First India Bureau

New Delhi: The Court on Wednesday asked jailed Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain to ap proach the trial court to challenge the pro ceedings against him in a criminal defama tion complaint. BJP leader Chhail Bihari Goswami had filed a defamation complaint against Jain and sev eral other AAP leaders, claiming the accused had levelled defamato ry remarks against him in connection with funds of the NDMC.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma allowed Jain to withdraw his plea chal lenging the orders by a magisterial court here and granted him liberty to approach the trial court by way of a revi

Senior advocate Re becca John, appearing for Jain, said the peti tioner filed the plea be cause no case was made out to proceed against him as his alleged state ments do not fulfil the ingredients to constitute the offence of defama tion. Goswami, who was the chairperson of the Standing Committee of

Ratna’,

election sloganeering

New Delhi: As the poll battle for MCD heats up, the political lingo is also taking up quirky tones and colours. The intensifying campaign ing spree by parties is seeing high-pitched de rision and ridicule of each other, aptly being supported by slapstick jargon.

While the BJP has flown down its top lead ership from various states to corner AAP with choicest epithets like 'Dhokha Ratna' and 'Kattar Beiman', AAP too has called the BJP a 'video-making company' and 'mountain of fail ures' . These verbal vol leys have only upped the ante ahead of the De cember 4 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls.

The BJP has been in power in the MCD since 2007. During its 15-yearrun at its helm, the par ty has seen the civic body trifurcated into NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC (2012-2022), and its reunification earlier this year.

Several chief minis ters and Union minis ters have stumped for BJP candidates in the past few weeks, raising the fever pitch while engaging in political at tacks, with the AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal often in the

Madhya Pradesh

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Mon day blasted the Delhi CM on corruption, say ing Kejriwal should get a "Dhokha Ratna" for creating a "mess" and bringing ignominy to the national capital.

Campaigning for the BJP candidates, he said, "We have heard about the Great Wall of China... Kejriwal has now become the 'cor ruption wall'."

Chouhan also slammed the AAP con venor for defending his

ministers — Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain.

"It is amusing that Ke jriwal demanded Bharat Ratna for Satyendar Jain and Manish Siso dia. Kejriwal should be given 'Dhokha Ratna Puraskar' and Sisodia 'Sharab Ratna Pursakar' for the existing condi tion of Delhi," he said.

Citing leaked videos of Satyendar Jain from Tihar jail that showed him taking a massage in his cell, the senior BJP leader said, "He (Jain) should get the 'Ghotala and Massage Ratna'."

One of them, in a yellow t-shirt — identified as Joginder Singh — took out a revolver, bran dished it in the air and pointed it out towards the camera," police said.

India’s former coach Ravi Shastri has set off a big buzz by suggesting that Team In dia should give Sanju Sam son far more opportunities.

Team India’s former coach has urged selectors, BCCI and the team management to support Samson for 10 straight matches before tak ing a final decision on his future highlighting the injus tice that has dogged the in ternational career of the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals side in the IPL.

ing with India’s white-ball squad. Despite many seniors missing, Samson was not picked for any of the three T20 games against the Kiwis.

Nearly 33 years ago, India’s legendary cricketer, Mohinder Amarnath had famously called the selectors “a bunch of jokers.” It’s a pithy phrase that has been frequently used for Indian selectors since then. In looking at the curious case of mishandling the career of Sanju Samson, most Indian fans would tend to agree with Amarnath’s assessment even today!

Sanju Samson fans have often accused the national selectors of ruining an in credible talent like him. Most experts feel that the ‘Kerala King’ has not been given enough chances to cement his place in the Indian team. Samson was in tremendous form this year but the selec tors didn’t pick him in the squad for the T20 World Cup or for the Asia Cup. This has happened in a year where he had a fine IPL season and led Rajasthan Royals to their first final since 2008 when the Royals under Shane Warne won the inaugural IPL cham pionship.

How shabbily Sanju often gets treated is clear even from the New Zealand trip where the 28-year-old is tour

CONG REFUSES TO LEARN FROM PAST

In the first ODI game, he was picked and scored 36 runs from 38 balls after batting at number 6 and forged a cru cial 94-run stand with Shreyas Iyer which helped India reach an over-300 total. After New Zealand won the first ODI, Samson was dropped again - for the sake of getting an extra bowler. The team management in cluded batting all-rounder Deepak Hooda in place of Sanju for the next two ODI games – for Hooda as a parttime spinner could provide cushion to the other five bowlers. This further adds fuel to the fans’ anger about Sanju being treated unfairly in Team India. Given how much cricket Suryakumar Yadav has played lately, he could have been rested to give a fair chance to Samson in the middle order on the New Zealand tour. The series was an ideal time to give Saju con tinuous game-time in the middle after years of sporad ic chances but the opportu nity was wasted.

