Benefits: Increase spinal rotation Stretches mid to upper back Increases the mobility of the shoulder blades Teaches pelvic stability
Starting Position: Sit up with the legs straight and open shoulder width apart. Reach the arms out in front of the torso level with the bottom of the sternum. Sit up on the center of the sit bones. If the hamstrings are too tight to sit up straight, roll the mat up and sit on it or bend the knees.
Movement Sequence: Inhale – Rotate the torso to the right and reach the left arm toward the right foot.
Exhale – Engage the abdominals and roll the head and torso forward reaching the left arm toward the little toe on the right foot. Reach the right arm back while medially rotating the shoulder so the palm faces the ceiling.
Inhale – Return to the starting position with the weight centered on the sit bones and the arms out to the sides. Rotate the torso to the left and reach the right arm toward the left foot. Try reversing the breathing on this exercise by exhaling to roll forward and inhaling to roll back up. Notice how it changes the stretch in the back.
Optimum Form To keep the pelvis in position as you stretch forward in order to stretch the mid and upper back. Repeat this exercise 5 times on each side before playing a round to warm up!

Top Producers and Print Advertising A L u x ury o r Necessity? Circulation • Shelf life • cost and Value In today’s real estate market, there are so many decisions to be made regarding the proper allocation of marketing funds for agents in the top brackets of their respective markets. The web has received significant interest for both prospective buyers in their searches and the listing agents’ concerns to obtain web traffic. What is there to say about print advertising? Many of the top agents feel the need for both print and web in some balance, often only slightly preferring one or the other. An agent that does too much of one and not enough of the other, may be at a competitive disadvantage to their competitors! Print advertising has been and still is the most tangible means of marketing directed to prospective buyers. Regardless of demographic, buyers still want to have something that they can pick up and keep for the purpose of educating themselves on the market, as well as the provision of a means to locate properties by specific area. With this in mind, there are several factors and criterion that are important to analyze before choosing specific marketing mediums to allocate advertising dollars. One: Circulation Does a publication provide distribution to a specific market or target market that the agent is seeking? Or does it provide blanket or somewhat random distribution, playing a numbers game hoping to attract a percentage of readers? Both have benefits, but through experience, the higher-end markets typically are more successful with targeted marketing as to eliminate “wasted” publications that get into the hands of non-qualified buyers. On the other hand, the blanket distribution may appear to reach more prospects but of various different purchasing abilities. This type usually serves a better purpose for properties at or below the median price point in a specific market. Also with regards to circulation, is the publication readily available to acquire? Is there a cost factor for the prospective buyer to receive the publication? Two: Shelf Life Generally speaking, the shelf life of a publication is directly proportional to the quality and content of that publication. Readers are most likely to pick up and retain a publication that demonstrates quality aesthetics as well as the inclusion of the proper content as it relates to the type of market that the publication caters to. The more expensive the look and the feel, the more likely it will be that the reader will not throw the magazine away! Furthermore, when the publication offers helpful,
50
pleasing or informational content, it will be more likely to remain in the hands of the prospect as she may cycle back periodically for that very reason. Three: Cost and Value Having mentioned the first two criterion for assessing the utility of a marketing publication, cost and value are perhaps the most essential factor in an agent’s decision making process. As far as cost, every agent typically has an allotted budget for marketing. When putting advertising dollars into print, it is essential that the publication is priced competitively, if not aggressively versus the alternative options. However, cost alone should not be the defining factor of the decision as Value for those advertising dollars is the quintessential element. Value is provided when the cost factor falls below the perceived and received benefits of the publication. For instance, is the dollar cost figure compatible with the home owner’s property being marketed in a tangible fashion which is pleasing to that seller? Keeping sellers content is an ongoing task of the real estate listing agent. Making the correct choices for the dollar cost outlay is continuously a challenge. Does the cost factor substantiate the concept of the agent being focal to the public in the designated circulation points of the publication? This is extremely important to the top agent, as the perception of the agent being everywhere in the consumers mind translates to the conception that she is! Name recognition is one of the most valuable assets to the top agent and should be assessed in the dollar cost of choosing a specific publication. Will that publication put the agent in the “right light” in the eyes of the consumers? Finally, the ever important phone call from the magazine!! This is the icing on the cake but surely should never be the expected standard. Much of this depends upon the audience that the publication reaches through its circulation. This is the direct benefit of print advertising as the previous two are the indirect benefits, and much more attainable and expected. Conclusion I have always believed and have shared with my top agents that regardless of web marketing, they need to allocate some substantial marketing dollars to print advertising. This is the sure way for the agent to reach the hands of the prospect, be on their coffee tables and most importantly in their minds!! Good luck top agents and find the right fit for your market. Fine Photo tips
the local economy. This influence led to her desire to create art that reflected the love story of a generation who appreciate and respect automotive history. Barrow’s approach is marked by precise attention to every detail. Her art delivers an interweaving of many elements with an ability to draw out each layer that is combined to make each piece resonate. Her depictions hit on the heartstrings, as a vehicle was a major part of every family’s milestones. Barrow carefully constructs abstract art that taps into the viewer’s emotional core. My experience of photographing Karen Barrow painting in her studio, in her element, watching the art work spring forth as she tamed and manipulated it made me realize how crucial it is to capture these moments properly. Otherwise, that spark that makes your subject so unique will be snuffed by their surroundings. Applying the following tips while taking photos will highlight the passion that makes each of us truly shine. Change Your Viewpoint: Take in consideration your viewpoint. How many different ways can you view something by getting above or below your subject? You add an entirely new perspective purely based on where you’re positioned. By standing back away from your subject, you are not always able to capture the nuances that might drive the appreciation for the piece or the activity. By getting too close, you might not be able to identify what you’re looking for. No matter the activity or the artistry, finding an angle and creating your own viewpoint is key. Shooting from below allows the subject to dominate, while shooting from above softens its authority. Find an angle that empowers the subject while allowing the action or art to be illuminated. Minimize Distractions: While attempting to highlight something, your best asset is the ability to delete the superfluous details. Chaos and clutter only add confusion to your main point. When things become a jumble in your image, it only detracts from your major focus. By keeping symmetrical and fluid lines, we eliminate unnecessary elements that only obscure your final impact.

