Will contest 2024 polls under CM Shinde’s leadership: Fadnavis Deputy CM slams Thackerays for 2019 ‘betrayal’; says Shinde landing CM post ‘not a shocker’ First India Bureau Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the 2024 Assembly elections will be contested under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Speaking at an event in Mumbai, he also said that the toppling of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was a “revenge” for a “betrayal”. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the coming civic

polls as well as the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in alliance with the Shinde-led Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena, he said. “In 2024, we will fight the election under the leadership of Eknath Shinde as chief minister and me as deputy CM and we will return with a huge majority,” said Fadnavis. He also said that the Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray betrayed

him and the BJP in 2019 when they ended the saffron alliance and joined hands with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress to form a government. “If Eknath Shinde wanted to leave Shiv Sena because of the way he was treated by Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray, we were not going to ask him to go back. We were going to welcome him

and support him. We have taken revenge for the betrayal,” said Fadnavis who was the chief minister of the BJP-Sena government from 2014 to 2019. He also reiterated that the BJP never promised the chief minister’s post for half the term to the Shiv Sena as the latter claimed. Instead of sharing the CM’s post, the BJP had offered the Palghar Lok Sabha seat

and more ministries in the state to the Sena and finalized the alliance, he claimed. Eknath Shinde becoming chief minister instead of him after the fall of the Thackeray government was not a “shocker”, Fadnavis asserted. “Shinde was made chief minister after consultation with me. It was my proposal, so it was not a shocker for me,” he said.

Rahul, Kohli and Pant all perished within a span of just 14 runs. The stage was set for a Hardik and Surya show. While Hardik played the second fiddle making 18 of 18 balls, Surya stole the limelight with his 4 sixes and 6 fours. His constant scooping of Zimbabwean bowlers over the short fine leg for

boundaries and sixers had all fans in a tizzy. His knock put India in a powerful position and gave their bowlers a strong total of 186 to defend. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been in fine form since his return from injury and has bowled many dot balls in powerplay overs. His first over was a maiden again as he picked up a wicket on his very first delivery. Kohli dived to pick up a stunning catch to dismiss Wessly Madhevere. It was total capitulation from then on by the Zimbabwe batsman. All Indian bowlers chipped in with wickets at regular intervals. After the powerplay Zimbabwe was at 27 runs having lost 3 wickets and then got reduced to 36 for 5 in the next two overs. Sikandar Raza has been the best batsman for Zimbabwe in the tournament and his 34 along with Ryan Burl’s 35 took their team to a semblance of a total before it all concluded in the 18th over as they were bowled for a paltry 115. The Men in Blue now head to Adelaide for their semi-final meeting with England. India’s roaring juggernaut has gained the much-needed confidence ahead of the knock-out contest. England meanwhile, struggled to win against a weak Sri Lankan team in their last league game. Both teams though were tagged as the favorites at the start of the tournament and now stand just 2 wins away from ultimate glory. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL

Shehbaz Sharif described Imran Khan as a liar “from head to toe”. To tighten the screws on PTI, the country’s electronic media watchdog has passed a gag order on all electronic channels from broadcasting or rebroadcasting Imran Khan’s press conferences or speeches to avoid creating hatred among people. A similar gag order issued by the watchdog earlier was struck down by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Free speech, anyone? These are not signs of a healthy democracy which, incidentally, Pakistan has never been. For the army and ISI a strong democracy is an anathema and the two institutions prefer to keep their national and state governments’ strings in their hands.

f the state assembly byelection results have any message it is that the BJP is becoming increasingly unstoppable. It has won the Gola Gokarannath seat in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana’s Adampur and Odisha’s Dhamnagar seats. The BJP also retained the Gopalganj seat. The Congress, on the other hand, has come a cropper, which is bad news for its prospects in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The regional parties like Shiv Sena (Uddhav), Rashtriya Janata Dal and Telangana Rashtra Samithi denied victory to BJP in prestigious and close battles for Mumbai’s Andheri East, Bihar’s Mokama and Telangana’s Munugode seats. The Munugode win is of special interest as the BJP was desperate to grab this seat. Andheri East victory has come as a boost to Uddhav Thackeray faction’s claim of enjoying people’s support over that of Eknath Shinde faction. Significantly, these results provide a clearer picture of Opposition unity before the 2024 parliamentary election. It is the regional parties which will pose a challenge to the BJP.