Sanju made his interna tional debut in 2015 but since then, he’s been given very few chances. For the T20 World Cup in 2024, the choice of keeper-batsman will be be tween Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Samson. Though Sanju was the first to get se lected, he has played much less games than the other

two. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has appeared in just 16 T20Is for India. Even Ishan Kishan has played three more T20Is than Samson, while Rishabh Pant has played a huge 66 games for the country.

In contrast to Pant who is going through a torrid time in white-ball games, Sanju scored 179 runs in the six T20Is he has played in 2022, averaging nearly 45 at a strike rate of 158.40. In ODIs, Samson has a career average of 66 but this year he aver ages 71 at a strike rate of 109 in 9 innings. His stats reveal that Sanju has done exceed ingly well in the limited chances he’s got but the team management has hardly

done justice to him.

Moreover, Samson has al ways been the kind of player who doesn’t waste balls, plays impact innings and can change the course of a match in a matter of a few balls. As a dynamic batter, Sanju can be sent in both at the start of the innings or in the middle order. Despite being a wicketkeeper, he’s an outstanding fielder in the outfield.

Sadly, Sanju does not fig ure even in the squads an nounced for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh where India plays 3 ODIs before a 2-Test series. As such, he now has to wait for the IPL to showcase his talent.

Given the dismal losses in the last two T20 World Cups, Team India needs to change its style of play from con servative to aggressive and Samson fits that narrative perfectly. At a time when In dia needs to rebuild its T20 team and prepare a strong squad for the ODI World Cup in 2023, Samson de serves an extended run in Team India.

Nearly 33 years ago, India’s legendary cricketer, Mohin der Amarnath had famously called the selectors “a bunch of jokers.” It’s a pithy phrase that has been frequently used for Indian selectors since then. IRANIANS FIND NOVEL WAYS TO PROTEST AGAINST THEIR GOVT

Ravana and Sur panakha made their entry in Guja rat’s political lexi con. While Ravana made its debut, Surpanakha, the demon king’s sister appar ently debuted much earlier.

Both the terms should have been avoided, especially the one likening Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the mytho logical king of Lanka. Compar ing Modi to Ravana lowered the dignity of the prime minis ter and harmed the prospects of the Congress.

election looking at his face. The comment won’t help the Congress as it has lost sub stantial ground and because Gujarat is Modi’s home turf where he has made the BJP invincible. It has also exposed Kharge’s lack of knowledge about Ramayan’s characters---

Ravana had ten heads, not 100! The BJP hit out at the Con gress. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the barb reflected Congress’s despera tion and showed the party was out to defame Gujaratis. Oth er BJP leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad and Amit Malviya, the party’s IT cell chief also attacked Kharge and his party. The Congress does not look at the remark as a self goal. Instead, Kharge be ing a Dalit, the party leaders brought in Dalit politics in their war of words after he was called “fringe” by the BJP. Renuka Chaudhary, former Union minister, joined the is sue alleging that Modi called her a Surpanakha. The Con gress has forgotten how costly Sonia Gandhi’s “maut ke sau dagar” jibe proved earlier.

It has been a few months now, Iran is in turmoil over the death of Mahsa Ami ni on September 16. Women spearheaded the pro tests in the beginning but were later joined by the masses. The unrest has been the centre of global attention as it is challeng ing the clerics and the stringent Islamic laws like wearing of hi jab. The protests have now got nationwide support and people are ready to face bullets and jail as a consequence.

Burning of head scarves by women and teenage girls was just one of the methods. Iran’s soccer team showed a passive form of protest when they did not sing their country’s national anthem at the start of one of their matches at the FIFA World Cup soccer in Qatar.

What will really hit the Ira nian government hard is the widespread celebration in sev eral parts of Iran over their loss to the US, their sworn enemy, in their match on Wednesday.

DILEMMA ON DATES

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of BSF Com mandant (Medical) Karnail Singh who was among the 24 people charge-sheeted by the CBI in the police sub-inspector recruitment scam in the Union territory. The CBI arrested Singh on October 18 for allegedly using touts to get his son the question paper of the recruitment examination conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

DMK TO SC: CENTRE STEP MOTHERLY

New Delhi: The DMK has told the Supreme Court that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019 is “arbitrary” as it only considers religious minorities from 3 countries while keeping Sri Lankan Tamils staying in India as refugees. The Central govt has “categorically remained silent to the plight of the Ta mil refugees. Step-motherly behaviour of Respondent No.1 (Centre) towards the Tamil refugees has left them living in constant fear of deportation,” stated the affidavit filed by DMK.

