etail inflation is not only going beyond the tolerance level of the common man but also the Reserve Bank of India which is happy when the inflation remains within the 2-6 percent range. Latest data showed that infla tion was back at 7 percent in Au gust, well beyond the RBI’s threshold level. The consumer food price index rose to 7.62 per cent. This upswing has come after its marginal decline to 6.71 percent in July. With this, infla tion has remained above the per missible limit for seven months in a row, something that should be worrying the RBI as it had projected inflation to fall to the 5 percent level in the April-June quarter of next financial year. With prices of several commod ities, besides food and fuel items, remaining high and persisting disruptions in the global supply chain, the 5 percent level seems beyond reach. The next meeting of the Monetary Policy Commit tee would dwell further on con taining inflation, including fur ther hike in interest rate.

New Delhi (PTI): FM Sitharaman sought to know from industry what is holding it back from investing in manufacturing, even though foreign investors show confidence in India. She said the govt is willing to engage with the industry and take policy ac tion. “This is the time for India… We cannot miss the bus,” she added. She said the government has brought in PLI scheme, cut tax rates to encourage the domestic industry to invest in manu facturing. “No policy can be end in itself.. It keeps evolving as we go on. That applies even to industries that have come in the sunrise sector for which we have given policy support through an incentive. “I would equally want to know from the Indian industry why is it that they are hesitant (to invest)…. We will do everything to get the industry come and invest here.. (but) I want to hear from India Inc what’s stopping you?,” she said.
The minister also said that Nutrient Based Policy (NBS) for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the Rabi season (Octo ber 2022 to March 2023) will be announced shortly.
