JUST A ‘TAD’ BIT OF CORRUPTION?
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: In a rare development, the National Commission for SC-ST has initiated a suo-moto investigation against Rajasthan’s TAD department over corruption.
The Commission has sought report from Chief Secretary Usha Sharma, by April 13, on the investigation and action taken till now in these cases.
Moreover, the Commission has also warned that if the report is not submitted within the stipulated time, then the
Commission, using the powers given to it by the Constitution, can get a summon issued through civil court and get order issues to be physically present in court. The Commission has even appointed an investigating officer.
A civilian had complained to the Chairman of the Commission in Dec 2022 claiming a scam in furniture purchase and some other corruption related complaints were made. Considering these to be a serious issue, the Commission ini-
tiated an investigation.
Sources reveal that this is perhaps first of its kind of case, where the investigation of corruption in a department has been taken over by a Commission. Generally, the Human Rights Commission or the Women
Commission, ie a national level Commission, interfere in state works.
According to the complaint, furniture was to be purchased for 600 hostels from the funds available in TADA and MADA.
However, a supply order was given on a rate sixty nine percent more, to a firm that was not even eligible. The product that was finally given was of a bad quality. Apart from this, there is a complaint of corruption in payment of worth Rs 200 crore in the Swachcha Scheme. According to
the complainant, no action was taken against those involved and the officials have had a ‘field day’ with the money made from corruption.
In the current government, five Commissioners and five Secretaries have been changed. Either there have been full time Secretaries or the TAD has been clubbed with Social Justice department. But at present, Principal Secretary Administrative Reforms and Printing and Stationery, Alok Gupta, has been handed the reins of
TAD whereas, both the departments have no connection anywhere.
It is also being said that the TAD Headquarters will be shifted from Udaipur to the newly formed Banswara division, because eighty per cent population falls under Banswara.
So, the bureaucracy and the administrative experts are eager to find out as to what all is said in the Chief Secretary’s report and what action the National Commission for SC-ST takes in the matter.s