BATTLEGROUND HIMACHAL PRADESH

Shah exudes confidence in BJP’s win Nagrota (PTI): The BJP will win both the lower and upper parts of Himachal Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday ahead of the Assembly polls on November 12. During an election rally here in Kangra district, Shah also took a swipe at the poll guarantees given by the Congress in its manifesto. The state is divided into upper and lower Himachal. While Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Sirmaur and Chamba form upper Himachal, the lower parts of the state comprise Chamba, Una, Kangra Bilaspur and Hamirpur. Traditionally, the Congress has been a strong contender in the upper parts of the state. Shah claimed that the saffron party will trounce the Congress in its bastion. Alleging that the Congress was involved in corruption during its tenure, Shah said, “Who will believe in their guarantees? They ruled for 10 years but only indulged in big scams. Now they are making guarantees to befool the innocent people of Himachal Pradesh.” Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said his stature had grown globally. He claimed when Indian students were

FROM PG 1 the election as mere formality after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its candidate, Murji Patel, from the race. After thanking everyone who supported her, Rutuja Latke later alleged BJP had no sympathy and said that if they had any, they would not have filled the form. “If BJP had any sympathy, they would not have filled the form earlier. Votes met by NOTA belong to BJP…. A survey was conducted before the election and they knew that they were losing hence they withdrew the nomination of their candidate,” Latke said. Meanwhile, BJP’s Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar on Sunday said Latke won because his party did not field a candidate against her.

The Thackeray-led Sena could not increase its vote share despite having the support of the Congress and National Congress Party (NCP), he told reporters. Congratulating Latke, Shelar said, “Had BJP contested the election, they (Maha Vikas Aghadi combine) would have lost for sure.” Predictably, these comments did not go down well with the Senas’ MVA allies. Slamming Shelar for his remarks, NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto said, “Shelar and BJP’s reaction that ‘had we contested the Andheri East Assembly by-election, (Latke’s) defeat was certain’ is like the fox who said ‘grapes are sour’ when he could not get them because they was out of his reach.”

New alliance between BJP, Shinde rebel faction & MNS?

IITB asked to defend no support for SC, ST First India Bureau

Will be interesting to see if MNS fills void left by Sena split, attracts Marathi votes IN THE FUTURE

First India Bureau Mumbai: Even as the two factions of the Shiv Sena continue to battle for supremacy, and the legacy of party founder, the late Balasaheb Thackeray, former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray could well face a bigger challenge in the upcoming civic body polls in Mumbai, where Marathi votes play a crucial role. A new alliance seems to be forming in the state, with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Uddhav’s cousin and arch nemesis Raj Thackeray, seemingly forming close bonds with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena faction led by CM Eknath Shinde. The bonhomie between Shinde, his deputy Devendra Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray were evident when the former two attended the

Further, Raj Thackeray’s letter to Fadnavis, urging him to withdraw the BJP candidate from the Andheri East Assembly bypoll in favour of late Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke’s wife came to swift fruition. BJP later withdrew its candidate from the race, for which Raj Thackeray

thanked Fadnavis. Previously, Raj Thackeray also wrote a letter to his “friend” Fadnavis, hailing him for setting an example of loyalty and commitment to his party by taking over as the deputy CM. Officially, each side has declined to comment on a possible tieup in the state. However, Sujata Anandan, the author of

‘Hindu Hriday Samrat: How the Shiv Sena Changed Mumbai Forever’, says it is clear that MNS will go with the BJP as it is not a threat to the party. More importantly, Raj Thackeray’s has consistently worked against Uddhav Thackeray politically, since he parted ways with Shiv Sena in 2006, she added. Ketan Bhosale, associ-

ate professor at Sathaye College, said Raj Thackeray leaned towards Hindutva two years back and shares the same cause with the BJP and the Shinde faction. “The MNS chief… is fiercely against Uddhav,” said Bhosale, adding the BMC elections could also be the last chance to consolidate MNS, which is trying to stay relevant politically.

