days of supplies available at all times in case of an emergency. Checkout FEMA’s Ready Program at www.Ready.gov. Next is a letter explaining your total care plan for your personal health and well-being. This will assist you and others to make provisions in an emergency (e.g., diabetic insulin treatment). The plan should include necessary supplies to take care of you for at least a week. Finally, you need to have a readily available water proof sealable container to take all of these documents and supplies. Can you assemble all of this in a few minutes (what if you fall and had an accident, are these instructions and supplies accessible)? “An ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure.” - Benjamin Franklin.

I was born in Madison, WI and grew up there. It was a great

place for a kid to grow up. We walked to school or took city transit (bus) paying 25 cents per way during Jr High and High School. It was not a small town but not a large city. I loved sledding & ice-skating in the winter and would stay outside until dark and we turned blue. We were scared the snow would melt! My mom would literally drag us into the house. Summers were spent bike riding, swimming and playing badminton with the other neighborhood kids. And of course Madison is the main campus for the University of Wisconsin so there were plenty of Badger football, tailgating, beer & brats.

In your professional work life, did you start in the wedding dress

or fashion design business? How did you first get into the dress/fashion design business?

KELLY:

My first exposure to wedding gowns was while in College at

UW Madison. I worked in a better Women’s Dept store, which had a bridal salon. I did alterations there and this is where I fell in love with wedding gowns. After graduation from FIT in NY I job searched to only design wedding gowns. I got into fashion design to fulfill my childhood dream!
