SPOTLIGHT COLLECTION ON CANNES RED CARPET Ralph & Russo’s latest collection heralds the promise for renewal and frisson of youth. All is dreamlike and weightless, echoed in billowing crêpe capes, airy bell sleeves and clouds of gazar. Tender ribbons of organza in powdery shades are pin-tucked into geometric waves, cascading over mighty corolla trains light as butterfly wings. Erogenous is the waist; a defined line wherefrom abundant volumes unfurl. Peplums, architectural and graphic, bring a modern definition to the quintessential hourglass of the 1950s. Corseted bustiers gesture at pin-up glamour, sharpening silhouettes beneath sheer, diaphanous robes. The shoulders are aphrodisiacs, at times gracefully bared by graphic and precise cut-outs in fluid kimonos, at others enveloped by infinitely fragile feather boleros. In dazzling masterpieces of intricate technique, vast surfaces are fully adorned, yet retaining an exquisite delicacy.
Organza petal appliqué glistens with crystal dewdrops amidst three dimensional silk threadwork. Micro paillette underlayers shimmer through geometric cut outs, recalling the iridescence of natural grey pearls. Crystal drops shower column dresses with effervescent sparkle. Hand painted peonies and tulips in sapphire, blush pink and lavender grey, flow like wild grass in a continuous ink line with multiple densities, evoking Chinese ancestral calligraphy. Bold strokes that at times are encrusted like jewels, at others diffuse like the summer mist. Spiderwebs of Chantilly lace in dreamcatcher dresses trickle over the body, sometimes spun to the floor. Every now and then, a petal or feather gets caught trembling in the scented midnight breeze. This collection brings a new aesthetic, reconciling a regal demeanour with a douceur de vivre in a sublimely subtle blend of tradition and modernity. First Class Magazine

The dynamic duo’s next objective was entry into fashion’s most coveted club, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Making fashion history for Ralph & Russo, they became the first British label in almost a century to show on the official Paris Haute Couture Week schedule. The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture is the governing body that protects this French sector and determines, to excruciatingly high criteria, which labels may be eligible to become true couture houses. Announcement of Ralph & Russo’s membership into the closed circle, secured their status as a luxury label to be reckoned with. “We expect savoir faire, which is being lost, and Ralph & Russo have it” reported Didier Grumbach, the Federation’s President. With the new bestowal came a Parisian showroom on Rue Francois 1er, placing Ralph & Russo astride two fashion capitals: London and Paris. With the combined fortes of Ralph’s passion for perfection and commitment to fantasy and Russo’s management and intuition for hiring the best executives, Ralph & Russo is a brand amply resourced to become a luxury powerhouse.

At the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the audience took their seats and were surrounded by screens from every angle. An adventure in the digital world that we currently experience. Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of the brand, presents a collection in which technology and fashion are intertwined to create a style far beyond our reality. Thus defined the recent collection where leather, embossed with metallic applications, platforms, skirts and shorts are combined with a touch of masculinity whose color palette is focused on black, and blends with more vibrant colors and original prints.
The punk jacket, a repeated theme this season by various designers, is covered with etchings, and its most gorgeous personification: leather coats intricately painted and partially concealed with the Monogram. One of the pieces that most attracted attention were the Bermuda pants, made in patches with dither that break the usual classism of the brand and talks about a strong woman who is in search of her individuality. Considered to be one of the most famous and well paid models in the world, Gisele Bündchen walked the most sought after runways, was photographed by the best photographers, worked with the best designers and has been featured on countless covers during her successful career of being a supermodel. Monique Lhuillier designs capture the essence of sophisticated luxury by provoking femininity, allure and glamour that have made her renowned in the world of design. Monique’s innate sense of style is prevalent throughout her ready-to-wear, accessories and bridal collections.
In 1995, while searching for her own bridal gown, Monique was surprised by the lack of fashionable bridal options. This void in the market reignited her passion to create couture bridal gowns that transcended styles available to women in search of the perfect dress.
Monique visited the city to present her collection and to raise funds for cancer research, "This city holds a very special place in my heart." Her love for fashion has been a lifelong passion. Growing up in the Philippines, Monique’s early experiences with fashion took place alongside her mother, whose own sense of personal style and elegance were major influences for the designer. Enamored by fashion, Monique was encouraged to pursue her dream of becoming a designer. At a young age, she moved to Los Angeles to devote time to her craft and attend the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising. The delightful fantasy of special occasions, as well as strong and confident women with great traditions, has always inspired Monique Lhuillier. While studying at FIDM, this natural inclination towards bridal and evening gowns led Monique to her niche. It was also during her time at FIDM that Monique met her husband, Tom Bugbee.
While Monique’s career began in bridal, feminine and modern design intuition has allowed the brand to evolve into a go-to for elegant ready-to-wear. Monique appreciates that luxury can be whimsical and playful, allowing the brand to become a destination for women who understand the art of fashion. In 1982, Jana volunteered with the Harris County Heritage Society giving tours through the Sam Houston houses. From that point on, she has been involved with many philanthropies from the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, Junior League, Kappa Kappa Gamma Charitable Foundation, Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, Ronald Mc Donald House, Alley Theatre, Crohn’s and Colitis, March of Dimes, Houston Ballet, Salvation Army and Hermann park along with others! She married John Scott Arnoldy 11 years ago. A man she says is very much a give back. Finding wisdom in her husband’s family motto, “leaving a place better than you found it,” inspired her. Spending a great amount of time making Houston a better place, she considers a third of her life completely given to charity, and is great at giving back to the community.

Jana Arnoldy grew up in El Paso, Texas as a tall, young and
slender girl, whose parents got her involved with horses. Her love for being an equestrian, gave her self-confidence and identity, and directed her passion towards giving and charity. Graduating from Southern Methodist University, Jana married and moved to Houston. She grew to love the city and found that it was very welcoming, diversified and accepting of differences and individual gifts.

Having people in her home, entertaining and organizing Balls is definitely her cut of cloth. “I’m happy doing it and I feel blessed that we can do it.” Now, they chair all of the major balls including the Symphony Ball and the Opera Ball. Every one of them she claims as an adventure, and all of the people that she meets make it all worthwhile. She has been told that the ability to raise a million dollars or so, to help children and their families, is a good thing, and sees it as a good day’s work. Being such a positive and upbeat person, it’s no surprise she always sees the glass half full. Jana is an amazing influential woman who is an active member of our society, and still finds time for her growing family of five children and a new grandson. She has figured out who she is and what she loves and puts on her welcoming smile. She takes great care of herself and is thrilled for what she has and who she’s become.