ARE WE A DIGITALLY OBESE GENERATION?
DR JYOTI JOSHI
With shrinking social relations and circumscribed free time in a world where we forget to click mindfully, we end up having more screen time than recommended by mental and physical health experts around the globe.
We all need that day offline and let that fear go that we would miss the update from the acquaintance. We need to read a book, pick that lost hobby, and breath in real air. We need to feel that amazing sense of freedom.
Boredom is awesome when we do something creative with it. It is intense to be connected with people in your real life not in your virtual world. We can attempt to change our circumstances and dictate internet what we want from it, taking charge of our lives. Offline experiences can be as beautiful and fulfilling.
Collaboration and connections are enriching if made in real life and could be more lasting too
As the health advisory eulogizes the healthy intake of calories, the mental health advisory applauds a chipper number of screen hours which unfortunately we are finding ourselves incapable to follow. For many people, being connected and immersed in the digital world is just a part of everyday life. A potential number of our peers are spending an average of 10 hours on a device connected to the internet. In some situations, you might even feel like you are addicted to your devices. While technology addiction is not formally recognized as a disorder, many experts believe that tech and device overuse represents a very real behavioural addiction that can lead to a physical, psychological, and social problems.
This is a similar scenario of someone in taking an unhealthy number of calories and ending up with obese weight gain. We are consuming more digital content than we should. So are we a transient generation of digitally obese people? Finding this answer is not a massive challenge. We observe that the global dialogue is engrossed in discussing the environmental problems that can endanger our resources for future generation and see it as an immediate threat on the other hand many
A DIGITAL DETOX REFERS TO A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN A PERSON REFRAINS FROM USING TECH DEVICES SUCH AS SMART PHONES, TELEVISIONS, COMPUTERS, TABLETS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. “DETOXING” FROM DIGITAL DEVICES IS OFTEN SEEN AS A WAY TO FOCUS ON REAL-LIFE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS. OR GETTING BACK TO YOURSELF AND SEEKING THAT INNER CONNECTION THAT WENT MISSING IN THE LAST DECADE. BY EVADING DIGITAL DEVICES, AT LEAST TEMPORARILY, PEOPLE CAN LET GO OF THE STRESS THAT STEMS FROM CONSTANT CONNECTIVITY
of the future generation kids have an electronic baby-sitter from birth onward. This means that on average a child has very less time outdoors. Leaving him very little choice in hand to notice and understand the natural surroundings. Are not these children growing up in an environment of unconscious living? That child will develop no tolerance towards frustration and would not know how to handle
the real issues of life. For him, the second life is already created virtually where the wishful world exists. This child is consuming more screen time than he/she should be. As a parent and guardians, we find ourselves powerless to control the latitude. Avoiding technological devices comprehensively might not be a practical take as our dependency on the devices has increased in the last years from
doing reservations to doing simple payments. It has also created a market where easy money goes in hand with easy content which is very impressive for the generation that hardly knows the real social setup. Web surfing is controlling and can be compulsive. The Elderly generation is an example while they use internet surfing as a utility not as an addiction. The current generation finds a home in the
A BETTER EXPERIENCE THAN VENICE IN KASHMIR
have traveled to Venice several times and gone for gondola rides on the Grand Canal.
During my trips, I always wondered how close the water was to the centuries-old mansions and how beautiful they looked with the soft waves of water splashing against them.
Little did I know that we have something more alluring in our own homeland. Last month, I visited Srinagar and stayed in a hotel on the banks of Nigeen Lake. This neighborhood is known as Rainawari. Even though I grew up in Srinagar, I had never been to this part of town. Of course, I had often heard from my parents about the backwaters of Rainawari, and how people in the olden days would use these canals to commute.
In those days, water transport was one of the most convenient modes of transport in the old city. This was thanks to Kashmir’s 15th-century ruler Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin Badshah who built a network of canals in the Kashmir Valley.
Over the last century, roads have replaced the waterways. Yet canals remain a key part of Srinagar and Kashmir.
A
MEMORABLE BOAT RIDE
During my trip, a boatman was available at the hotel. One evening, he took me on a ride
in Nigeen. “Do you think we can go to the Rainawari backwaters from here?” I asked him during my ride. “Certainly,” he said with a smile, and so we agreed to start at dawn the next morning. We visited the floating vegetable market first and then we saw life in Rainawari along its main canal.
Naidyar is the canal that connects Dal Lake to Nigeen. As we moved silently through the water, the sun was rising behind the peaks of the Zabarwan Range. The vegetable sellers had wrapped up their morning deals and had congregated together. I settled with them and had a hot cup of
kahwa—traditional Kashmiri tea—that I have grown up drinking. This kahwa was different.
THINGS ARE CHANGING
During my boat ride, I observed that the beautiful traditional houses were being replaced by ugly concrete monstrosities. Some houses were just houses, not homes. Their owners have probably fled Kashmir for good. As is well known, Hindu Kashmiri Pandits left the valley in early 1990 to save their lives from Islamist militants. Many Pandit houses still remain empty.
I thought of the large and
A TRIP TO THE ANCESTRAL HOMELAND REVEALS NEW ASPECTS OF KASHMIR. THE CANALS, WATER LILIES, VEGETABLE MARKETS, THE SUN RISING OVER THE MOUNTAINS, THE TRADITIONAL HOUSES, AND THE RHYTHM OF DAILY LIFE CAPTURE A CULTURE OF BEAUTY, TRADITION AND SOPHISTICATION
virtual world, calling it “my space. „They have no idea what the offline life of their friends looks like. It is high time that we prioritize our mental health as well. A conscious mind is a mind that does not dwell on comparisons but rather focuses on one’s self. Indulging in a virtual world leads us to a constant comparison with the world around us that minimizes our strengths. Digital media is designed to get us hooked up with it and craft an image of ourselves. We are more comfortable with the screen than the real person in front of us. This is a dangerous situation, especially for the youth. Focusing on the real side we can begin with a mini detoxifying from these devices, maybe a day a week!
From that daily resolution of doing it from today to procrastinating it to tomorrow our digital fasting is becoming our deadpan new era challenge. A digital detox refers to a period of time when a person refrains from using tech devices such as smartphones, televisions, computers, tablets, and social media sites. “Detoxing” from digital devices is often seen as a way to focus on real-life social interactions without distractions. Or getting back to yourself and seeking that inner connection that went missing in the last decade. By evading digital devices, at least temporarily, people can let go of the stress that stems from constant connectivity.
Collaboration and connections are enriching if made in real life and could be more lasting too.

