Gigi’s Children’s Boutique with Kristy Malloy Gigi’s Children’s Boutique is a staple in Naples for children’s fashionable clothing located in the “Mercato” plaza and is owned and operated by Kristy Malloy. Kristy is an innovative fashion expert, an entrepreneur, business owner, and mother of two, who is a wonderful asset to our Naples Community! She just created her own personal line of clothes and accessories, and we wanted to get a glimpse into this special line and its background. interview by
FINE: What is your background in fashion? GIGI’s: I used to buy for Neiman Marcus’ Children’s Department and I also attended Parsons School of Design for Fashion Designing and the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC for Fashion Merchandising. Fashion has always been a passion of mine! FINE: What was your inspiration to start your own children’s clothing line? What about the name? GIGI’s: Ever since I was a little girl its always been a dream of mine to have my own clothing line. When I used to work for Neiman Marcus I did a lot of product development and collaborations with several of our vendors and it was always a lot of fun and inspiring. Opening my own store I missed that creative side of the business so its always been a goal of mine. Every time I go to market I’m always searching and searching for soft, comfortable and fashionable items to put my kids in and never able to find exactly what it is I’m looking for so I decided to create my own clothing line! I named it Grace Addison® after my own daughter, who has this amazing fashion sense and style about her at 4 years old. FINE: What are the sizes and materials for your line? GIGI’s: Grace Addison Collection starts at size 3-6 months and goes up to size 7 for now. I am looking at expanding the sizes as we develop. Its made of bamboo, bamboo french terry, organic cotton and spandex so its super soft and washes and wears well. The collection currently offers infant rompers in both long sleeve and short sleeve, long sleeve & short sleeve 3 button Henley tees, jogger pants, knit front pocket shorts, girls ruffle tunics in both long sleeve and sleeveless, leggings and sundresses.

FINE: What is unique about your pieces? GIGI’s: I think what makes us most unique and special is the fabric. I spent 18 months researching and developing the perfect combination and mix of fabrics and designs. And its all made in the USA! FINE: What is involved in creating a design? GIGI’s: Oh gosh that’s so hard to answer, its definitely a long process, a lot of work and a lot of patience. I had to draw and sketch all of the items myself including the patterns and all of the measurements. Then find a pattern maker willing to take my project and convert my designs into samples. Every detail of the clothing I designed and perfected from the fabric to the buttons, the snaps, pockets, stitching, label, care tags, etc. I have shrink tested all the garments to make sure the designs stay in tact and don’t shrink and I’ve tested them out on my own kids. FINE: Do you have a favorite item? GIGI’s: I really love the boys grey & ivory striped fabric so the infant romper and Henley are my favorites for boys especially with the wood button details and little front pocket and for the girls I’m in love with the sundress and the ruffle long sleeve tunic top. It has the perfect balance of girly and function with the ruffles and bows. FINE: What was the most frustrating and/or most rewarding part of this entire process? GIGI’s: I would say the most frustrating part is the production process. I was so excited to have the samples made, the designs exactly to my liking and all the details well thought out and then it goes into to production and the brakes
hit! Just finding a factory in the US still operating and open today and willing to take my small project was really difficult. I finally find one after all this research and negotiating and then trying to convince them to squeeze my designs into the line up so we can make a deadline was extremely frustrating. I’m just so happy its finally here and my customers can enjoy them and seeing them on my customer’s kids and hearing all the positive feedback has been so rewarding. I love when friends or customers stop me at the grocery store or baseball field and say “do you know I’m obsessed with your stuff and my kids won’t take it off!” Or they say “I brought all the stuff home I bought and showed them everything and their favorite thing was the Grace Addison” I think its a huge feet when the Grace Addison has won over the Under Armour! haha FINE: Have you always had a love for fashion and design? GIGI’s: Yes, ever since I was a little girl. When I was young I would always design clothes for my barbies and cut up my own clothes to redesign them or accessorize with my pajamas. I think anyone that has known me for a long time will always describe me as having a love for fashion. FINE: What is your vision for your line? GIGI’s: I would love to expand our product offerings and make it a staple in kids wardrobe! I’ve already got a few designs in the works...

The grip is an important but often overlooked fundamental part of the golf swing. A correct or incorrect grip will greatly influence the distance, direction, and trajectory of each shot. COSMOS CAFE AND PIZZERIA Ingredients Fregola pasta, 300 g 4 Artichokes 6 Tablespoons of Bottarga 1 Clove of garlic 1 Packet of saffron powder Parsley Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) Salt White wine Preparation – Fregola Pasta Bring 1 Liter of water in a pan to a boil and add the 300 grams of Fregola Pasta Boil for 10 minutes Preparation – Sauce Clean Artichoke Cut artichoke into quarters, or 4 pieces for each artichoke Soak the artichoke quarters in water and lemon juice Chop and mince the 1 clove of garlic In a large saucepan, sauté garlic in 3 Tablespoons of EVOO When brown, add the artichoke quarters Add a pinch of salt Add saffron packet Add a dash of white wine Stir around and sauté briefly Allow simmering for a bit Final Preparation Drain water from Fregola Pasta Add Fregola pasta to the large saucepan with the sauce Stir around and allow to simmer for a few minutes on low heat Add Parsley and Bottarga Ready to serve – 4 people
