Section 370 or a Union Territory tag for Kashmir?

Tense nation awaits edict on Kashmir Aditi Nagar Srinagar: In a completely tense situation in the Kashmir valley, the entire nation including Srinagar awaits for the outcome of Monday’s union cabinet meeting at 9.30 am to be chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has actually acquired the image and charisma of the new Sardar Patel by now, is going to play a key role in the cabinet meeting.

According to all sources, the main agenda of the cabinet meeting will focus on Kashmir…Kashmir and

ecently, a photoshoot of a samesex couple from New York City has gone viral online and the photos show Anjali and Sundas in exquisite traditional gowns in Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, and under an umbrella on a rainy day in Chelsea.

Sundas Malik, a Muslim artist from Pakistan and Anjali Chakra, a Hindu originally from India, released pictures from a photoshoot on Twitter recently. The photos were posted by their photographer @Sarowarrrr with the caption, “A New York Love Story.”

The couple can be seen sharing a transparent umbrella while standing in the rain; while adorably kissing each other and looking at each other lovingly, with the picturesque backdrop of New York City.

In fact, Sundas Malik even shared pictures with her girlfriend, from the same shoot on her Instagram. She captioned the picture, “I’m usually the kurta to her lehenga, so coming up with familyready femme wedding

outfits was more than a little stressful for me.”

Sundas Malik, who is a Pakistan-based artist, shared the couple’s special moments on Instagram with a post saying: “I grew up witnessing and watching different kinds of love, some in my family and some in Bollywood.”

ccording to me, Indian school children should learn about same-sex couples in a the school itself, as it will be a sign of shifting attitudes in the socially conservative country following the decriminalization of gay sex last year.

The books would help in breaking away from conventional Indian teachings about family types traditionally either nuclear or joint - to include single-parent families, unmarried cohabiting couples and step parents. I personally came across students, who would feel uncomfortable in the class because their fellow mates used to bully them. But after decriminalization of gay sex, things have changed a bit but a lot needs to be changed as the society is still conversative about the same in our country. Another way to make the students and the parents feel comfortable about the same is that they should watch quality movies on LGBT community as it help them to think in a different way.

ecently I went through a horrifying and infuriating experience, do take the time out to read this if you can. My girlfriend and I decided to go to a bar called The Slate Hotels on a Saturday night. While dancing, there were 4 to 5 men who were standing at the bar and were constantly staring at us, making us very uncomfortable. As far as we knew, almost everyone else was enjoying themselves as much as we did, yet why did we draw such unwarranted attention?

Why was it so hard to digest that 2 people of the same sex were dancing together? I was appalled at the way in which we were immediately fetishized by the people around us.

We felt these stares follow us to the washroom. Moments later, we hear frantic knocks on our door, ordering us to step out of the washroom. 4 male bouncers and 1 female bouncer were inside the washroom, demanding to know what we were doing in the washroom together.

They accused us of “doing something else”, they warned us about “several complaints” they had received from the guests, and they insisted that we leave immediately. So we left.

personally don’t believe in the idea of gender binaries. Yes Isexuality sex organs have a reproductive purpose, but someone’s should not be limited just to the idea of procreation.

So if someone loves someone else, irrespective of their genders, we as progressive individuals should absolute support it! Same sex love is as normal as any heterosexual romance.

So why stigmatize it? About things changing in India, well we have certainly grown assertive and confident about homosexual identities! We have evolved from the closeted romance in Deepa Mehta’s Fire to the acceptance in Sanjoy Nag’s Memories in March. And even with the decriminalization of homosexuality and the positive depiction of the LGBTQ community in the popular media, there is still an issue of acceptance. But I think we are moving forward in a correct way.

The worst part was that the manager did not have a single shame effect on his visage or words of apologies in his mouth or didn’t even care to stop us from going out.

What were these “complaints”, I am curious to know. Did we hurt anyone? Did we pick a fight?

Did we abuse/harass anybody? We minded our own business, so why didn’t they mind theirs?

How dare they throw us outside their bar without having the decency to explain to us the exact reason. Such offensive and unprofessional behaviour from the staff is UNACCEPTABLE. How dare they have the audacity to assume that we’d be “upto something”?

I am devastated by the assumptions that are made about people who deviate even slightly from the norm. They decided to make a “threat” out of us for absolutely no good reason, and worse, tried to make us feel guilty for something we didn’t do.

Notably, the Chief Minister has asked officials to make a list of anti-social elements. “In the garb of stopping bovine smuggling, anti social elements resort to mob lynching. A list of such people should be made and action should be taken against them.

After the meeting CM met representative from the BAR Association, Jaipur, who were headed by Congress leader Randeep Dhankar. The representatives invited the CM for their oath taking ceremony.

CM Gehlot will travel to Beneshwar on August 9 ahead of World Tribal day for which various programmes have been laid out.

After the information about the incident spread in the locality, a large number of villagers gathered on the spot and alerted the cops

Following which the locals informed the police, who brought the bodies down from the tree. The deceased have been identified as one Priyanka Meena and Hanuman Meena.

During the initial interrogation, it was revealed that they were in

a relationship for some time and were also missing since last four days. The family members of both the deceased were looking for them, the police said.

It was further revealed that both the man and woman were married and had kids as well. It is suspected that they were in a relationship and ended life as they could not live together.

Jaipur: The debt burden on the state government is constantly increasing. The state government has to borrow from banks, the Union government and other institutions for the development of the state.

As a result, every citizen of the state has a debt of more than 34,000. While the state government has a debt of Rs 2,36,7,96.73 crore.

