Sena will ‘bounce back’ from ‘cruel’ ECI move: Uddhav faction

First India Bureau
Mumbai: The Shiv Sena on Monday termed the Election Commission of In dia’s decision to freeze the party’s name and poll sym bol as a “bushfire” that can never be ex tinguished. It also promised to “bounce back” from the or der, which the Ud dhav Thackeray fac tion claimed was nothing short of “in justice”.
The ECI had, on Oc tober 08, frozen the party’s bow and arrow symbol as well as the use of its name ahead of the November 03 Andheri East Assem bly bypoll in Mumbai.
In an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Sa maana’, it said, “This (ECI decision) is the sin of Delhi. Dishon est persons carried out this dishonesty. But we would like to assure we will stand strong despite innumerable
catastrophes.”
The ECI took a “cru el” decision to “finish off the Shiv Sena founded by Bal Thack eray” because of the objections raised in front of it by the “trai tors” led by (Maha rashtra Chief Minis ter) Eknath Shinde, the editorial alleged.

He further said that in the last 25 years, whenever a party had faced a vertical split, the ECI had given simi lar verdicts of freezing the original symbol and name. However, it per mitted the use of the party name with some variation.
Speaking about the allegations of fake affi davits being submitted before the ECI, Fad navis, who holds Home Department portfolio said, “It is a cognizable offence and the police will follow their due procedures to probe the matter.”

‘Not afraid of case, will it fight alone’
Aurangabad (PTI):
Shiv Sena leader Chan drakant Khaire has said that he is not afraid of the case reg istered against him for allegedly making ob jectionable remarks about Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He also vowed to fight the charges alone.
First India Bureau Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday said a new election symbol for the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction could bring a “big revolution” in the coming days.
Raut was produced before special Preven tion of Money Launder ing Act (PMLA) court as his judicial custody in a money laundering case investigated by the En forcement Directorate (ED) expired on Monday.
Family members and supporters of Raut were present on the court premises when he was brought there. They greeted him and interacted with him be fore the proceedings of the court.
Responding to a ques
tion about the Election Commission of India’s interim order freezing the bow and arrow sym bol of Shiv Sena, Raut said, “the new symbol for Shiv Sena (Thack eray camp) could bring a big revolution for the party”.
This is not the first time when a party has faced such a situation, he said.
“It is not easy for the Eknath Shinde camp to usurp the name (Shiv Sena) and the bow and arrow symbol easily.
The rebel camp might not get it (the poll sym bol) so soon,”
said, adding
Speaking to reporters in Aurangabad after re turning from Mumbai on Sunday night, Khaire said, “I don’t know if any offence has been registered against me. But if the chief minister has broken the Shiv Sena organization, should we worship him? Bal Thackeray took efforts to build this organization and these are the returns being given to him.”
Based on a complaint lodged by district unit chief of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Rajen dra Janjal, a case has been registered against Khaire at Satara police station for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the chief minister.
Khaire, a former
Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituen cy, is a loyalist of Ud dhav Thackeray, who heads the party’s other faction.
“People from the Shinde faction criticize Uddhav Thackeray now. He is the one who dis tributed portfolios to them (in the previous government). Shiv sainiks are angry now,” he said.
“I am not afraid of an offence being registered against me and I will fight alone. What is the worst that can happen, I will spend Diwali in jail,” said Khaire.