FITKUTUMB, A

ONE-STOP SOLUTION As we come close to the end of the year, many of us be feeling low with broken resolutions to improve our health and fitness. While having specific health and fitness goals in mind is excellent, people often go to extremes to accomplish these goals. In a tete-a-tete with Dr Dushyant Khandelwal, senior physiotherapy consultant City First highlights the importance of health and fitness, physiotherapy and a life-changing app ‘FitKutumb’, to be launched soon.

P

hysiotherapy is the most commonly prescribed treatment to assist in the recovery of many injuries and conditions. Chronic pain, car and sports injuries and challenges with mobility can all be greatly improved with the use of physiotherapy. Physiotherapists are experts in advising you when it is safe to exercise, and when and how much you can increase weight and loads to your joints and muscles/soft tissues. After a thorough assessment, we will design a programme specific to your current situation, the stage of your injury as well as your needs and goals. At FitKutumb, an app to be launched soon, the doctors strive to promote selfmanagement and empower the patient through recovery and prevention of future injuries. Improvement is only possible with repetition and adherence to the programme. They also work closely with personal trainers and coaches to achieve the best results and your personal goals. During your rehabilitation, exercise prescription is usually combined with “Hands On” manual therapy or other treatment modalities to ensure the best outcome. Jay Kohli, the founder of FitKutumb, hailing from Jaipur, is an International fitness expert with a certification in Yoga. He also holds a strong command over Zumba, Aerobics, Fitness diet and Nutrition, Taekwondo, and prenatal and post-natal Fitness with an experience of more than 15 years. With a belief in spreading awareness about physiotherapy and making a fit and healthy society, Dr Dushyant is working hard day in and out. When asked to give a brief about the app, Dr Dushyant said, “FitKutumb is coming up with certified and experienced trainers to create a fit and healthy environment. therapist at their homes according to their convenience. The platform provides various exercises, professional trainers, a healthy diet and a lot more.” He further continued, “We all had gone through the painful Covid-19 situation, that not only affected the lives of people physically but mentally too. Since then we also saw major changes in the lifetsyle of people. People got more vigilant towards their health. Also with the rise in work from home concept, people’s health started to get affected. Their metabolism and immunity slowed down in that phase. People are now working for more than 10 hours and are not able to give time to their health and fitness. So FitKutumb is coming up with a solution by providing trainers at your doorstep.” When asked about what challenges one had to go through, he said, it was challenging at various levels. To be able to find good developers who can work on our idea with the same passion as we have was one of the biggest. Then it was also a task to look for wellcertified trainers since India still has a shortage of certified professional trainers. We were fortunate enough to come across

hardworking and sincere trainers and provided them with multiple workouts training before they could finally reach people.” Whether the session would be available offline or online, Dushyant smilingly answered, “This app provides a platform for the patients to consult both online and offline sessions. One can book their sessions very easily through Fitkutumb and we directly connect patients to certified physiotherapists. After discussing general things and understanding the patient’s main cause, the professional physiotherapist doctors will proceed further accordingly.” He further added, not only patients can consult the doctor but will also be provided with proper counselling. Concluding the conversation, Dr Dushyant Khandelwal while giving a message to the younger generation said, “As we are in high tech and fast-moving generation, we need to be fit and healthy physically and mentally. People need to work on their lifestyle and they need to manage work and health so that they grow faster in their profession and make a healthier society.”
