PMSPEAK FROM THE RED FORT MODI EXPRESSES CONCERN ON ‘POPULATION EXPLOSION’
Rajnath hints at ‘No First Use’ policy change amid tension with Pakistan Pokhran: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday underscored that India reserves the right to change its policy of ‘No First Use’, which has been the cornerstone of India’s nuclear weapons policy for decades. The government firmly stands by its ‘No First Use’ policy but “what happens in future will depend on the circumstances,” the minister said at Pokhran in Rajasthan, the site of two nuclear tests by India. “Pokhran is the area which witnessed Atalji (former prime minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee’s) firm resolve to make India a nuclear power and yet remain firmly committed to the doctrine of ‘No First Use’. It is true that till now, India has strictly adhered to the ‘No First Use’ policy.
In his over 90-minute speech from Red Fort on 73rd Independence Day, Modi touched the issue of “population explosion,” talked of triple talaq legislation, targeted Pakistan on terrorism and exhorted people to work with dedication to create a new India while noting that incremental progress was not enough to transform the country

Aditi Nagar Jaipur: After the Alwar sessions court’s verdict in Pehlu Khan Mob Lynching case on Wednesday, acquitting all six accused, now it appears that the Pehlu Khan case has returned to haunt the Gehlot Government in national media and political circles. But in an strategic and important development, Rajasthan’s all six BSP MLAs, have re-imposed their trust, faith and loyal-
ty in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. During the day, all BSP MLAs, under a Mayawati mandate, had called upon the chief minister to express their “concern” over the failure of the state government and judicial mechanism to provide a fair justice to the family members of Pehlu Khan. In a forty-five minute long meeting with BSP MLAs, Gehlot took pains to apprise them about the efforts of the state government and

with Gehlot, all BSP MLAs were visibly satisfied with the “progress” of the efforts made by the Ge-

chit to the Gehlot government, also publicly expressed their complete faith in the leadership of CM Ashok Gehlot. One defiant BSP Rajendra Gudha, who had recently charged Mayawati of taking bribe in allocation of an election ticket, had gone to the extent of saying that Mayawati does not understand Rajasthan, adding that they have complete faith in Gehlot. Meanwhile, CM Gehlot ordered formation of an SIT after holding meetings with senior police offcials of the state including ACS Home
Rajeeva Swarup, DGP Bhupendra Singh, ADG Crime BL Soni and other senior officials. The meeting, that lasted for several hours, resulted in the formation of a SIT under IPS Nitindeep Blaggan. The SIT has been directed to conduct a fresh probe into the matter. Moreover, CM Gehlot has also asked ACS Home Rajeeva Swarup to compile a detailed report on the flaws in the case and carelessness of the police officials. Swaroop will monitor the entire case and senior officials from the deparment will also be included in the probe.
The state government will also hold a “test” of the case to bring to fore any faults if any, in the investigation till now. The government wishes to weed out the flaws so that the case can be contested properly in the Higher Court. Congress General secretary Priyanka Gandhi has come out strongly in favour of the Gehlot government and tweeted commending the government’s move on bringing the AntiLynching law. Priyanka hoped that it would set a good example by acquiring justice for Pehlu Khan. Turn to P4
