W
e are pleased to announce that Indigenous Fashion Unearthed is taking a giant leap forward and are now partaking in the 2013 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, to be held in Docklands on September 4, 2013. After a fantastic debut event of unparalleled success at the worldfamous Spiegeltent at Melbourne Arts Centre in March of this year, we have decided to take the leap in search of new opportunities. In this fashion show, you will still see the fundamental elements of Indigenous Fashion Unearthed –
a world class production, the hottest new and emerging designers and models, and an exclusive slice of Indigenous Australia’s fashionable elite. The theme for this runway is ‘Generations’ and IFU are both blessed and excited to have Austr alia’s first Indigenous model (and one of the original Sapphires), Lois Peeler, opening the show. This is a unique event introducing a collaboration of Indigenous talents in various genres within the fashion industry from backstage to the runway. The Indigenous Spring Fashion Runway provides a platform for Indigenous global fashion

designers, models, make-up artists, hairstylists and fashion stylists to showcase their works. “A fashion show is typically a fantasy – it is clothes we can’t usually afford worn by women with
bodies we will never have. This fashion show is taking that fantasy and grounding it in an Indigenous reality. We are restructuring the very notion of what a runway show is without losing the high-end fashion result. It’s going to be so special and creative and I could not be more thrilled about it,” said Indigenous Fashion Unearthed Creative Director and Co-Founder, Tina Waru. The Indigenous Spring Fashion Runway promotes Indigenous fashion, thus providing a place where kindred cultures can come together to blend contemporary fashion with tradition. T his in turn creates a pathway for Indigenous young people to aspire to, ensuring our mission of Indigenous arts promotion, ethnic diversity, acceptance and positive image remain strong. Left.
