HOUSE THAT: CM Gehlot brings ‘home’ Udaipur …And DB also gets ‘functional credit’ to sign MoU First India News New Delhi: After a prolonged battle that lasted for 72 long years, finally, Rajasthan government is all set to acquire the palatial 11,950 square metre Udaipur House. The win is the result of the initiative taken by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot during his second tenure as CM during 2008-2013 when a case was filed in the Supreme Court.

The property that is situated in Delhi’s Civil Lines area values at around Rs 150 crore. The fact that nothing much happened in the case during former CM Vasundhara Raje’s last tenure, this historic victory, coming under the rule of CM Gehlot, carries huge sentimental importance for the people of Rajasthan. On Friday, DB Gupta became the lucky Chief Secretary when

he signed the MoU with his Delhi counterpart Vijay Kumar Dev for the handing over of the authority of the House to Rajasthan. However, the MoU will now be presented before the Supreme Court on August 5 for approval. Notably, the Supreme Court had asked both the parties to settle the dispute outside the court. According to sources, CS Gupta also

made a courtesy call to Delhi’s Lt. Governor Anil Baijal regarding the matter. After his approval, the draft of transfer of property will be made. Apart from CS Gupta, ACS-PWD Veenu Gupta was also present in the meeting. In the entire process, Additional Resident Commissioners Pratibha Singh and Vimal Sharma also played an important role. The property was constructed during 1940s by

Mewar or Udaipur principality in Civil Lines near today’s Tees Hazari Court in Delhi. It was constructed when the British rulers were busy giving Delhi a new face. The British officials had asked the Udaipur royal family to construct a mansion like that of royals. After country got freedom and principalities merged with the Union of India, the royal families had given their properties to the governments. Turn to P10