When and where will Congress hold AICC session?

Shamsher Singh

New Delhi: The steer ing committee of the Congress will decide when and where the AICC session will be held to finalize the name of Mallikarjun Kharge. But informed leaders of the party say that the convention may be held by the end of February or at the most it will be held in the first week of March. This is being said on the basis that Rahul Gan dhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra

is coming to an end in the first week of Febru ary. If there is no hin drance in the journey, it will reach Srinagar be tween February 5 and 7 and Rahul Gandhi will return to Delhi after hoisting the tricolor there. The party wants the momentum created by his visit to be con tinue for several months more, if not weeks, and the Con gress wants to take ad vantage of this in next year’s assembly elec tions.

According to in formed sources in the Congress, the conven tion will be held in the break between the end of Rahul Gandhi’s yatra and the budget session

of Parliament. The budget session of Parlia ment begins towards the end of January and from the second week there is a one-month break. So, the time is

from the third week of February to the second week of March. Along with this, the party has to decide where the con vention will be held. As sembly elections are due in Kharge’s home state Karnataka in May next year, where the Con gress is hoping to return to power. That’s why Kharge’s name should be stamped by holding a convention in Karnata ka itself. If Congress makes it a big event, the party will surely get benefit in the elections.

Elections are also to be held in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh next year. But elections will be held in both the states at the end of the year and Congress had organized Nav Sankalp Shivir this year in Udaipur city of Ra jasthan. That’s why there is less possibility of convention in these states. If Congress does not want to make it a big event and wants to keep a low profile, then it can be organized in Delhi or Haryana.

Is criminality AAP’s way of coming to power?

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has adopt ed all the ‘old methods’ of politics. The party has no problem in dis tributing tickets on the basis of religion and caste, nor does it have any problem in giving tickets to people with criminal antecedents to win elections. All par ties doing traditional politics give priority to winning candidates while selecting candi dates but at the same time take care of some ethics. But the Aam Aadmi Party has gone so far ahead in selecting winnable candidates

that it has fielded candi dates with a maximum criminal record in the Gujarat assembly elec tions and the municipal elections in Delhi.

In Gujarat, polling is to be held on 89 seats in the first phase, and out of these 89 seats, AAP has given 32 candidates who have criminal cas es against them. Out of these, there are 26 can didates who have seri ous criminal cases against them. Similarly, out of 250 candidates of the Municipal Corpora tion of Delhi, 45 candi dates of AAP have a criminal record & more than 20 of them have serious criminal cases.

BJP ENDED LAWLESSNESS IN GUJARAT: SHAH

Organisations like PFI will not be tolerated; Centre, other states may consider anti-radicalisation cell

Ahmedabad: In an in terview to PTI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, the all-round development of Gujarat during his tenure as the state chief minister, and the imple mentation of zero ap peasement policy as the main reasons for people repeatedly reposing faith in the BJP over the last 27 years.

“The BJP will regis ter an unprecedented victory in Gujarat. Peo ple have full faith in our party and our leader Prime Minister Naren dra Modi,” said Shah, who has been criss crossing the state and addressing five rallies a day in the run-up to the two-phase polls on De cember 1 and 5.

On Congress, Shah

said, “It is still the main opposition party, but the party is going through a crisis, and its impact is visible in Gu jarat as well.” Asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Shah said sustained efforts are a must in politics.

“I have always been of the view that politi cians need to be hard working and it is good when someone works hard. But in politics only sustained efforts show results. So let’s wait and see,” he said.

Shah, who has been talking about issues of national security in the campaign for the state election, said they are important in every as sembly poll. The Oppo sition has accused the BJP of raising national issues like terrorism in state elections to divert the people’s attention

The people of Gujarat are sensitive about national security. We cannot af ford to have national security affected at any one loca tion. If there is any misuse of probe agen cies, then they can approach the judiciary.

Survey for Phase II of land acquisition likely in 2 weeks

New Delhi: The survey for the acquisition of land for the second phase of the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) will be gin in two weeks, ac cording to officials.

The first phase of the Greenfield airport in Jewar, Gautam Buddh Nagar is currently un der construction, with the Uttar Pradesh gov ernment recently ap proving land acquisition for the second phase.

