meditation walking Walking meditation is the practice of walking and meditating simultaneously. It is equally as profound as seated meditation, with the added benefit of incorporating exercise.
As you lift your foot from the ground, take a deep exhale. As you lower your foot to the ground, release the breath
Remain aware of your surroundings, try and stay in the present moment. Try not to allow the mind to drift off, concentrate on the senses, take note of any smells around you, notice how the ground feels underneath you.

and fear of old age
becoming increasingly popular as a trend, whilst the upkeep of a healthy lifestyle is similarly on the rise. My aim is to combine the two in order to create a product that caters for both the mind and the body simultaneously. I intend to research various factors to gain insight into how to design a product to cater for this need.
I conducted a survey in order to gain some insight into walking meditation. I wanted to understand if people were aware of it, interested in participating or had no interest at all...
would you be open to the idea of

objective The key aim of my research is to gather an understanding of what is necessary in order for me to design a range of activewear for the specific use of meditation walking. In order for me to understand how the clothing should be constructed with regard to shape, material and function, I need to understand the body
MOTION ++ MOVEMENT
Observing the motion of walking in this way proved to be invaluable, giving me an insight into what kind of material and shape walking apparel should be. I gained an understanding of where the material needs to allow for movement, as well as areas that is is necessary for the garment to be more fitted .
consumer research
I found that it was important to understand the kind of garment the customer needed. I conducted a survery to discover what kind of apparel the majority of people preferred to walk in and why.
who is the customer
ANyone interested in fitness and health
I encouraged people of all ages and genders to participate in the survey, as I wanted to understand if this kind of product would appeal to a particular type of person.
what are they looking for
”something that does not look like sports+ wear - more discreet and casual” ”Options that are not too tight, I ‘m quite body conscious and like to cover up as much as i can without getting too warm”
My research found that the majority of people are most comfortable walking in lightweight, waterproof
casual
clothing, with both fitted and loose-fit options available. It was interesting to understand that when walking for leisure, there appears to be a lot of demand for functional sportswear with a casual aesthetic, a more fashion led and less obviously athletic look.

From the outside, the mandala appears to be decorative, but it is actually a secret pocket disguising the wearers mobile phone. There is a headphone ‘chakara’ port sewn inside the lining in the centre of the garment, with a small velcro openeing at the top of the mandala to allow the wearer easy access to their mobile whilst participating in meditation exercies.
When considering the design for my logo, I found it important that it represented not only meditation but the ideology of meditating in motion. I arrived at the name ‘GOMED’ by combing the words ‘go’ and ‘meditate’, which I felt remained illustrative of action.

I designed the app for GOMED with a sense of simplicity in mind. I used a pale green as the key colour theme as I found it had a stronger sense of calm over alternative colours. The home page design features different sections for the user to access such as overall health, meditation exercises, nearby walking routes and a diary.