This information has come out in response to an unstarred question in the state assembly during the budget session, which is being run.

Former state assembly speaker and Srimadhopur legislator Deependera Singh had asked through an unstarred question that how much money has the government has

taken from different institutions, banks, central government and other sources at present?

How much amount is to be paid as interest per month?

In response to the question, the state government told the Legislative Assembly that the state government has taken a loan of Rs 2,36,7,96.73 crore from national and international institutions, central government and other sources till 31 March 2019. Payment of

interest on this loan is a continuous process. Rs. 4272.26 crore interest has been paid on the loan in the first quarter of the financial year 2019-20.

“Loans and other receipts taken by the State Government are deposited in the Consolidated Fund of the State. The state government spends according to the provisions of the annual budget passed in the Legislative Assembly”, said Finance Department.

Dholpur: The police have apprehended a “notorious dacoit”, carrying a reward by the Uttar Pradesh police for his arrest, in Dholpur district, an official said Sunday.

he third dispatch marks the completion of the Phase 3 program and the end of the Mussorie component of the six-week training for the Induction training – and it’s time to cover the Valedictory address, as well as some of the key highlights in the week that went by. More than the academic component, it was the cultural programs, sports meet, the photographs, musings, and general bonhomie and the sense of celebration with the visiting family members that marked the last few days – and it is perhaps difficult to encapsulate everything in this column. Its best therefore to call it Mile Sur Mera Tumhara!

Let me begin with a skit at the cultural program in which the anchor took the voice of the ‘spirit of LBSNAA’ which welcomes and sees off every batch of of-

For mid-career and induction training programs, officers come across batches and many get to meet each other for the first time, but the spirit of LBSNAA binds them together in a unique esprit de corps , and they go back as friends for a lifetime. When two programs run together the bonding cuts across the batches–for they share many common experiences both inside and outside the classrooms. In the midcareer programs, the Academy encourages participants to bring their families-it adds life, colour and vigour to the campus and the bonds of friendship get deeply entrenched.

How will society deal with an economy which has no shortages, but also a very large section which is ‘unemployable’, and vulnerable to political demagogy which will rise as expectations soar – and ‘expectations’ can always outwit the best delivery systems which new technologies can put on offer!

This program brings together officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and above in civil services and their equivalents in Defence, Police and CPMFs to discuss the broad gamut of national security in all its aspects, and sessions will range from lessons from Kargil to cyber security, India and her neighborhood, including the high seas, left wing extremism, energy and food security etal. The Chinese claim it is an efficient management tool. Wired clearly states the two contrasting perceptions — Chinese and Western — of this high-tech program: “The Chinese government and state media say the project is designed to boost public confidence and fight problems like corruption and business fraud.

Western critics often see social credit instead as an intrusive surveillance apparatus for punishing dissidents and infringing on people’s privacy.”

CONTEXTUAL NOTE The societies of the West

Law for circulation of `1k notes scrapped New Delhi: A law which allowed the Reserve Bank of India to circulate Rs 1000 denomination notes to tide over the shortage of currency in the late 1990s has been scrapped.

The High Denomination Bank Notes (Demonetisation) Amendment Act, 1998 is one of 58 “redundant” laws repealed last week. Parliament passed a bill to

repeal 58 laws from the statute books on Friday.

minister, Yashwant Sinha, had moved bill in December 1998 to allow RBI circulate Rs 1000 denomination notes.

“To eliminate the shortage of currency notes and to ease the pressure on other denominations, it is proposed to amend section 2 of the High Denomination Bank Notes (Demonetisation) Act, 1978.

This will facilitate the

Reserve Bank of India to issue notes of Rs 1,000 denomination immediately,” read the amended Act which came into force in 1999.

On 8 November 2016, the government announced demonetisation of all Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi series. It also announced the issuance of new Rs 500 and RS 2,000 notes.

‘Over 2L cases awaiting verdict for 25 years’ Guwahati: Expressing concern over pendency of cases, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said on Sunday that more than two lakh cases are in courts for 25 years, while over 1,000 cases have not been disposed of even after five decades.

Speaking at a public function here, Justice Gogoi said though the judiciary faces criticism for the huge number of pending cases, it is not entirely responsible for the delay as the executive also has some responsibility in the justice

delivery mechanism.

“In India, we have a little over one thousand 50-year-old cases and above two lakh 25-yearold cases,” he said.

The CJI said, out of about 90 lakh pending civil cases, more than 20 lakh are at a stage where summons have not been served yet.

“This is about 23 per cent of the civil cases in the country. In criminal cases, the figure is worse. Out of 2.10 crore (pending) criminal cases, the total pendency at the summoning stage is over a crore.”

Balasore: Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday successfully test-fired Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) air defence system.

The air defence missile system was tested from Balasore flight test range. The missile with a strike range of 25-km is being developed by the DRDO for the Indian Army. The all-weather, all-terrain missile with electronic counter-measures against jamming by enemy aircraft can be mounted on a truck and stored in a canister.

ctor Taryn Manning says she went ‘fully method’ to play the character of inmate Tiffany Doggett in the popular Netflix series ‘Orange Is The New Black’, which took a toll on her.

In a recent interview, the 40-year-old star, who has starred as Doggett since season one of the series, agreed that her character is ‘racist, homophobic’ and ‘horrible’.

“Everything that I’m not is what she was, so it

was very tough,” Manning said of her character.

The first audition round for solo participants took place on Sunday at the Tilak Nagar branch of Buskers, where more than 250 children participated between the ages of 7 and 18 years.

The primary motto of this grand event is to give a platform to the school going young dance talent of the city.