And the second phase of the NIA will cover an area of 1,365 hectares, of which approximately 1,185 hectares are owned by private individuals, including farmers, from 6 villages including Ra nhera, Kureb, Dayanat pur, Karauli Bangar, Mundrah and Birampur, according to the official.

The land is being ac

quired in accordance with the 2013 Act on the Right to Fair Compensa tion and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Re settlement. “Consent of landowners has been taken already after which the proposal for land acquisition was sent to the government.

The proposal has been accepted. Now the sur vey is expected to begin in the next two weeks in the six villages for meas urement of individual properties against which the compensation would be disbursed,”

Additional District Mag istrate (Land Acquisi tion) Balram Singh said.

The Modi govt decided to ban PFI after gather ing a lot of information and proof related to their anti-national ac tivities, especially their activities to push youth towards terrorism by radicalising them. And sev eral states have de manded to ban PFI.

Technical, medical, legal education in ‘mother tongue’ Amit Shah stressed that states should promote education in Hindi or regional languages in techni cal, medical and law fields so that the country can utilise the talent of nonEnglish speaking students. Underlin ing the importance of education in Hindi & regional languages, Shah said students can develop an original thought process with ease if they study in their mother tongue and this encourages research and in novation. "Technical, medical, and law - all should be taught in Hindi and regional languages. All state governments should take initiative to properly translate the curriculum of these 3 fields of educa tion into regional lan guages," Shah said.

from governance-relat ed concerns. “Is the se curity of Gujarat asso ciated with national se curity or not?

“Security of Gujarat and national security are not different issues.

And if the country is not secure, how can Gu jarat be secure? There fore, national security is a major issue in all state assembly polls.

With the Opposition often accusing the govt of misusing investiga tion agencies against its political rivals, Shah said there is an inde pendent & neutral judi ciary in the country, and “if there is any misuse of investigation agen cies, then they can ap proach the judiciary”.

Shah, who has been raising law and order issues in his campaign speeches, described ending lawlessness as one of the achieve ments of the BJP gov ernment in Gujarat.

The former BJP presi dent described the par ty’s poll promise to set up an anti-radicalisa

tion cell as a good initia tive and said any organ isation like PFI that pushes youths towards terrorism will not be tol erated. He said the Pop ular Front of India (PFI) was banned after due diligence and several states had demanded it. On whether BJP’s an nouncement in mani festo for setting up an anti-radicalisation cell in Gujarat will be im plemented in other states also, Shah said, “It is a good initiative. Let it be implemented (here) first. It will be given a legal shape and its working mechanism will be decided.” He said radicalisation should be checked not only in Gujarat but in the entire country.

“And it (anti-radicali sation cell) can be con sidered at the national level & other states. Rad icalisation has nothing to do with any sect, but we all know which forc es are promoting radi calisation. And the en tire world is concerned about it,” Shah said.—PTI

On phase 1 voting eve, BJP’s top shots predict massive victory in Guj

z Carpet bombing of rallies have happened in Gujarat. Now what results do you expect?

z Where ever we go in Gujarat, there is al ways Modi’s name everywhere...

Amit Shah: It is but natural. He is our big gest leader and wher eever in the nation there is an election, people love and like Modiji’s name and Gujarat is Modiji’s home state. it was from here that he started the developmen tal politics in nation. So it is obvious that people are happy with Modiji’s name and feel proud too.

z Is this why

Narendra Modi? Per haps he cannot see any other target?

See, the culture of using fould words that has

been promoted by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gan dhi, I feel that as many times bad words or re marks have been made for Modiji, the people of Gujarat had given their decision with an even bigger majority. This time too the same shall happen.

z Will AAP open its account?

A: Looking at the envi ronment it does not seem so. But let’s see what happens in future.

JP Nadda: I see that Gu jarat’s people are one sided in favour of BJP.

Everyone has an un breakable love and trust towards PM Modi and with that Gujarat unit has worked a lot. Our CM Bhupendra Patel, state president CR Patil and other leaders have worked with utmost hard work and commit ment and campaigned for the party along with our leaders who came from outside. Moreover, the people of Gujarat

have also made up their mind that they will bless the BJP.

z If AAP opens its ac count this time around, will it be a challenge in the next election?

We do not have any chal lenge. AAP goes to every state, contests election and claims it will form government but later their security on all the seats gets forefeited. It is a non-started party. Here too AAP will face the same situation.

z Does BJP gain strength from Cong’s usage of words like Ra

van or king of lies?