MULAYAM SINGH: GRASSROOT LEADER WHO MAINTAINED RELATIONSHIPS GOING BEYOND PARTY POLITICS
KALRAJ MISHRA GOVERNOR, RAJASTHAN
The demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav is the end of an era of politics. He was a genuine person with a very kind heart. I believe this, understanding the warmth of a relationship, he was a rare person to take care of the relationship diligently.
In UP, when I was a minister in PWD, once during budget speech in House, a SP MLA spoke some rude words about me which were far from the truth. I too had resigned then for the sake of my reputation. I remember Mulayam ji called me immediately and said that I should not have resigned directly on this matter. He also reprimanded the MLA of his party in strong words. He publicly said that talking like this about Kalraj ji is against the dignity of a chaste person like him
I do not remember when I first met him, but from the early days of politics, I had a close relationship with him. Later on, this relation ship deepened and went on getting absorbed in deep meanings of love and re spect. We may have always been separate under the political parties, but the af fection and love and respect that he gave, can never be forgotten. I remember he also suffered a lot during the emergency and was put in jail. After the formation of Bharatiya Janata Party, the National Democratic Front of BJP and Lok Dal was formed in Uttar Pradesh. Its President was Mulayam Singh Yadav and I was the General Secre tary. We worked together on many levels. While in politics, I also felt closely that not only did he have a geographical and social un derstanding of Uttar Pradesh, but his political vision was also very broad. I also saw an attachment in his mind for the workers from the very beginning.
Even during elections, he used to interact with them every now and then and dur ing this discussion new av enues were always opened. I also constantly felt his deep attachment to nationalism.
Many times I used to jok ingly tell him that you should have been in our party, and he used to laugh. He did not say anything, but I know that on many levels his vision was related to the cultural concerns of the na tion and society.
There are very few grass roots leaders in politics at this time, and hence they are remembered even more in such times. He was a tru ly grassroots leader who connected with the masses.
Not everyone called him ‘Netaji’ for nothing, they be lieved he had amazing lead ership qualities and took everyone along. That is why everyone was also ready to work under his leadership.
Remember, when Mayawati ji was the Chief Minister in Uttar Pradesh, I used to be the Minister of Public Works Department there at that time. In Etawah, we got the buildings made by the Public Works Department.
In those days an All India Conference of the Sama jwadi Party was going to be held there. He had called me
and requested to provide those buildings to the peo ple coming to the confer ence and make some other minor arrangements. There was no question of not ac cepting his request. I per sonally went there and made arrangements imme diately after asking my principal secretary. I re member whenever he met, he used to mention it. Al though it was not such a big deal, but it was his personal ity that if anyone cooperat ed at some level, he would never forget it.
In Uttar Pradesh, when I was a minister in the Public Works Department, once during the budget speech in the House, a Samajwadi Party MLA spoke some rude words about me which were far from the truth. I
too had resigned then for the sake of my reputation.
I remember Mulayam Sin gh ji called me immediately and said that I should not have resigned directly on this matter. He also repri manded the MLA of his party in strong words. He publicly said that talking like this about Kalraj ji is against the dignity of a chaste person like him.
He was very much above party politics and for peo ple who were close to him, he would not think twice before doing anything, even if it was beyond the party line. There are many other such incidents with him in which I gave him some advice politically and he accepted it without thinking. Rather, at times he used to discuss with me,
MSY CHANGED UP’S POLITICAL CONTOUR
Yadav, who passed away at the age of 82, will always be remembered for his astute ness which changed the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh. The wrestler from Saifai, his village in Etawah, spearheaded the movement to bring back ward classes into the main stream of state politics in the Nineties. When the Ram Janmabhoomi move ment began to peak he took the BJP head-on and went to the extent of ordering police firing on kar sevaks gathered in Ayodhya in 1990 in which several were
killed. That single incident led to the gradual margin alisation of Congress and rise of the BJP in the Hindi heartland as caste and reli gious politics took root.

the chief minister of UP three times beginning in 1989 when Congress was voted out.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was a politician of the old school and maintained cor
dial relations with his politi cal rivals across the aisle.
Ironically, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati prob ably became the only excep tion to the rule. In 1991 Mu layam had helped Kanshi Ram win the Lok Sabha byelection from Etawah for the Dalit leader’s foray in na tional politics for a future OBC—Dalit—Muslim com bination. After Mulayam formed the Samajwadi Par ty in 1992, he joined hands with Kanshi Ram to success fully stop the BJP jugger naut in 1993. THERE ARE VERY FEW GRASSROOTS LEADERS IN POLITICS AT THIS TIME, AND HENCE THEY ARE REMEMBERED EVEN MORE IN SUCH TIMES. HE WAS A TRULY GRASSROOT LEADER WHO CONNECTED WITH THE MASSES. NOT EVERYONE CALLED MULAYAM ‘NETAJI’ FOR NOTHING, THEY BELIEVED HE HAD AMAZING LEADERSHIP QUALITIES AND TOOK EVERYONE ALONG
even when he had to make some big decisions under his own team. I remember that he never even forgot my birthday! Wherever I would have been, but he would not take rest until he found me on the phone and congratulated me. I wonder, where is the per son who maintains such relationships and under stands the dignity of rela tionships! I also accept that when he was the Chief Minister, whenever he was told any kind of work, he did it immediately and he accepted my opinion, my words even at such levels which no one can think of.
He was deeply interested in the development of vil lages and in the upliftment of the poor. Along with the expansion of basic facilities
in the villages, he was also closely engrossed with the traditional life there. Per sonally, his relations with the people were so deep that even if his party leaders joined any party later, they never broke ties with him. So many memories and an ecdotes of him are still flashing in my mind at this time. I believe that the inti macy and affinity that re mained with him is an in valuable asset of my life. His demise has left a void which can never be filled. His merging into infinity means going away of a per son who has followed the principles and dignity of relationships. His absence is a personal void that will never be filled.

