Traffic police to issue warnings to passengers of 4-wheelers that do not have rear safety belts

First India Bureau

ries passengers not wearing seat belts shall be punished.

Meanwhile, the new seat belt rule has re ceived criticism from stakeholders such as taxi, bus and truck driv ers, among others.

MORBI-D POLITICS OVER GUJARAT DISASTER

when quoting some tweets of AAP leaders, BJP’s Kapil Mishra alleged “conspiracy”.

AAP leaders dismissed it as an attempt to “evade re sponsibility and digress at tention from the terrible trag edy”. “Who is Kapil Mishra,” asked AAP leader Naresh Balyan, claiming that Mishra, who was “kicked out by AAP,” was only trying to “remain politically relevant”.

Meanwhile, sample this… The government hospital at Morbi got a makeover ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the facility to meet those injured in Sun day’s suspension bridge col lapse which claimed 141 lives.

Workers were seen clean ing and painting a portion of the 300-bed hospital, which is a ground plus two-storey structure of three wings, ahead of Modi’s visit on Tuesday. Six of those injured in the bridge collapse were undergoing treatment at the hospital, while four to five other injured are being treat ed at a private hospital, a doc tor said. So far, 56 people have been discharged, he added.

THIS INTRUSION INTO A PLAYER’S PRIVACY MUST NEVER HAPPEN

Slamming the BJP for this “eventbaazi”, the Congress people have died but the ruling party is making an event out of this tragedy. “Trasadi ka event (event of tragedy),” it tweeted. The Congress claimed that these arrangements are being made for PM Modi’s photo op in the hospital. “They are not ashamed.

So many people died, and they are preparing for an event,” it said. Aam Aadmi Party, which is contesting all the 182 Gujarat Assembly seats, posted a video of the hospital being painted.

“Morbi civil hospital is being painted overnight so that the poor condition of the building does not get exposed during PM Modi’s photoshoot,” AAP claimed

In India, every incident is, un fortunately, politicised and in case it is a political year… toh phir kya kehna! When all parties should have actually maintained silence and prayed for the departed souls and left politics to seek (or may be ‘sick’ pun intended!) its own level, the parties have sought this as an opportunity to play politics to create a roof-hitting decibel.

If the ruling BJP (on Mon day) cancelled its itinerary, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programmes in poll-bound Gujarat, follow ing the Morbi bridge tragedy and PM Modi visited Morbi on Tuesday to take stock of the situation and meet the in jured, there were reports that the “newly-renovated bridge was thrown open without a fit ness certificates” which im mediately led to the Opposi tion pointing fingers at the BJP government, accusing it of negligence.

With elections to the Guja rat Assembly expected soon (dates of which may be an nounced any time), PM Modi’s statement following the col lapse of a flyover in Kolkata way back in 2016 also surfaced to haunt the Saffron might.

BRAZIL TURNS LEFT, ONCE AGAIN

Meanwhile, the Congress had demanded a judicial probe into the mishap. “This is no time for politics but is critical to fix responsibility in the matter,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said.

However, tweeting on the incident, several Opposition leaders wasted no time and played on the Prime Minis ter’s comment then at a rally while blasting the Chief Min ister Mamata Banerjee’s gov ernment in West Bengal after the Vivekananda Road flyo ver collapsed in Kolkata to question if Morbi was an “act of God or an act of fraud”.

“Modi ji, is the Morbi bridge accident an Act of God or Act of Fraud,” Congress

leader Digvijaya Singh ques tioned. Y Sathish Reddy of the TRS and Manoj Singh of the Samajwadi Party also re ferred to the time when PM Modi called the flyover col lapse in Kolkata “act of fraud” and not “an act of God.”

“This is not a natural ac cident, it is a man-made trag edy. The BJP government of Gujarat is directly guilty of this heinous crime,” Con gress MP, Randeep Singh Surjewala, said, also attack ing the PM and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel over the relief package an nounced for the kin.

There was so much political bickering that even inter-par ty showdown was witnessed

Portions of the entry gate have been painted in yellow, while some areas inside the hospital have got a coat of white paint. The Congress tweeted images that showed repair work going on inside the Morbi hospital, to launch a tirade against the BJP. The photos posted by Congress on Twitter showed overnight re pair work going on inside the Morbi hospital, which in cluded a fresh coat of paint, new tiles on the walls, and minor construction work to beautify the hospital ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the fa cility on Tuesday.

Slamming the BJP for this “eventbaazi”, the Congress people have died but the rul ing party is making an event out of this tragedy. “Trasadi ka event (event of tragedy),” it tweeted. Brazilians have re jected the far right leader Jair Bol sonaro for a sec ond term as Presi dent of Brazil. In a tightly fought and bitter election Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva emerged victorious by a nar row margin. The popular Leftist leader Lula polled 50.9 percent and Bolsonaro got 49.1 percent of votes to claim victory but Bolsonaro is yet to acknowledge defeat. In a re minder of the American pres idential election, Bolsanaro, like Donald Trump, claimed manipulation, refusing to ac cept defeat and his supporters blockaded roads in protest. There’s apprehension of Bol sonaro following Trump in rejecting the results. Bolsona ro’s politician son earlier called it an “electoral fraud”.

