REINVENTING THE 1920’S

DESIGNER RESEARCH VIONNET Vionnet’s creations were a total work of art. She was a pure creator as she had a strong understanding for proportion and balance. Her key colours were black, ivory, beige, brown, vibrant green and rose pink. She brought to couture absolute expertise in the use of the bias or fabric cut on the cross so that it has a pull and a fall. She used the bias in many ways for halters and cowl necklines, petal skirts, skirts fluttering with four corners of fabric that looked like handkerchiefs. Vionnet was one of the most admired and important dressmakers of the twentieth century.

CONTEMPORARY INFLUENCES THE GREAT GATSBY The Baz Luhrman’s remake of the Great gatsby certainly inspired fashion & culture as prada created the beautiful costumes for this film. Prada then showcased the costumes in its New York Store.

THE ARTIST French slient film The Artist (2011) follows the difficult transition from silent film to talkies during the 20s.

SOLAR ACTIVE

NETATMO JUNE - A diferent kind of wearable technology that is fitted with a bluetooth device, which is fitted with UV sensors that alerts users when UV levels are high. Useful for those who are prone to burning. With technologys becoming smaller this enables us to use advanced technologys in items such as beads. With this in mind my bag designs are fitted with beads that react to UV lights. Changing colour when put into sunlight.

WRITTEN EVALUATION

Task One - Northern Housing Consortium Group Project: Firstly, I found it very daunting when choosing a brief for task one, as I was out of my comfort zone with having very little knowledge about the each subject area. I decided to choose Northern Housing Consortium as past family members of mine had past away due to this illness. I wanted to learn more about the illness and how I could help as a designer. Starting the project was difficult due to the amount of knowledge we needed to gain to be able to understand what needs where missing in the industry for the dementia patient. I feel completing project has helped me develop skills to stop me thinking so narrow-minded and literal. Another main skill I developed was team working. Overall as a group we all worked very well together using all of our individual strengths to get the best outcome for this project. I thoroughly enjoyed this project as I discovered a keen interest in creating digital prints; this was part of our final outcome that I would like to have been able to get our final outcome printed into a sample pack of wallpapers. Task Two – Reinventing the 1920’s From discovering finding a new interest task one I decided to develop my own prints based around the 1920’s, an era I find very inspiring. Initially I found this project challenging trying to recreate something relevant for today. As a learner I have identified that it takes me sometime to get into my projects and this is due to me doubting my own ideas and having a fear of failing. Recognising this is an area I need to improve on going into fourth year. Going forward I would create more textiles and textures to help inform the development of my print design.
