PUBLISHER’S LETTER

The Culture and Vibrancy of San Diego Arts Dear Readers, As the racing season at Del Mar comes to a close, we bid adieu to the fanfare and seaside ambiance of summer in Southern California once again; from Opening Day and the $1 Million Pacific Classic at the tracks, to the cocktail whites of the La Jolla Summer White Party and the 65th celebration of the Las Patronas Jewel Ball – we realize that summer was indeed, not long enough! With a truly inspired [and inaugural] Art Issue for FINE magazine, we welcome ‘Arts Month San Diego’ to fete the vibrancy and diversity of our local arts scene. This month we bring you the runway fashions of Adolfo Sanchez, the glamour and splendor of the Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park, fine art selections from local artists and dining at The Prado, to name a few. Also of note, ‘Arts Month San Diego’ offers a number of art fairs and walk events, including: Art San Diego Contemporary Fair September 1-4, Hilton San Diego Bayfront Web: artsandiego-fair.com Art Walk on the Bay – A Fine Arts Festival September 10-11, Hilton San Diego Bayfront Web: artwalkonthebay.com Coronado Art Walk 2011 September 17-18, Coronado Village & Spreckels Park Web: coronadoartwalk.org [ For additional events this month, please reference our calendar on page 17 for review. ] In addition, I’d like to personally thank our partners and all who attended our 3rd Annual ‘Polo for a Purpose’ event during the USPA Rosemore Cup at the Del Mar Polo Fields. The event was a success on all fronts, and we were able to greatly help Kids Korps USA in the process. For events photos and a recap, visit us online at www.FINEsd.com. As always, friend us on Facebook for daily discussions; keep in-the-know with FINE magazine and gain behind-the-scenes access to our fashion shoots, events and of course, our partners.

2nd Annual La Jolla Fashion Film Festival Hosted by the Contemporary Museum of Art Photography courtesy of Jon Medel Red stilettos, black cocktail dresses, fashionistas and fashionados graced the red carpet and made their appearance at this year’s 2nd Annual La Jolla Fashion Film Festival at the Contemporary Museum of Art. Fashion personalities including fashion directors and fashion designers, writers and photographers, models and actors, and industry professionals participated in this new artistic and avant-garde genre of portraying fashion through film. This movement of presenting fashion through this type of medium rather than the traditional print has been progressively receiving avid attention within the fashion world. Audiences took in the pleasure of viewing films from the likes of iconic fashion moguls such as Karl Lagerfeld and other fashion directors such as Miguel Jacob and Marie Kristiansen - just to name a few, showcasing their films at this year’s festival. The two-day fashion festivities closed with a cocktail reception at BarFly Nightclub to celebrate this new artistic expression merging art, film, and fashion. Web: ljfff.com