With the love that people of India have for PM Modi, they react to such comments and so do the people of Gujarat. But what needs to be under stood is that Sonia Gan dhi and Rahul Gandhi have not been able to di gest that Modiji has be come PM. Hence they

give such statements and others follow suit. Kharge sahab would give state ments which make Soni aji and Rahulji happy.

z What will be the im pact of anti-radical issue mentioned in your manifesto?

Not only Gujarat, we think on these lines for the entire nation. Every body has cancerous and TB cells, but if the body is strong, these cells do not grow much. Simi larly, in our nation, , who are anti-nationals, they want to divide India and to keep an eye on them there is a need of Anti-

radical cell.

z It is being said that first phase of poll is Cong dominated. What is strategy? They will not get any thing and it will be a one sided result. People will support BJP and all re cords will be broken.

z How do you see your Rajasthan tour start ing Thursday?

Definitely, the ill-govern ance of Gehlot Sahab’s government has made the citizens want for re lief. Our role is of oppsi tion and we will carry it out with utmost strength.

CHARTING THE PATH OF SUCCESS WITH DEDICATION!

CITY FIRST

Beginning with Destinations Unlimited, a luxury travel company and Heirlooms, a soft furnish ings and fashion acces sories company, Ace entrepreneur Neeta Malik got into the food and beverage business with Meatington. Which has already es tablished itself in Delhi NCR, Punjab and is now being launched in Jammu and Kashmir.

How challenging has your journey been as a woman entrepreneur?

Food was an impor tant focus during the lockdown. Dur ing that phase, find ing good food daily was challenging. This led to the creation of the Mea tington. After Destina tions Unlimited, we thought we should do something to make the lockdown enjoyable for people as the pandemic halted travel to India.

What is Meatington’s unique selling point and how does it market and retail its products?

The heat and eat range makes it easy for people living independently to

have tasty and healthy meals all day. Each meal can include different products, such as chick en sausages for break fast, Dal Makhani for lunch, Mutton Seekh or Broccoli corn Kebab for a snack etc.

It comes in a Zip Locked reusable pouch where you can store our products for up to twelve months. Starting with Delhi NCR, we aim to make it available to consumers as far as pos sible and now our reach has also expanded to Punjab. Various social channels are used to ex pand our database.

Where do you see the brand moving in 5 years from now?

Meatington will be in every kitchen. Soon we will be ex panding to Pan India and exploring the ex port market.

Do package and ready-to-eat foods lack freshness?

When the product is brought down to ex treme freezing temper atures, we use technol ogy proven in interna tional labs to preserve its nutritional value. If stored at -18 degrees, bacteria growth stops and it retains its taste and nutrition. It tastes fresh and delicious

when heated.

How will you over come the challenges you currently face?

Debunking frozen food myths is our first chal lenge. We eat almost

everything processed. Our technology gives you a long shelf life without harmful pre servatives and it makes all the difference.

Through social media, we are already raising

awareness and educat ing people.

A second challenge is that we are in a hurrywe know we have a great product and we want to deliver it as soon as possible.

I’ve been born with a charm of acting in me, that’s how I see myself and that’s how the peo ple around me have always talked about.” said the as piring actor Aqib Nazir. When talking about the future, he said, “I see my self topping my levels at my best. That’s where I should stand with a kind heart.”

When asked about his journey, he said, “I was a mimicry artist I would say, that’s what my par ents used to tell me. I had been appreciated by them at times. After some years I started making cover songs for some acts with no such proper equipment.

Meanwhile, I went to a free workshop organ ised by the Indian Army where FTII Pune officials had come to hold the meeting. I met

one of the officials who took me out of many peo ple and told me to get try ing and quoted to his friends ‘He has a Face in him ‘ that thing still aspires me. So further I thought of getting a little more trained in this so I went to Delhi, a

new city where everything looked confusing. I joined the Gulshan Kumar Film & Television Institute of In dia where I completed my diploma in acting.”

While talking about his struggles, he said, “Being supported in those circum

stances is for which I thank my brave pillars, my par ents. There were times when I had no one in the new city, I had no one to talk to, no one to ask I’d been starving for days. I barely managed to live those days where I missed those pillars but also got a lesson about independence and progressive oneself building.”

The talented artist shared his achievements and said, “Unfortunately, I’ll just say that I’m still a budding artist.

Haven’t got many leads or such big roles but I’ve done plays, some music videos, print shoots, and some theatre too later on. Moreover, I am plan ning to start a venture in my hometown to help dreamers like me who want it but don’t get a way ahead with it. I think in

we are, the more we will matter.”