Brazilians have rejected the far right leader Jair Bolsonaro for a second term as President of Brazil. In a tightly fought and bitter election Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva emerged victorious by a narrow margin. The popular Leftist leader Lula polled 50.9 percent and Bolsonaro got 49.1 percent of votes to claim victory but Bolsonaro is yet to acknowledge defeat

Bolsonaro’s leadership came under criticism after his disastrous environmen tal policies which threatened the Amazon rainforest and free speech. Bolsonaro was blamed for causing largescale deforestation to the rain forest. He was also defi ant towards Covid pandemic, another similarity he shared with Trump. In the midst of a campaign urging Brazil ians to get vaccinated, Bol sonaro claimed in a video that the vaccines caused HIV AIDS and asked people to

avoid taking them. His state ments led Facebook and You Tube to remove the contro versial video.

Lula’s victory is stunning as he was imprisoned for cor ruption which prevented him from contesting in 2018. Lula dedicated his victory to the people of Brazil. The rejec tion of far right politics by Brazilians is a continuum of leftist victories in almost all of Latin America with Ar gentina, Mexico, Chile, Co lumbia and Peru having left ist governments.

Astranger filming a video of Virat Kohli’s hotel room in Perth is a definite cause for paranoia not only for the former India captain cur rently representing the country in the T20 World Cup being played in Australia but also for the ICC and the BCCI whose job it is to provide foolproof securi ty to players in view of previous cases of match-fixing. This in trusion in the privacy of a play er, reportedly by an excited fan, has been strongly castigated by Virat and the cricket fraternity. The hotel has since sacked (“stood down”) the employees who broke into Virat’s room and the hotel has apologized unre servedly to the cricketer who has decided not to pursue the matter.

An angry Kohli said that he was not “okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment”, Kohli tweeted about the incident.

Supreme Court to hear Maha political crisis cases on Nov 29

A five-judge Constitution bench on Tuesday asked lawyers of each Shiv Sena faction to complete case compilation and formulate salient issues within 4 weeks

First India Bureau

New Delhi: The Su preme Court will hear a batch of petitions filed in connection with the Maharashtra political crisis by the two warring factions of Shiv Sena—each led by Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde—on November 29.

A five-judge Constitu tion bench, headed by Justice DY Chandra chud, on Tuesday asked lawyers to complete com pilation of the case and formulate its salient is sues for consideration.

The bench, comprising Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasim ha, also said that advo cates Javed Ur Rehman and Chirag Shah, repre senting each faction, shall act as nodal coun sel and will carry out this exercise within a period of four weeks.

Earlier, the top court had allowed the Election Commission of India to decide which faction be

tween Uddhav Thacker ay and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be recognized as the “real” Shiv Sena, and to be al lotted the “bow and ar row” poll symbol.

In August, a threejudge Supreme Court bench had referred to a five-judge Constitution bench the issues in volved in the petition filed by the rival Shiv Sena groups. The three-

judge bench had also said that some of the is sues involved in the Ma harashtra political crisis could require a larger Constitutional bench for consideration.

It had also asked the Speaker of the Maha rashtra Legislative As sembly, Rahul Narwekar, not to take any action on the new disqualification notices issued against members of Shiv Sena.

On June 29, the top court had given a goahead to the June 30 Ma harashtra Assembly floor test. The bench had refused to stay the Maha rashtra governor’s direc tion to the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thack eray to prove his major ity support on the floor of the House on June 30.

After the apex court’s order, Uddhav Thacker ay announced his resig

There are various pe titions pending before the apex court filed by both factions of Shiv Sena. For example, the Thackeray-led faction had approached the top court, challenging Gov ernor Bhagat Singh Ko shiyari’s decision to in vite Eknath Shinde to form the government.

The division bench, comprising of Justices GS Patel and Gauri Godse, found it difficult to express the “extent of dismay and disap pointment” at the way in which the ad vocates for the origi nal claimants con ducted themselves in the appeal filed be fore the HC.

The bench, com prising of Justices SV Gangapurwala and RN Laddha, was hearing a petition filed by “The Nest India Foundation”, a Child Care Home.

The plea was seek ing directions to state authorities to issue an orphan cer tificate to two girls and to consider them in the 1% hori zontal reservation quota in the counsel

The HC rejected the application filed by the organization seeking two girls to be declared as or phans. However, the court allowed the organization to ap proach a competent authority that “may make due inquiry and take decision on the application of the organization for declaration as an ‘abandoned child’.”

The authority has been asked to take the decision by No vember 14, 2022.

Interestingly, Chahal was BMC Commission er when Uddhav Thack eray government was in power and even after a change of govern ment, with Shinde-Fad navis government at helm, Chahal contin ues on the same post.

Maharashtra bureau cracy claims that Cha hal, a straightforward and no non-sense offic er, worked hard during the two years of Covid and it is because of this that the current gov ernment has not ousted him from BMC. Moreo ver, word in the ‘power circles’ is that Chahal has good relations with both Uddhav and Fad navis. In fact, sources reveal, there have been moments when , within bureaucracy, top lead ership of Maharashtra

And perhaps because the BMC has been sin gled out, did Aaditya Thackeray raise a de mand for similar au dits in Thane, Nagpur and Pune local bodies as well claiming that the CAG audit was nothing more than a ploy to tarnish Maha rashtra’s image on na tional level, even though the Covid man agement was lauded by other states.