LOCAL DELICACIES AND PARTING THOUGHTS
The Dal and Nigeen lakes are very popular for nadur—the lotus stem that is harvested from them. Nadur is part of the staple diet of Kashmiris. It is usually cooked along with meat, fish, or vegetables. Often, nadur is a standalone dish too.
As the boat ride was ending, it was time to head back to hotel for a nice breakfast. The boatman, asked me if I would like to get some. The boatman was back in no time, with a bag full of girda—a sort of flat round bread—baked in a tandoor, a traditional clay oven. Unfortunately, lake water in Kashmir is getting heavily polluted with sewage and domestic waste from houses and houseboats. Kashmir needs an intensive and effective mechanism to handle waste from these neighborhoods. Otherwise, we risk losing these water bodies that form the soul of Srinagar.

Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “The LG has been conducting the inspection of drains in Delhi and issuing lengthy press releases to make it look like the work was being conducted under his supervision. It was because of the magnanimity of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal that the Delhi Government until now allowed the LG to visit these drains like a tourist.”

New Delhi (Agencies):
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s premier anti-corruption agency, is facing criticism for its inability to bring cases related to high-profile scams to their logical end because of delayed investigations.
Take for instance the two cases that the CBI has filed against former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the

The CBI has also failed to complete its investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away in June 2020 under mysterious circumstances.

TIMING OF PILOT’S PRESS CONFERENCE WASN’T APPROPRIATE, SAYS RANDHAWA
New Delhi: All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa told that he believes the timing of Pilot’s press conference was not appropriate, but said he would travel to Jaipur either on Monday or Tuesday to meet Gehlot & ask about the issue. “I must have met Pilot 10-15 times since I became AICC in-charge of Raj but he has not even once mentioned this issue to me,” said Randhawa. He said in the press conference that he had told the in-charge too but I can tell you nothing was discussed with me.” The AICC leader went on to say, Pilot has said he has written two letters. Wo letter bhi mangvayenge, CM se baat karenge”. In my view, it was not the right time … Firstly, he has not spoken to me about this issue. But there are big leaders. He could have spoken to them. Nevertheless, I will go and speak to both of them.”

Congress General
Secretary Jairam Ramesh said the Congress government in Rajasthan with Ashok
Gehlot as CM, has implemented a large number of schemes and taken many new initiatives that have impacted the people profoundly. While the Congress leadership praised Gehlot, the party did not clarify its stand on Pilot’s role.
Questions are being raised that just like the BJP high command takes a blunt stand, why can’t the Congress high command take decisions?
Today, Gehlot is fighting the battle of 2023 alone on his strength. In such a situ-
ation, merely issuing a statement will not justify the role of the high command. The high command should now take a blunt stand on the Gehlot-Pilot tussle. Once it has been decided that the 2023 elections will be fought under the lead-
ership of Gehlot, then what is this confusion? Will Rahul Gandhi be able to muster up the courage to speak bluntly to Pilot? On one hand, there are praises for Gehlot and on the other hand, there is silence on the statements of Pilot and

If the situation of infighting in the party continues like this, then the dream of repeating the Congress government in Rajasthan is not going to be fulfilled.

Dr C S F Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy, was born on 10 April 1755 in Germany. This is the second largest medical system used for disease treatment in the world. Homeopathy is an ideal system based on scientific and natural laws based on certain principles, which works on universal laws of healing the whole body instead of merely treating the symptoms of the disease. This method came to India in the 19th century and became popular. The simple translation of the word homeopathy means treating like with like, that is, whatever causes a disease can be cured by the same.
Dr Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy, was himself an allopathic physician, later his keen interest in chemistry and medicine provided the world with a simple, safe and harmless system. He was a successful writer, doctor and explorer.

As the world celebrates Homeopathic Day families are encouraged to explore the benefits of this natural and safe healing method for their overall health and well-being.
A homeopathy is a holistic approach to medicine that treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of a particular illness. It has been used for over 200 years and has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions, from allergies and digestive issues to anxiety and depression.
One of the key principles of homeopathy is "like cures," which means that a substance that can cause symptoms in a