capture the Passion
Often we take many photos without an authentic vision of the story we wish to tell. While having many snapshots can document an event, it’s easy to miss the chance to highlight the qualities that make something distinctive or unique, those certain details that make a moment truly incomparable. I recently shadowed local artist Karen Barrow who was just featured at Florida Fashion Week for her latest automotive series, “Driven to Abstraction.” I wanted to observe her passion while creating her art, and explore how, as a photographer, I could truly depict that love through a picture. Barrow’s admiration of cars is derived from a mid-Michigan upbringing where automotive manufacturing drove
Frame the Shot: It’s essential to frame up your subject. We draw attention to a picture by putting it in a frame. Why wouldn’t you take the natural landscape of things to frame your subject, whether trees in a forest, or shelves in an art studio? By taking natural composition into consideration, we are drawing the outside world in to focus on the main subject. Cut it Out: When in doubt, crop it out. If something isn’t supporting your main subject, or too much negative space is taking away the impact of your subject, remove it. By cropping out unnecessary items and deleting dead space, we regain the attention of the fleeting eye. We guide the viewer back to where we want the focus to be, and eliminate any excuse for distraction. In short, if your one goal is to highlight the passion someone has for an activity, your best bet is to focus on the subject. When the love is clearly written on their face, fill the frame. Get as close to the subject as you can, without breaking the moment. The simplest photos capture their joy and allow you to take it with you. If you’re a Florida resident and have a home here as your primary residence, you may be missing out on a significant exemption that could save you a lot of money. That’s why it’s smart to be sure you have applied for the state’s Homestead Exemption and Save our Homes (SOH) on the residence. The deadline for proof of Florida residency is December 31, and the deadline for filing your application with the county property appraiser is March 1.
If you own a residence in another state, you may also wish to file a Declaration of Domicile with the Clerk of Courts, proving that you are a Florida resident and your Florida residence is your primary home. Also, you are allowed to apply for homestead in one state only, so if your spouse is homesteaded elsewhere and you plan to apply for SOH in Florida, he or she will have to give up their homestead. We are hopeful this will not result in you being relegated to lonely nights on the living room sofa in your newly minted homesteaded castle.
What is the Homestead Exemption and SOH?
When and Where to Apply for Homestead Exemption and SOH?
The homestead exemption allows for reduction of up to $50,000 from the assessed value of your qualifying residence. Once you obtain the exemption, you’ll benefit either from the SOH three percent cap on annual assessment increases on the property, or the percentage change in Consumer Price Index, whichever is less. If you’re keeping score, it may be interesting to know that the SOH annual increase has fluctuated from 0.1 percent (in 2009) to 3 percent (six times since 1997). That’s an average annual increase of approximately two percent since the amendment went live in 1995.
New applications for the homestead exemption for the current year must be made before March 1 at the Property Appraiser’s office in the county where your residence is located. Some counties require homeowners to apply in person. Other counties allow you to mail in your application or apply online. Check your county’s property appraiser’s office for details: • Collier County Property Appraiser’s website www.collierappraiser.com • Lee County Property Appraiser’s website www.leepa.org. So if you recently moved to Florida, first off congratulations! Now it’s time to make another great decision if you want to make the Sunshine State your domicile and apply for SOH now because 2014 is right around the corner. Let’s face it, who doesn’t like significant tax savings over time, especially when the market is heating up here in paradise!
Take note that the property’s market value may differ from the SOH assessed value, and that assessed value will never be greater than market value. So the market value can sky rocket, but the assessed value for real estate tax purposes is limited by the cap — saving you valuable dollars on property taxes. Who is eligible for the Homestead Exemption and SOH? To qualify for the homestead exemption and SOH on your qualifying Florida residence, you must be a permanent Florida resident as of January 1 in the year you wish to apply. You will be required to show proof of residency, and the property appraiser’s office will require the following items:

Chipping Around the Green... As Easy As the ABC’s & “y” Challenge: 35 - 50 ft chip shot from off of the green You hit a good drive, and then hit an approach shot to the green, but miss the green and end up just off the green in the rough. How do you hit a good chip shot to get the ball close to the hole? What is the strategy? Hit it high and stop the ball, or let the ball roll? What club do you select? at address
Here are some helpful tips for this type of shot: Professional golfers can control the spin of the ball and the distance of the roll after the ball lands. Most amateurs cannot do this. The strategy of the amateur golfer should be to get the ball on the green as soon as possible and let the ball roll on the green towards the cup, using the slope and contour of the green to your advantage. backswing
Select a Gap Wedge or 52º club Keep your weight on your forward foot Place the ball in the middle to back of your stance Keep your hands forward in front of the club at address and contact, impact
Swing like a pendulum, going back to about 8 O’Clock and forward to about 4 O’Clock the same distance back as forward in your swing
Keep your hands and arms in the “y” position at address, in your backswing, and in your follow-through – the entire shot in the “y” position
Hit down on the ball. Do not try to scoop the ball up or shift your weight to your back foot. follow through
The secret is to keep your hands and the arms in the “y” position through the entire shot!