Is ‘petty politics’ the new political ideology of Kejriwal?

In 2 recent incidents, AAP didn’t follow protocol attached to Prez
Sharat K Verma
New Delhi: Arvind Ke jriwal once staged a road dharna in front of Rail Bhawan in Lu tyens’ Delhi. He had been on a dharna in front of Rail Bhavan with his party leaders during the night in cold weather. Then he called himself an anarchist.
However, later his atti
tude changed after con testing elections, win ning and forming the government in Delhi. He had stopped calling himself an anarchist and started talking about the system of the constitution. Now again he has started a bid to create chaos and not only is he making state ments indiscriminately, at the same time he and
other leaders of her party have also started ignoring the Constitu tion and the traditions of democratic politics.
Recently there have been two incidents in which he and his party insulted the President by not following the pro tocol attached to the President. As per tradi tion, on October 2, on Gandhi Jayanti, the Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi have to be present and welcome the Presi dent. This time Kejriwal was absent from the program.
His Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia did arrive but
he also did not stop to welcome the President. When the Lieutenant Governor wrote a letter about this, Kejriwal did not feel the need to reply to the metter.
The second incident is from Chandigarh, where President Drau padi Murmu had ar rived to take part in the parade on the occasion of Air Force Day. The President was to be wel comed before the Air Force parade, for which Chief Minister Bhag
want Mann was invited from the Raj Bhavan. He also accepted the invita tion but he did not come to attend the ceremony. Instead he went to Guja rat to campaign for his party. On October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Kejriwal had gone to Gujarat for cam paigning. Moreover, the kind of language Kejri wal has used for the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and opposition parties is also no less objectionable.

War of words between TMC & BJP over clashes
Kolkata (PTI): Trina mool Congress and the opposition BJP were engaged in a verbal duel on Monday over clashes between two groups in KhidderporeMominpur area of Kol kata that left several people injured.
The saffron camp claimed that law and or der have worsened in West Bengal, drawing a sharp retort from the ruling TMC, which ac cused the BJP of trying to vitiate the atmos phere of the state.
BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar tried to visit the area on Monday but was stopped at Chingrigha ta area of east Kolkata and asked to return as prohibitory orders un der Section 144 Cr PC had been clamped in the area. He was later ar rested and released af ter a few hours. Police said that two groups clashed in the area on Sunday evening over some local issues.

“We will discuss with CM Shinde and finalize new symbols for submission to the EC,” Deepak Kesarkar, a spokesperson of the Shinde camp, said.
The Election Com mission on Saturday froze the Shiv Sena’s bow and arrow symbol amid a tussle between the two factions. The poll body had also asked the two factions to choose from among the symbols that are available and submit three options for their interim markers by 1 pm on Monday.
Uddhav moves ... of principles of natural justice and without granting any hearing to the parties and giving them an opportunity to lead evidence. The ECI, in its interim order, barred the two Shiv Sena factions led by Ud dhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from using the party name and its election symbol in the Andheri East assembly bypoll.
The order came af ter both groups sought to use the same name and symbol.
Thackeray’s peti tion, which has ar rayed the ECI and Ma
harashtra Chief Minis ter Eknath Shinde as parties, sought quash ing of the ECI order and, in the alternative, sought directions to consider and allot the symbol proposed by Thackeray without re stricting the choice of symbol from the list of free symbols notified by the commission.
The petition said in this case, without af fording an opportunity to be heard despite an application of the peti tioner requesting oral hearing, the ECI dis played undue haste and passed the order freezing the ‘Bow and Arrow’ symbol of the Shiv Sena led by Ud dhav Thackeray, which is intrinsically identi fied with the party, hav ing been used by it since its inception in 1966.
It is pertinent to note here that the said sym bol was developed, de signed and copyrighted by Late Balasaheb Thackeray, the plea said, claiming the freezing of the symbol is actuated by malice in law and is erroneous as the preliminary re ply filed by the peti tioner before ECI clear ly shows the petition there was not main tainable at the behest of Shinde.

“What kind of mind set is this? Somebody tell these BJP members that most of our oil comes from Muslim countries. Will you stop it,” he asked.
